There is great merit to supporting our teachers, and yes with money. This allows them to maintain an economic level so they can in turn focus on teaching even more people the wonderful arts that help us live higher quality lives. If we want to perpetuate the energetic arts, then support the masters who teach them.

    bubbles - spot on!

Sifu Garry - your contributions are of very high quality and have helped make this thread something special. If the discussion occasionally drifts to SYG to make a point, then I consider that a valuable addition that broadens our perspective... and is always welcome. Thanks for your continued support of this thread. Lloyd

As for purity of heart, that one is a bit more challenging and I agree with the post above of alles. that we have to look within ourselves. Or per the lyrics of the Grateful Dead song "Ripple", There is a road, no simple highway / Between the dawn and the dark of night / And if you go no one may follow / That path is for your steps alone.

Riding - Great point(s) on purity. As for me I go with your suggestion of "just practice, just observe". That would seem to be purity of practice. When you finish your 100 days I am hoping you post your observations on the experience.

Ah....good information Sifu Garry about "taking yourself to the highest level". The practice of FP becomes a vehicle. While the practice takes discipline and dedication, that's the easy part. Having a pure mind / heart....that's my real challenge.
  7. Daoist Alchemy: Jerry A. Johnson

Just ordered. My thought is when a good book on qigong / neigong comes out on the market, buy it. Several times I told myself to wait and buy later, then the book either went out of print or became in short supply and *really* expensive. JAJ is one of the very best and so I'm grabbing this book. Can't wait to get it in the mail.

Sifu Garry - that's a way cool teaser of a video on the Flying Phoenix Heavenly Sword form. It's a nice reminder for all regarding the interrelationship or the Doo family arts. Thanks for posting!

Steve - thanks for posting the analysis by your friend on the energetic qualities of the 90-second standing meditations. I can actually concur with every one, except I can't glean the right and left aspects. It's pretty clear White Crane Spreads Wings and Dragon Emerges from Cave serve to open the heart area. Also with the Lift Earth to Heaven exercise, one can feel the opening of the energetic path from the lower torso energetic areas to the head. Since the movements of Dragon and Phoenix Play are perfectly symmetrical, it's interesting your friend Eric would say he saw it clearing the nervous system especially on the left....could that have been what it was doing for you in particular on that day?

Sifu Terry - I jumped over to the thread on Tai Cheng. Like wow....and not in a good way. Thanks for the public service message.

taiji_cat - that's really good results from your very first session. I am going to guess you have internal arts experience, as that may account for the powerful energy after your first practice. Actually, FP heals *both* the body and the psyche simultaneously. Keep us posted with your progress!
  12. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Steve - yes, FP definitely has a calming effect on emotion. And so I agree that it lessens emotional charge. In fact I find Flying Phoenix meditations (especially seated) are especially useful for mitigating stress. For anyone who practices meditation, if you meditate after doing FP you will find your mind is unusually calm and tranquil.

Shiva - I agree with Steve that your story of healing the guy's knee was quite inspiring. Your background in meditation probably contributed to a fast ramp up of Flying Phoenix energy, which in turn allowed you to heal another person. With diligent practice, yes, you will see very significant results after two year. Also, your growth in FP energy may go in leaps, i.e., not just a gradual, steady increase. You may practice at seemingly the same level for months, but then all of a sudden you start to practice one day and then you notice something special happens. Again, as Sifu says, the FP energy is cumulative. Keep up the good practicing and keep us posted as to progress!

Anything JAJ writes is top quality. I have four of his medical qigong books now and will be buying this one. To to OP...thanks for posting.

Steve - yes, what you described is an fairly accurate description of the state of being I experienced this morning. Your deep experience in TM is really outstanding in that it helps validate some of these experiences....thanks for your comments. Transcendental Consciousness is a pretty good name for it. ;-) The FP I was doing when I had this experience was 70 50 20 10 which is one of my favorites. What I think we can conclude based on your comments is Flying Phoenix can be a vehicle, just as TM is a vehicle, that can transport us to higher states of being. Agree, this is exciting stuff!
  16. Do you practice at midnight?

I practice qigong at midnight quite often, since I usually work 13 hours per day. That said, what I can considering adding (when possible) is a practice at 12 noon also. When not traveling on business I work from my home office I am thinking of doing a qigong practice rather than taking the usual 45 minutes to an hour for lunch break. Both of those times (noon and midnight) are when our world changes from yin-to-yang or yang-to-yin, and are powerful times to do a practice or mediation.

OK, as promised, here's an interesting FP observation, which happened for the first time just this morning. I did a morning practice including an advanced seated form. During this form, time seemed to compress, or perhaps I should say warp. I can honestly say I have never practiced FP where I simply had no measure of time. I was fully aware and "lucid", however, my conception of time during this seated form simply dissipated. I honestly lost any cognition of how fast I was moving my hands during the form.....could not tell if I was moving more slowly than normal, at the same speed as normal or faster than normal. I was practicing in silence, so there was no external audio measure of time, and quite frankly everything outside of the practice of the form itself faded into nothingness, so that all that existed was the meditation of the FP form itself. During this state of being while doing the form, I had the awareness that the only way I would get a handle on the passage of time would be to finish the form and look at the clock, to see how long I had been doing it. To my surprise, it turns out 25 minutes had passed while doing the form....so I had done it relatively quickly. Normally this from takes me 40 to 45 minutes to complete. I share this with the board only as an observation. FP can take one to supernormal states of reality, and I was fortunate to have the experience just described this morning. Good practicing, Lloyd

Eugene - let's just say we both have an opinion on Osho. My next few posts will be on....Flying Phoenix.
  19. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

To each his own in terms of authors one chooses to read. For me, knowing Osho used spirituality for manipulation, worldly power and personal gain is a turn off. As the Bible says in the book of Mathew, "By their fruit ye shall know them." There are so many others who have written words to live by, and actually live their lives by those same words.

Riding - regarding Don Juan Matus, I believe it's been established that his learning in sorcery was not in the tradition of the Yaqui. He was taught his craft independently. Similar to you and I practice qigong, though it is not in any American/European tradition. As far as FP allowing you to keep up with your grandson....that's good news because I'll have my first grand daughter come September. ;-). Also I am delighted to hear updates from your 100 day practice. As you probably know I did one of those about 18 months ago and it was very trying, but also awesome and extremely healing. I'm considering starting another 100 consecutive day FP journey, and our posts motivate me. And finally, I wish I shared your experience of mundane dreams. Without going into details, mine are too much on the other end of the spectrum and I have had to deploy some techniques to protect my dream state peace. Again, please keep us posted on your 100 days. Lloyd

Eugene - If you like Osho then I suggest you continue reading more on Taoism and Zen, as both practices provide a means to peace through stillness. Osho was a gifted writer/speaker, however his personal life gives me pause. Also, Osho was very critical of Gandhi, and if you look at the lives of the two and what they contributed to humanity, well, there is no comparison. Still, there is much to be gleaned from Osho. That said, I have learned much from CC. Along my path towards peace and tranquility, as I mentioned above in my earlier post I have encountered some "negative energies" along the way, and if this happens to you I can promise Don Juan's analogies to becoming a warrior become very appropriate. That said, I respect your path and always enjoy your posts. Lloyd

Sifu - regarding lucid dreaming I have always been hesitant because I am not sure what I may encounter. I have had to deal with enough "negative energies" while in an awake state (or while in meditation) and I'm not sure how I would handle them if encountered in a lucid dream state. Can you please shed a little light on this? Perhaps dealing with these negative energies goes with the territory, but I would like to understand this before consideration of proceeding. I have CC's book on this, but haven't yet read it. As a result of this thread discussion that will be next on my list. Thanks in advance for any comments you can share.

Sifu - If you find more info on the benefits of group practice I'm hoping you will share with board. Also, a nationwide series of seminars sounds great... Looking forward to hearing more about when the time is right!

For the FP practitioners: about a week ago I made a couple posts about Flying Phoenix keeping me awake when I practiced late at night. This turned out NOT to be the case. I went to see my acupuncture doctor this weekend, and turns out he diagnosed that I had developed hot liver energy that rose into my head from stress. And that's what was keeping me awake. After only one acupuncture treatment the problem basically went away. So I have practiced FP the last two nights, then went to bed and slept soundly. Just wanted to clarify that. Good practicing..... Lloyd

Sifu Terry - thanks for sharing your own experience in seeing the blue glow of FP. Actually, I saw the blue light three nights in a row. The first time it was so bright it actually grabbed my attention....made me turn my head to look at it. The second night it was faint, and had I not been looking for it I may not have seen it. The third night it was fairly bright again, though I did not make it a point to sit and stare at it. I went on with my practice. And so yes, this was seeing it in the physiological sense, not the "intuitive" sense. It was quite beautiful, actually. I will also confirm your point about "right living".... this is something I have tried very hard to do, i.e., there are certain parts of my behavior I have tried to clean up. So based on your experience, Sifu Terry, I have to believe my attempt to improve my behavior may have been a contributing factor. As for your recommendation to practice in a group, that sounds good. Group practice is something I have not had the pleasure of experiencing. That said, I feel someday I will get my chance. ;-) OK, time to stop typing and go practice! Lloyd Edited for grammar.
