  1. Thomas Sowell (former Marxist) Dismantles Leftist Ideology

At its best the Co-Operative movement is a good model as well. Sadly our Co- Op Bank here in Blighty has been beset by scandal. The farmers' Co- Op near us has a good shop , you can join as a member for just £1 share and then benefit from the savings. Only trouble is some stuff such as weedkiller that they do comes in huge drums, too much for small scale growing. I've had some bargains though.

Not sure 'greed' is universally applicable. John Lewis Partnership ( they own Waitrose amongst other things) for example. The workers own the company, hence the checkout lasses at our local Waitrose are all on something like £40K a year plus bonus on profits. It's a good model.
  3. What Powers the Nervous system? (Western Science)

Life is just too short bro!
  4. What Powers the Nervous system? (Western Science)

Sore point. We had a letter from the buyer of our house solicitors wanting a copy of the electrical installation certificate. Which we couldn't find and the electrician who did the job wasn't answering his 'phone or picking up messages. " No problem" says the solicitor " just give us £160 for an indemnity insurance policy for the electrics and that'll cover it." Which I do. Day after I took them the cash the electrician turns up on our doorstep with a copy of the certificate and his invoice for £25 for producing it. Which I pay. £185 sovs out of pocket but so well covered for electrical safety now that it seems almost a shame to move house!

Marxism's a busted flush. It never worked in practice cos it doesn't take human nature into account. The party apparatchiks all lived like Ottoman potentates whilst the poor bleddy workers had to queue up for bread.
  6. The David Icke Videocast: ISIS - made in America and Israel

He's getting whackier the older he gets.
  7. What Powers the Nervous system? (Western Science)

Back in school the physics guy attempted to enlighten me about electricity. He failed. I've no interest in or knowledge of how it works. Just as long as it does work and who to call if it doesn't is all the info that I've ever needed.
  8. Nature = Good

The DL was a technology fan when he was a lad according to that '7 Years in Tibet' dude. Most lads are at that age though.
  9. Ayn Rand on Israel and the Middle East

Yep, saw that online. Heck of a project to film I imagine, that was a huge book. I've been surprised how Rand pops up on forums now and again after all these years. On paper some of her stuff looks OK but in practice ,which we endured here to an extent under Thatcher; it's a recipe for further privileging the already privileged at the expense of those less well placed financially and societally. She lacked compassion IMO.
  10. Befriending Money

A man worked in a post office. His job was to process all mail that had illegible addresses. One day a letter came to his desk, addressed in a shaky handwriting to God. He thought, 'I better open this one and see what it's all about.' So he opened it and it read: 'Dear God, I am an 83 year old widow living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had a hundred pounds in it which was all the money I had until my next pension cheque. 'Next Sunday is Easter, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. 'I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me?' The postal worker was touched, and went around showing the letter to all the others. Each of them dug into his wallet and came up with a few pounds. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected £96, which they put into an envelope and sent over to her. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of the nice thing they had done. Easter came and went, and a few days later came another letter from the old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read: 'Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? 'Because of your generosity, I was able to fix a lovely dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day, and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. 'By the way, there was £4 missing. It was no doubt those thieving b*****s at the post office.'
  11. Ayn Rand on Israel and the Middle East

Ayn Rand's dead and buried along with her philosophy. She was one of Margaret Thatcher's favourite thinkers. Anyone else ever waded through ' Atlas Shrugged' ?

  13. Nature = Good

No disrespect intended, but calling nature a 'nurturing mother' is maybe taking anthropomorphism a step too far.
  14. Befriending Money

Useful stuff is money. Back when I had none times were a lot harder than they are now. Some things are cheaper nowadays but not many. Gods bless Amazon Partners for one example. Books can be had from those for one penny plus (reasonable) postage. White goods too. We've been looking at washing machines and tumble dryers, those are really cheap in relation to proportion of wages needed to buy them to what they once were.

Innuendo? Yes please. Make mine a large one.
  16. Upping Sticks

Yep, you'd need to be pretty hungry. Chips ( fries) do the trick for me. No climbing necessary.
  17. Ethical Hexing

What goes around comes around. Better to do good than ill IMO.

They do seem to gravtitate towards public spaces don't they? Leicester City Centre is choc a bloc with oddballs during the day. I was in a bookshop next to the Town Hall Square and heard some music. A bunch of born agains had put up a whole mobile stage and were putting on a concert cum service. Thing is Leicester has a majority Indian population most of whom are professional, educated middle class people. Some had taken umbrage at the preacher giy's haranguing anyone who wasn't a Christian , saying they were going to Hell. It was good fun. The Police turned up, then it turns out the born agains don't have a permit to be there. Then the pastor guy starts shouting about religious persecution at the cops He did anything he could so as to get arrested bar thumping a copper but the police could not be ersed with him. They took the stage and all the band instruments away in a police van and told the pastro he could have them back if he came to the station with the right attitude to collect same and asked nicely. It was a good half hour's free entertainment. We all gave the cops a round of applause.

There's a lad you'd cross the street to avoid. Odd times I travel on public transport I seem to act as a magnet to guys like that.
  21. Upping Sticks

I'll stick with the chicken. Much easier to 'catch'. Never eaten a barnacle, I expect you'd need a lot of them per serving to make a meal.
  22. Thought after Enlightenment

Deci, are you under the impression that I have posted on TTB under another identity before? I've only been GMP on here since I first joined and have never posted here under any other name. I trust clears up any misunderstanding.
  23. Nature = Good

Well if we left our garden to nature it wouldn't be a garden for long. Nature's just itself, there's neither good nor bad in nature apart from what we choose to ascribe. Weeds for example. Weeds can be a nuisance as far as the gardener is concerned and a 'bad' thing if left unchecked. But as far as the weed is concerned, it's just a plant going about its business.
