Those bleddy jet fighter things whizz over us every now and again and frighten the hens. " There goes our taxes." says I to Mrs GMP. Grrrrrrrrr

They do say that freemasonry did so well in Scotland because the Calvinistic state church was down on ritual and the mystical. Seems that many people crave ritual and mystery hence the masons sorta 'scratched an itch' that the official church could not.

Might be a good idea for all our relatively rich countries to club together and maybe build a super treatment and research facility over there in Sierra Leone. Couldn't hurt. Only time we hear about Ebola over here is when there's a potential threat to 'us' but the poor folks out there run the risk of catching it any time. If some money was thrown at Ebola long term then maybe someone out there, given the resources; come up with a cure or at least some more-effective treatment.

The oldest recorded British joke dates back to the 10th Century and reveals the bawdy face of the Anglo-Saxons -- Q: "What hangs at a man's thigh and wants to poke the hole that it's often poked before?" A: " A key." -

There's no system involving people that doesn't suffer from human error and no matter how secure these isolation hospitals are over here chances are, at some stage; someone will SNAFU and then the genie is out of the bottle. It would be cheaper and safer to have an isolation facility over there in Africa.

Maybe it's just me but if I was some coastal Neanderthal dude and the menu choice was between a plump juicy non threatening codfish and some aggressive armored spider with pinchy claws then Mr Cod would win every time.

Odds are that anyone with Ebola is pretty much fecked anyhoo. 90% mortality apparently. Those are not good odds. Sounds harsh I know but keep 'em over there in Africa would be my preference. Is Donald Trump the golf course guy?

Mount Saint Bernard Abbey is just up the road from us. http://www.mountsaintbernard.org/ Those are Strict Cistercians ( Trappists). It's a popular drive out for an afternoon, they have a tea shop and really nice gardens, very peaceful. A jollier crowd of guys you could not hope to meet. One old monk does paintings to order and did one from a photo of our dogs, pretty darn good it is too and it was all I could do to make a donation towards the cost. He wasn't for accepting anything. Another monk does really nice pottery. Factor out the shonky dogma and I reckon that for those who are suited to it that's not a bad way to live. -
7: Enlightenment is not easy. It takes effort to attain nothingness. And then what do you have? Bugger all.

Say whatever one likes about Roman Catholics but they have some transcendentally beautiful music.... -

The battery has finally expired on my electric bike. Six years last month I've had the bike from new and that battery has been charged every week at least once sometimes twice. I've done some miles on it too. £330 for a new battery so have decided to splurge and have the bike pro-serviced as well as a new battery. Pedalling apart, electric biking must be the cheapest form of power-assisted transport around.

Yep, the repair guy threw in a free valet. You should have seen the state of it when I took it in. It's muddy again now.

It does seem a bit daft to import someone known to have Ebola into the USA. Better to treat them in Africa rather than adding to the risk of spreading the disease further. Advice here so far is 'low to no risk to the UK '. No travel warnings against visiting the affected areas so far either. They are extra-screening air passengers arriving into UK airports from those parts.

+1 For example we had a lad join our bowling team last Spring and it has been said that.... " This new player is showing great potential." We'll know for sure come the end of the season if that potential was fulfilled or not. -
It's a great thread title anyhoo. " 3 Reasons"....Says it all... 1. Enlightenment sucks. 2. Enlightenment does not suck. 3. Enlightenment neither sucks nor does not suck..

What's a reasonable price for a retreat or a festival do you think?
GrandmasterP posted a topic in General Discussion
Glastonbury Festival costs an arm and a leg to attend and once you get there the concession stands charge the earth. A ticket to visit the Shaolin Temple and take in one of their shows ( three a day in the Chinese tourist season) costs the equivalent of half a day's average industrial wage for a family ticket of Mom, Dad and usually one kid. Extra for the ( optional) cable car ride. The concession stands and gift shops there are pretty reasonable. I've seen some really expensive ( to me anyhoo) 'spiritual type' gigs advertised here on TTB. Other more experienced posters have mentioned some gigs costing two grand. What do you think is a fair and reasonable charge for a retreat or a festival? I'm defining a retreat as something with a few leaders and no 'acts' ( performers to watch) and a festival as something where there is entertainment provided be it Shaolin acrobatic monks or bands or whatever. 'Spiritual' themed only... Not Glasto type gigs. -

As a union rep, many the meeting with management have I pleasantly passed in imagining our 'esteemed leaders' in various circles of Dante's Inferno.
