  1. The Brutish Brain

Well, sounds quite logical. The fuel/building material determines the performance of the machine so to speak ... How do you explain the different camera work in todays music videos and movies? This is a stereotypical example of that different way of perception. Older movies are perceived as very boring (less action = less pleasure) by the MTV generation! What about the different brain types they are referring to (old - modified old - new brain)? I can't believe that these changes are only due to the dopamine levels of the food!
  2. What's good for seasonal allergies?

Well, I can't find my little booklet about the system at the moment ... I have just moved. The system comes from the Buddhist tradtion. It's basically a medical qigong form. There is no visualization involved. The basic idea is that the human body has 36 different organs (hair, teeth, skin ...). Each organ releases a different scent (depending on the current condition of your body). A wonderful scent is said to be a side effect after some years of practice. The form is extremly simple. The effect is based on the indirect massage of different points along the meridians (at least according to my little booklet; the author admits only to guess as the exact impact is not known (publically)). There are three different forms. Form I to remove "bad" qi (practiced for at least 3 months). Form II to gather "good" qi and form III which is not taught openly. Form I is said to suffice to attain and maintain a healthy body. By the way, it looks not very "qigonglike" but extremely stupid to practice : Xiang Gong
  3. What's good for seasonal allergies?

I think it's quite the opposite (and I actually heard the opposite). My experience is: the older I get the lesser my allergies. I had also some good experience in practising Fragrant Qi Gong. It reduces my allergy symptoms quite well. But that's probably true for must Qi Gong Systems. There is also a German teacher advertising its positive effects on hay fever: Duft Qi Gong Gegen Heuschnupfen
  4. Moon light therapy article

I have always been fascinated by the moon. Interesting article!
  5. I have the same problem. I'm not able to log in.
  6. Big Forum Upgrade

Now it looks much better! The proportions are better and I think that the white background fits much better!
  7. The Orbit & Cold

I have experienced that doing the orbit in winter (especially when it's very cold) intensifies the feeling of energy tremendously. That might be due to the fact that the blood vessels are much better trained in winter, because of the change of temperatures (inside vs. outside) - the chi follows the blood ... or is there more to it on an energetic level (kidneys/jing/water/winter)? Any ideas?

    Lycka till!
  9. The Orbit & Cold

Found something interesting about the effect of cold on the immune system: whole body cold therapy
  10. Religion quiz

You fit in with: Spiritualism Your ideals are mostly spiritual, but in an individualistic way. While spirituality is very important in your life, organized religion itself may not be for you. It is best for you to seek these things on your own terms. 50% spiritual. 60% reason-oriented.
  11. Sex, Orgasm, Relationship

I have found a very interesting page Reuniting: Healing with Sexual Relationships. The whole page is very interesting, but the general concept can be found in the science section and the video section (I haven't read the book). I really like the connections made to science and research - even though I don't agree that orgasm is the only or main culprit (from my point of view it's more the inability to balance and store huge amounts of chi / jing / hormones, probably the wrong "tools", the lack of exercise, an untrained nervous system, the fixation on orgasm in our society, bad food, negative emotions ...). When reading those pages a lot of things brought up by M. Chia, Eric S. Yudelove, Dr. Lin, Michael C. Frost, M. Winn and others make more sense. Additional material (with a more taoist view on orgasm) can be found on M. Chia's home page and at the IPN home page (in German). Read and discuss !
  12. Hello

Go for Yudelove's book. It seems like Chia's practices, but it is more! I have learned the Orbit by using every free minute to feel the warm current for some years. Yudelove's stuff rocks! I'm using it to ground my practice at the moment. It`s astonishing!
  13. Taoist Yoga: Week 4

Hair Breathing becomes easier to grasp from week to week (the principles are always the same: part of the eye, hair, finger, yin/yang organ, collection point, aura). The asymmetric Standing Chi Kung Exercises are nice - I'm going to change the sides every day to keep the balance. All the sexual chi kung stuff is very subtle right now - compared to the first book with the perineum power.

Jedenfalls ein sehr origineller "typisch deutscher" Name, Affenbrot! [Anyway a very fancy "typical German" name, Affenbrot!]
  15. Taoist Yoga: Week 3

The quest goes on ... The Standing Exercise feels a little bit weird. I have never thought of putting the hands on the head (at least not in the context of taoist meditation). The shoulders are still not yet very relaxed! The week's Sexual Kung Fu Exercise is interesting. Closing the pharynx with the root of the tongue reminds me of "Pressing and Curling the Tongue" in Yudelove's first book. All the exercises for the tongue and eyes seem to activate a lot of stagnant chi (heart and liver). What are the alchemical ingredients of this exercise? Deep belly breathing (chi), the orbit (or connection of ren mai and du mai; tongue on wind/fire/water point), a sound (cf. the Six Healing Sounds) to relax the 3rd pump combined with the closure and compression (condensed chi) of the tongue (heart) and first gate (pineal gland). Well, practice will tell!
  16. Taoist Yoga: Week 3

Putting the hands on top of the head while doing some Standing Chi Kung is very good to relax the shoulders! The Hair Breathing Exercises produce a lot of saliva. Breath through the different areas and pull the energy into the mouth and relax. You will be astonished how much saliva that produces! I never got such an extreme effect with the Swallowing Saliva Exercise. Be careful with the combination of the two versions of the Sexual Kung Fu Exercise - especially if you're are very sensitive to energy! Try both versions for some time, then you can go over to combine both versions (it's not in the book, but I tried it nevertheless; the combination seemed more interesting to me). Do some rounds of the Healing Sounds of the respective element before the Shen Exercise. It improves the exercise (even though the Healing Sounds are a part of the Shen Exercise).
  17. Taoist Yoga: Week 2

Doing the Standing Chi Kung exercises against a wall has really helped me to release the tension in my neck. I have been doing the exercise for half an hour today (without a wall) - a quite relaxing experience. The "Darth Vader" variant of breathing is fun!
  18. Learning Chinese

The "Birkenbihl-Approach to Language Learning" is my preferred way of learning languages right now. It takes much more effort and time in the beginning, but I think it's worth it - and it's much more fun if you learn on your own! The problem might be that you need help of a native speaker sometimes to produce the correct pseudo-translation.
  19. Taoist Yoga: Week 2

The Shen Exercise gets more and more relaxing, the more I practice. It really seems to be the next step after the Six Healing Sounds. Same effect, but much deeper. I'm far from mastering these exercises, but listening to my own instructions really helps me to get used to them. The breathing exercise becomes more subtle with some practice (kind of like doing the Six Healing sounds subvocally).
  20. Help with my daily practices

Doing the Inner Smile, Orbit and Deer Exercise in one session is a really good idea, but be careful not to use perineum power too late? You might have a problem to fall asleep afterwards - not if you're able to store the chi perfectly, especially in the kidneys (a trick for everyone with sleeping problems). But most people can't do that correctly! The thing with the creation cycle is only a personal favorite of me. I also experiment with it when smiling into the eyes (the corners of the eyes, the eyelids, the white of the eyes, the pupils and the irises; just an idea I got when doing Yudelove's stuff). I'm interested in any experience with it!
  21. Help with my daily practices

I can only speak of my own experience. I have been doing only the Inner Smile and the Orbit for some years regularly without any other practices. I have changed that routine only recently. This set of practices was at least enough to open the orbit, so that I can feel the chi in the orbit (but the Inner Smile takes care of the Shensters and my focus was first on the Inner Smile and then on the Orbit), but it really took a lot of time. Comparing this routine with my new routine (doing all the basic stuff plus some advanced stuff), I would say that doing the Inner Smile, the Orbit, the Healing Sounds and some Taoist Self-Massage Rejuvenation is the much more balanced and successful choice. The practices seem to benefit from each other. It's a basic package that fits very good together. So, I start doing some breathing and the Inner Smile when I wake up and go over to the Orbit and finish with a massage. The breathing takes care of the first treasure (Chi), the Inner Smile and Orbit are both Shen practices and the massage takes care of the body or Jing. If you massage also the fingers, you're doing the Six Healing Sounds indirectly (whether usual order or Creative Cycle). This doesn't take more than 30-40 minutes. It can even be done in a much shorter time (around 20-25 minutes). With some practice you become really fast with the Inner Smile, if you like. If you tend to fall asleep when lying in bed, use a tape/mp3 to guide you (helps to keep your focus/concentration at the beginning; isn't a problem anymore with some practice) or just get up after a short smiling and breathing practice (just to say hello to your organs - if you don't like the idea of the Shensters) and sit down on a chair or go into a standing position (really good to wake up). So, doing the orbit in the morning costs you only around 30 (or less) minutes - plus the eleven minutes for the Lower Triangle Meditation. Doing the Healing Sounds before going to bed takes again not more than 15-20 minutes - and they are really good to get rid of stress, toxins, heat, bad emotions ... I would recommend to do both practices and not substitute one with another - even though you don't have to do it at the same time (at least in my opinion; the Inner Smile is a good kick starter )! Are 45-50 minutes a day to much time for a daily routine? I don't think so. I think it's really worth it!
  22. Taoist Yoga week 1

  23. Taoist Yoga week 1

You are right. It doesn't feel very natural at the beginning (it feels better with time - even though not really natural yet; my Tai Chi Chuan teacher showed me the same exercise), but is a good means to open the pumps and to relax the back. It really improves your standing posture (when doing it without a wall)! Well, anatomically it's rubbish (Yudelove's intention might have been to make us guys to think of their penis as a muscle for motivation ). I think the point of this exercise is awareness and the ability to seal / move chi (you don't need muscles for that). The solution can be found in the Sexual Kung Fu section of WEEK FIVE. There is a connection between pineal gland and tip of the penis / clitoris. By sealing the first gate you're beginning the first step of learning the inner sight by transforming the treasures jing and chi into shen (with the help of smiling energy).
  24. Taoist Yoga week 1

Hair Breathing feels really similar to a good and really relaxed round of the Microcosmic Orbit - you only add some chi through the hairs. The Standing Exercises (How to Stand: The Three Pumps) against a wall have shown how stiff my neck is. That's why I do most of the exercises standing against a wall. My emphasis also for the next weeks - to open and relax the 3rd pump. I still have some problems to imagine the aura around the body (Shen Exercise). I'm even thinking of including the toes (to connect the upper and lower part of the body better), but it's probably only a question of practice. The Sexual Kung Fu part of WEEK ONE seems to be quite promising ... In my edition of the book (German translation) one is supposed to walk around for at least 15 minutes after the Hair Breathing Exercise. I think that's a translation error? Fifteen seconds sound more reasonable to me. The idea with the self-made tape/mp3 proved to be successful.
