  1. I have asked to take the month off as a mod

Have a great summer buddy. Enjoy.
  2. For UK posters.Tesco do an own brand jar of Stevia that is ace for baking and really inexpensive too. In the sugar aisle it is, at our Tesco. Big plastic jar with a red lid. Mrs GMP uses it all the time.
  3. That seems a bit drastic. Just locking it would do and also save the posts. Deleting all of the thread though? Nah.
  4. Wearing Hats and Qigong

Can anyone post piccies of the various Taoist hats and what each hat-style signifies?
  5. martial artists in the real world?

About a Taoist hermitage out in Idaho and a guy who lives there who went to improve his martial arts and talks about where he moved on from wanting to do that and why. Anyone know if the hermitage is still operating? It looks to be a pretty remote spot and there only looked to be three people involved.
  6. What is the longest you've ever meditated?

    Sure sounds like fun though.
  7. The Sage not acting for reward

Still better than...... Traylor- Hooker ( really)
  8. What made you laugh

"Ive actually become a Daoist missionary. Which means I stay home and mind my own goddamned business." ( Mark Saltveit: Daoist Stand-up comedian. Posts on TTB infrequently).
  9. Alan Sailer over on Brad Warner's HardcoreZen forum posted this just this evening.... "I dont think that it is impossible to teach a Tibetan monk modern cosmology or that its impossible for an American to reach the depth of the meditative aspects (whatever that means)."
  10. What made you laugh

    This
  11. What is the longest you've ever meditated?

No, that's Apech ( the bi-locating cat guy) over there standing in the corner of Ken's meditation room. Apech likes check on us all every now and then. Conscientious he is.
  12. Tiantai Shamatha-Vipashyana

Swanson is amazing. Does that guy never take a holiday? Incredible amount of work he must have put into this latest translation project plus he gives comparisons to other translators takes on various sections of the text and sometimes more than one 'reading' of his own.
  13. Teach for free? You can all go.....

One of the quickest ways to learn something really well is knowing that you have to teach it to others.
  14. Teach for free? You can all go.....

That last sentence resonates. Back when I was nursing and nurse tutors were in short supply if a new procedure came in the saying went... " See one. Do one. Teach one."
  15. What is the longest you've ever meditated?

Well if sleeping counts too then I get in 8-hours+ of meditation a night regular.
  16. The Sage not acting for reward

It would only really be a last name if say a Miss Christ married a Mr Consciousness and they decided to become double-barrelled for a surname. "Ladies and gentlemen will you welcome onto the dancefloor as they lead us in the first dance the new Mr & Mrs.... Darren and Lisa Christ- Consciousness."
  17. Teach for free? You can all go.....

Even in Greek those questions would come across as abrupt and potentially rude buddy. See that PM that I sent to you earlier.. Nice edit. Much better.
  18. The Sage not acting for reward

"Awake" maybe? Once you attach some religious dude's name to anything then that brings all sorts of baggage. 'Christ Consciousness' is a cult in one its manifestations ( Bernard Perona et al).
  19. Teach for free? You can all go.....

" The labourer is worthy of her hire." ( Christian Bible: 1 Timothy. Chapter 5: verse 18). Charging a reasonable tuition fee to cover time, costs and expenses is not unreasonable. It is unreasonable for students who can pay not to offer to pay and the teacher shouldn't really have to ask. We charge £5 for 15-minutes for sittings at our centre 1-2-1 or £20 for 50-minutes. Meetings and circles ( lessons) are £3 for members £4 for non members. Half day courses £15 full day £25 ( tea and biccies only) or £30 (buffet lunch included). Healing is free but we have a donation box and people are very generous. Some shyster on here was advertising a one day gig for $450 per ticket. That's beyond obscene.
  20. Death, Dying and Next---- Thoughts & Speculations

Fair comment CT I bow to your knowledge. I've take the 'bardo as purgatory' line there. Tibetan Book of the Dead... "In the final stage, if the soul has not attained liberation, it encounters seven great angry light beings. If the soul realizes these lights stem from the soul's own mind and self, it will be liberated. If not, it will descend to the third bardo." If summerland ( insert name of choice) is a bardo in the sense you describe bardo then that's cool. I'll edit the original now.
  21. What can feminism do for men?

This is really good... Thich Nhat Hanh on relationships. Nothing new but outstandingly well delivered. http://tnhaudio.org/2013/09/01/creating-loving-relationships/
  22. What's the easiest way to live in the present?

Don't dwell on the past or stress about the future. Just be in the eternal now. HTH
  23. Sufism/Islam and entheogens

Cheers buddy. Hope you didn't mind me saying. No way was I having a pop at you.
  24. Got Any Fiction Recommendations?

Bump... Anything by Phil Rickman. http://www.philrickman.co.uk/pages/home.html Especially his Merrily Watkins series. Cracking good reads for folks with 'our' sort of interests.
