THE AESTHETE When I sit, I sitting, tend to sit a seat with sense so fine that I can feel my sit-soul blend insensibly with seat's design. Seeking no support the while it assesses stools for style, leaving what the structure means for blind behinds of Philistines. ( Christian Morgenstern)

Yep talk to them by all means. Check out the airing cupboard under some towels too. Some connection with towels or a towelling dressing gown. Sure t'be significant. ( Or not) :-)

Clairvoyance vs Immediate Knowledge
GrandmasterP replied to deci belle's topic in General Discussion
There's an almost delicious irony here. Thesis-Anthithesis From " Buddhists" already! ROFL -
Yep agreed. But if that idea was happy and this current idea is miserable then the prior state trumps the latter. It's all illusion so why not at least accept that and enjoy it for what it is? Love is ineffable but a tangible product of healthy relationships. Some of our patented- system and religious merchant chums make a nice living out of inventing dis- ease and then selling a fictive 'cure' to the person they've made feel 'ill'.

Hello all, looking for help with energy medicine gone wrong
GrandmasterP replied to kudos100's topic in Welcome
QiGong doesn't suit everybody. If you feel worse after cultivating then stop playing that cultivation. TaiChi might suit you or a maybe sitting cultivation. Thing is to keep looking and you'll find something for sure. Rule of thumb with all cultivation. If it makes you feel worse at the end than you did when you started. Don't do it. -
The drawback with balls is that you can't do any mudras with your hands full.

OK Dougal. These toy cows on the table are small toy cows. Small toy cows. Those cows through the window are real cows. Big real cows. But far away. :-)

You're doing it wrong bro. Stop. If it's adversely affecting your wellbeing and your every day relationships then whatever it is you are cultivating; it is a bad thing. Suspect but can't know that you are cultivating alone without a teacher. That can be a recipe for disaster. Find a trusted skilled listener and talk it through with her or him. Doesn't have to be a cultivator on 'our' paths just someone who can listen and lend perspective. Check out Mindfulness gigs local to you ( there will be one somewhere close for sure). Cultivation is about wholeness and enjoying not about suffering. Anyone says different is sick. Don't get sick. Hope that helps.

All good stuff and all free. There are people not a million miles away who repackage this stuff and then sell it on for silly money as their own 'course'. That 'sounds' material is gold. Someone we know sells a three- hour seminar on the sounds and charges £400 a ticket. Cheeky sod!

Psychological Issues and Spiritual Practices: Shouldn't Practices Trump Therapy/Medication?
GrandmasterP replied to Satya's topic in General Discussion
Cultivation is one thing. Therapy is another. Anyone with underlying mental health issues can become worse by embarking on cultivation. Every reputable teacher and all cultivation books come with that disclaimer at the beginning. Alternative medicine and medical quackery can be killers. Complementary approaches approved by a qualified medical professional are fine but nobody who is sick and undergoing or in need of professional medical treatment should embark on any cultivation or meditation practice at all unless and until they get the 'all clear' from their Doc.- 33 replies

Clairvoyance vs Immediate Knowledge
GrandmasterP replied to deci belle's topic in General Discussion
Everybody has all the clairs. We are eternal spirits inhabiting a temporary flesh and bones body. The three main 'clairs' are Voyance Sentience Audience. Some have Alience too. Most folks get those laughed and argued out of them as they grow up and develop along with their egos. We've all seen babies laughing and 'talking' to people in the room that nobody else can 'see'. Seems to me on this topic is that some posters want to use it as a vehicle to promote religious Buddhism and bash us over the head with Buddhist 'scriptures' . Strange innit that the guy himself Mr Buddha never wrote any of those? That whole sutra n scriptures schtick all came afterwards from guys seeking to cash in on the brand. Then there's the " have a pop at mediums" faction. Any and every opportunity to denigrate the 'other' is a golden chance for some to take a swipe at anyone who does still exercise a clair or two into adulthood. Thing is nobody will ever be talked or argued into believing anything. Anybody who pays silly money out to a jobbing medium or psychic or related spiritual nostrum merchant - is wasting money, time and energy as a rule. The world is full of shysters and most of us can spot those a mile off but some cannot. Hence the dime store 'two grand for the programme' quacks around Taoism or 'Septic Peg' the £100 a sitting Psychic mystic flogging her nonsense to the gullible online and via Mind Body n Spirit media. It's a business and businesspeople only care about their business. Anyone who is interested in touching base with their own clairs or investigating these areas whlst keeping a hand on their wallet is best advised doing it through one of the established, ethically based spiritualist centres or churches. Or check out a Shaman or similar who is connected to some viable, insured, regulated and 'known' temple , abbey or organization. Beware the shysters who, as someone else noted on here tend to have that R in a circle 'trademark' attached to their product. They're also very big on advertising as they need to keep attracting new customers due to the numbers or customers that they lose via disappointment and realisation that what is on sale is BS. -

Farewell Remington Travel Alarm Clock
GrandmasterP replied to GrandmasterP's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I see from the box that Seth Thomas was a division of International Time the Scotland based Timex watch people. I had one of their watches for years. It stopped working so I sent it up to the Scottish factory for repair. They sent me a brand new watch plus a cheque for my postage costs. That old watch had to be fifteen years or more old. The new one they sent me lasted a good long time too. Last I heard they had gone out of business. I wasn't surprised but a was a bit sad. -
Who ya gonna call? http://www.snu.org.uk/community/churches/churches.html Most SNU churches will have someone who can give advice and help. There's sure to be one near you. This is the sorta stuff we 'do'. Someone connected with SNU is working to a set of ethical precepts, they aint doing it for a living and they won't be out to fleece you. Pop along to your local centre or email them if they have a website. Some of the smaller churches are a bit staid and elderly but the big town and city places are vibrant. Said it before elsewhere on this topic, usually it's simply someone from spirit side trying to attract your attention. Main thing is don't stress or worry, it's the bar stewards on this side of life who can cause us real harm not our chums from the other side. 99.9% of spirit chums are benevolent in intention if sometimes a bit clumsy as to how they go about trying to communicate. The minuscule fraction of non benevolent spirit chums are no worse than internet trolls. Just press 'ignore' and they'll pod off because they feed on worry and attention. Remove the food and they'll go elsewhere. Hope that helps.

So many patented nostrums out there now too. Everyone and his uncle designing some quackery to sell on as the next big thing. Dime store diplomas in this and that albeit they cost a lot more than a dime for the useless 'training'. It's a business and a lucrative one at that. " Back to Basics" is a good call BKA. Without sure foundations no building can stand up securely. -

It was entered in that comedy clip contest. Not sure what won. It is an obviously staged performance ( 'to' the camera angles) but who's to say if it was deliberately made as a comedy sketch of simply submitted as a funny video in hopes of winning a prize? All media is made, and sometimes linked to; for a purpose. Advertising for one such. -
Good call. Hair is a nuisance. I run the razor over mine every day and get away with bi monthly barber trips for the tricky hard to reach side bits too close to my ears for me to chance without myopically lopping off a lobe. Four pounds plus a pound tip for the barber who updates me on all the village gossip. £5 well spent IMO.

Zen rocks. This is my fave zennist site... http://sweepingzen.com/about-sweeping-zen/ A goldmine of info and has cost me a small fortune in books ordered after reading the reviews. Best Zen autobio for me remains David Chadwick's ' Thank you and OK' about his time training to be a Zen priest in Japan. He's the guy who wrote 'Crooked Cucumber' the S.Suzuki biography, that's good too. 'Shozan' Jack Haubner's ' Zen Confidential: Confessions of a Wayward Monk' is a hoot too and quite telling insofar as the scandals that are still emerging from inside western Zen in the USA. What strikes me about the Zen we have in the west is just how different it became and how quickly from the Japanese original. Then, the western version went back to Japan and changed Japanese Zen. Hence Zen in Japan now - which was chiefly a funeral and death registration series of family owned businesses based in 'parish' temples- is seen as 'cool' by Japanese young people. In the past it was looked at as a very staid and 'establishment' sort of activity chiefly for old people and mourners. Soto for me with a soupçon of Pure Land. Most of those pioneer Vietnam War era western Zennists were Tao oriented so Tao has definitely influenced the contemporary stuff.

It's the multiple camera angles and staged performance to pre-located cameras that gave this away. It's one of the entries submitted for last year's Indian TV Comedy clip awards. http://www.indiantelevision.org.in/headlines/y2k13/sep/sep25.php -
