There's " QiGong Psychosis" ( so called) as well. My call is that it's not so much the paths as sends people psychotic or sick it's the fact that the paths attract some psychotic and sick people.

It's when we get sick of reading those evangelical fundamentalist Buddhist posts on TTB. Buddhists aren't like that hence my conclusion that those who post that sickening bilge aren't Buddhists at all.

Quite right too. Bald is the new black. -

"Wired not Tired?" New job might have something to do with it buddy. Big changes and fresh responsibilities can be unsettling until we get into the swing of things. Are you going to bed mentally exhausted but not physically tired? If so this probably sounds a bit trite but it really does work. Cycle to and from work if you can and if you can't do that then hit the gym, weights or other physical exercise for at least an hour after the working day. All good wishes to you for successful sleep again soon. -
Using Affirmations To Open Meridians ?
GrandmasterP replied to Sebastian's topic in General Discussion
+1 rainbowvein. Make one's whole life an 'affirmation'. Cracking idea. -
Not sure if this helps or not but in TV and movies if an actor can't cry to order they either yank out a nose hair of rub a smear of Vicks under each eye. Both of those techniques will induce tears.

Bleddy show offs are cows! Them and their 'extra' stomachs. Sheer indulgence IMO. -
What Do You Do Immediately After Sessions ?
GrandmasterP replied to Sebastian's topic in General Discussion
Before I retired ( YAY. )Monday through Friday I went to work after cultivating. Now I take the dogs for a walk. As far as 'warming down' from cultivation, with Baduanjin that's unnecessary as the last two moves in our method are specifically designed to effect 'warming down'. 7 = 'Offer an egg ( glaring)'. 8 = ' Revitalise Qi" -
Minor schools and inconsistent methods (from Zhong Lü Chuan Dao Ji)
GrandmasterP replied to alchemist's topic in Daoist Discussion
MH said "- BTW All paths lead to physical death. How long we wish to postpone this will determine which path we should follow." To which LaoZiDao replied - "- Actaully (sic) this is not true for Neidan, but I won't argue this point here." Possibly best NOT to argue that point LaoZiDao as you're in for a soupçon of disappointment down the pike. 100% of people die. Always and every ways. That buddy, you can take to the bank. Thing is with these Neidan boosters on here and elsewhere isn't so much them promoting their beliefs it's their 'triumphalist' " We are right, everyone else is wrong." inference. If Neidan floats anyone's boat then that's fine but it's not necessarily in the best tradition of TTB to be posting like a fundamentalist evangelist. In all fairness though their 'school' has only been going for 21-years which is the equivalent of two-minutes in the scheme of things. They're young and they're keen. Give their 'school' another few centuries and, if it survives; it'll no doubt mellow. Look at Dr J and his outstanding interview on here. http://thetaobums.com/topic/35153-jerry-alan-johnson-ttbs-interview-answers/ Jerry is the 'go to' lad for Taoist Alchemy in a lineage that has been around for ages yet he never ever 'disses' anyone else. He just gets on with the job, teaching and publishing his excellent books. These Russian coves could learn a lot about marketing their schtick effectively from Dr J. -
There are counties in some US states that are bigger than England. So, no... Not to the same extent, we don't. Hence the comment. That 'university' was up and running until relatively recently and is now online according to the source of the quote I posted. Those tours they ran sounded like some sort of fun. No wonder they were popular.

Is new age and spiritual stuff irrelevant to the tao cultivator?
GrandmasterP replied to woodcarver's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
It's too big n baggy to categorise as 'one thing' is New Age IMO. Best to discuss facets of it as those present. There's some good stuff, some totally whacky stuff and all sorts in between. Also what 'I' consider totally whacky might well work for someone else. -

But the Romantics tended to end up as reactionaries. Look at Wordsworth for one example. We're just a bunch of old hippies on here. Even the younger Bums are Old Hippies at heart. -
What the hell is the abyss anyways?

Now you are talking MH. Tulips... Love 'em. Queen of the Night for preference. We've a drift of those every late spring. Fabulous behind daffodils in years they coincide but usually the daffs go over before the tulips flower. -
I always reckoned that Emo Philips kinda copied Tiny Tim's schtick in a way. He had a bit of a cult following in some unis over here back in the day. Emo tried a UK come back tour a while back and tanked.

Story of my life. Always in the cheap seats. -
Is it this guy... 1871-1963 Quote....... University of Science and Philosophy In 1949, Russell leased American millionaire James Dooleys vacant mansion Swannanoa, Nelson County, Virginia, shown adjacent, and therein formed what seems to have been a half sex cult half philosophy retreat for men. Writer A.O. Pollard (1983), in retrospect, describes the school as such: [3] During this period, the retreat took in a series of feminine acolytes who, to help support the institute, gave tours of the mansion and grounds. It became a right-of-passage for the region's young men to view the lasses, as the diaphanous gowns they wore made quite evident that the mountain top location was often a chilly clime.

That dude Russell in the OP seemed to be down on celibacy. What were his dates? If early, he could be an encoded homophobe or even a closeted gay man. There was a lot of that about in the bad old days. IMO celibacy isn't 'abnormal' it's just unusual and unnecessary in adults, if it's unwanted.
