Question about spirituality and scientific testing
seekeroftruth replied to seekeroftruth's topic in General Discussion
Lol, the Randi show doesn't involve lots of randy people, Teddy. But that remark made my day.... Anyway, James Randi says that anyone who can come under scientific testing and prove that they can perform some paranormal ability, then he'll give them 1 million dollars. No one has won the challenge. EDIT: Small mistake corrected -
Great idea, but I won't be back in NYC till the 19th cause of winter break. Bummer....

I guess it's sort of what like Stig was talking about. Maybe you could offer retreats just to offset the cost like a lot of buddhist monasteries... -
You can watch all the episode online. I did it and it's not illegal...I hope...

There is a little bit of shaking in KAP, but it's a very small part of the system. I wouldn't really call KAP a "shaking practice", per se. It's just that you shake a little to loosen up.

Cool, I might check him out sometime in January/February. Right now I'm busy enough with finals and KAP.

Avatar was one of my guilty pleasures... Only realized the connection to spirituality and the elements when Santiago said so. According to Santiago, the movements correspond well to the attitudes of the elements. Like when they're "earthbending", the movements are very grounded, rooted, etc. Wow, I can watch anime and convince myself that I'm practicing

I was half-joking, but I really hope you're right and I'm wrong....

You might know about this already, but IMNSHO, the best (read: my favorite) book on insight meditation is daniel ingram's book: interactivebuddha.com -
I went to Catholic school for twelve years...even though my parents brought me up Hindu (though it was never anything strict). My conclusion from those twelve years is that Catholicism (and probably most Christianity) is rather irrational. In the end, all of the beliefs are based on faith. There is no proof, no evidence. Thinking about it, most people's religion is like this. There are plenty of Buddhist, Taoists, Hindus, etc. who don't try to experience what is written in scriptures, just take it at face value and believe it, despite how ridiculous it is. Even people who have energetic experience can have crazy beliefs. Wow, this is turning into a rant against religion. Basically, what I'm trying to get at is that going for experience, rather than for settling for intellectual belief is what you need. ...but actually getting that experience...that's a whole different ballgame

I'm wondering on paper here, but do the hands even matter that much? In the end, are all spontaneous qigong/neigung practices pretty much the same? This is WAY over my head, but I'm just thinking.

I don't know if you know the Kunlun posture, but is the position in the book similar to the one used in Kunlun? Just curious.....

Respect for Taoist oral & lineage traditions

This reminds me of a song I once heard: -
Just curious, but does NYC student mean you go to college, or does it mean you're a student of Taoism?

My Problem: Way too much time on the Tao Bums, not enough time practicing. I have a funny feeling, I'm not the only one with the problem.
