Winter Q and A with Chinese Doctor! My Gift to TaoBums for Christmas!
ShenLung replied to Eternal_Student's topic in Daoist Discussion
When i'm doing kiatsu, I stick to the main paths, and feel my way along - generally, just trusting that the qi knows what it is doing. I've seen plenty of diagrams, but a lot of them look a bit 'iffy', so I cannot trust them to get into any sort of detailed fine tuning. Can you recomend a good source for meridian charts that can help with finer work .. say clearing of one problem without risking creating another? -
Somewhere around 1160-70 ish the tea plant began to be cultivated in Japan. A particular sect began incorporating tea in their meditative practices intended to promote spontaneous enlightenment. Chan do began to permeate the culture, and eventually even persons who were not pursuing this path incorporated the tea ceremony as a significant part of their lives. Tea is good, and good tea is excellent! I have one elixir that incorporates equal parts of fresh tea leaves, ma huang, and yarrow flowers, powdered, then mixed with hot water in a jar, then sealed tightly to prevent the vapors from escaping. After a few minutes, the lid may be removed, and the infusing drunk: this thins the blood, speeds the thoughts and actions, and enhances strength. Useful for athletes and warriors .. well, not athletes so much anymore; they call it 'doping' Perhaps just a few drops of peppermint oil then, to calm the nerves and settle the stomach? (edit, wretched spelling errors)

This thread has become rather taxing to follow for the last few days ... nothing really usefull or interesting being said. I'm going for a drink. Anyone else want anything? coffe, tea, poison?

The heavenly realms are no fun - there is nothing to do there The hell realms are no fun - there is nothing that can be done there The middle realm is fun. Plenty to see, plenty to do. and mankind has made skittles! learn to keep the middle realm from becoming too much like the hells or the fun will be spoiled for all.

In my opinion, any meal that is prepared with love and consumed with appreciation is beneficial. Mindful eating, that is taking time with each bite, slowly and thouroughly chewing and thinking on the food can enhance it's effectiveness. Meals take longer, but portions do not need to be great. Each mouthfull becomes a meditation as one follows the path that the food took on it's way to the table. Bite into an orange, and one can taste the sunshine, feel the breeze, and hear the buzzing of the insects that filled the orchard as the flower grew, was pollinated, and the fruit began to form. My experience: I was once obsessed with the nutritional value of food, and wanted to find out exactly what foods I should eat, and in what proportions in order to gain the optimal delivery of nutrients, with the minimal amount of waste. An associate asked me why I was doing this, and I said, "I want to be able to avoid going to the bathroom as much as possible." If that seems absurd to you, you aren't alone, because she then asked "Why go to such trouble? When you excrete, it is just dung, and dung forms soil, which plants need to grow." I immediantly replied, "yes, but when I do this, I feel less than divine." Eventually, I began to make do with just sunshine and water. I did this for twenty nine days, with no loss of body mass or weakness (I actually felt more energetic) Healing abilities were phenomonal, and insights came fast and powerfully. At one point, I percieved the entirety of creation as one equation attempting to solve itself ... and despite the apparent complexity, it was delightfully simple. I stopped at 29 days because the thirty day mark holds a certain significance for me, and I was already beginning to experience strong egoist urges. Also, I observed that although I was not consuming in the usual way, I was draining the life out of every plant that I stayed in contact with for any amount of time. I lost three golden cypress and one juniper bonsai during that time. Nowadays, I smoke, drink, and eat burgers when I want to. Being a living god was an interesting experience, but I don't think that I am ready for that kind of responsibility. Hmm. I usually delete a few lines at this point before posting, but seeing as I'm completely clear minded at this moment, I'll just post as it is.

I have in my posession a stick That has the most curious virtue; For anyone who is struck with it Will attain enlightenment. Sadly, there is a restriction: It will only perform this miracle upon one who seeks understanding; For everyone else, it is just a stick. When properly used, it is a great help to others but does nothing for myself Improperly employed it is abusive; beware of crazy men with sticks! For as long as I've held it I have never felt it's touch perhaps I do not want enlightenment Just to be lit up a bit BONK!

I can't claim to be the super-genius behind all of this idea. The principle is demonstrated here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzmHGmAqMJc and an example of a coil under construction here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k_4uzsTU2s not exactly the way I envision the final product, but it should still work. My particular wrinkle is driving the rotor (shaft) with the flow of the water that was going to be passing through the coils anyway.

Enough to overcome the resistance of the turbine and it's bearing plate (got to have the plate, otherwise the thing will shake itself apart) I suspect that my current gravity tank for my auxillary water supply wouldn't generate enough pressure, but most residential water supplies would have more than enough. The induction set up takes rpms, but not so much torque. (edit) checked out the link ... yep, and it's been going along for a Loooong time. My brothers and I were playing around with drone aircraft back in the 70's. I like developing the tech skills from the ground up ... it's amazing all of the stuff we use everyday, but can't duplicate from our own knowledge.

Looks like Obomber is going to use today's shooting to create a constitutional crisis

Beyond that, I'd have to speculate, and it's hard to sift through the motivations of seriously disturbed/disturbing persons. Destabilisation seems to be one goal, but the purpose is obscured; conspiricy theories abound. Order always arises from chaos, but the exact order may not be what is envisioned by those who gleefully go about kicking over applecarts. -

It is not ok, by any standard of wisdom or law; The US had a history of avoiding foreign entanglements at one time, and only entered in to help when it was apparent that it was absolutely neccessary. It is justified in the minds of those engaging in this insanity by the intellectually false but often repeated saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". Nonsense. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy, and possibly mine, too. Reasoning people all over the world are looking at the US foreign policy with great concern; we seem to be schizophrenic, or at least the leadership seems to be. -

In my book, it is not ok, judging from this excerpt: Once you have armed a man, it is difficult to remove the weapons. Knowledge, once shared, is impossible to remove. Providing aid brings temporary gratitude, but long term resentment. Should the aid be withdrawn, you will have succeeded in turning ambivalence to hatred. Never support a faction in the hopes of gaining an ally. Secure a formal alliance first, and then you may provide aid in accordance with your agreements. Feed a dog or a man , and you will find it difficult to be rid of either. Ensure support at home before making new friends. Only children welcome a surprise puppy. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to choose your allies carefully. It is often the wisest policy not to meddle. ... and so on and so forth. -
How would a virtuous person act in this situation?
ShenLung replied to Subtle's topic in General Discussion
Bake some cookies. When the scent of hemp is strong, head on over, knock him up knock on the door, and explain that you overdid the recipie, and wound up with more than you can eat yourself, shame to waste, ect ... would the neighbor like some? This gives you an opportunity to observe, and politely explore what this person's situation and mindset are, without a confrontation. The banging noise can come up in a conversation without IT and the disruption being the focus of the conversation. I don't know what the sound is, could be excercise on the heavy bag or something. Perhaps an encounter with someone who is working on their inner self may be helpful to this person, more helpful than landlady conflicts, or police involvement. If not, there is still always plan B. -

Ah, what marvels might we now behold, if only we were to able to restrain our endless lusting for the unobtainable ... brings to mind this history channel bit I'm not so sure about the little green men, but high technology in the past isn't too strange to contemplate. There are still paleolithic people running around, some barely contacted, or maybe not at all. (sorry, had to go there .. Joe started it! ) -
Stocking up on meditations like stocking up on arsenal

Good analogies ... I like to walk by and stir the pot a little, and see what comes up, and I can think of at least one member that will take a sniff and say "needs more horse stance!". Heat it up, cool it down ... When it all settles out, there might be something usefull to skim off of the top. Hopefully energetic, but not too explosive. -
I don't see how it could be net energy positive; someone has to establish the water pressure in the first place .. this device just lets you use that water pressure to heat the water. If your power goes out, and you still have running water, you still have hot water, even if you don't have a gas hook-up.

I would assume (and Sometimes a lot) that if the spirit guide or astral presence was once a living teacher, or one who taught the living teachers, that it might still be considered a lineage, of sorts. I can think of a half dozen ways off of the top of my head to catch a newspaper on fire 'mysteriously', at least one readily available at your local (stage) magic shop, and the rest ... come up with a couple good effects, and eventually someone in the local magic circle can pass those on to you The qi healing stuff might well be real; it's kind of like love: I have some experience with it, but can't really explain how it works to my own satisfaction.

Aww, man ... AJ can really throw a wet blanket on a party, can't he? Fortunately for us non-elites, the crowd that wants to rule the world invariably act from selfish desires, and each and every one of the boogers wants to be the head honcho. They may pull together for a bit, but eventually they will go after each other like cuttlefish. Bad for us, but worse for them. I'm going to shift from wondering about what the Administration is going to do regarding the latest mass murder, and contemplate what we non-power-crazed folks can get out of this. Right now, thousands of parents are becoming more actively involved with their children. They are treasuring those kids, thinking about how to best protect them; in some cases, that means pulling them out of the public indoctrination centers, if they can. Not all of them will continue, I believe a lot will eventually drift back into complacency, but the effect of the kiddos that experience a change in their life's trajectory may have profound consequences in the years to come. I think that is something worth encouraging. -
I was expecting something different, too ... like maybe something like this: I think of a spiritual lineage as being different from a direct lineage in that a direct lineage is knowledge passed down from one person to another, like father to son, in trades, or master to apprentice. Spiritual lineage is knowledge passed down from teachers on the astral planes ... perhaps because they do not exist in the physical world, and whatever knowledge was once in a direct lineage is still not being passed on, or something. The only astral teacher i've encountered never taught me anything immediately useful, though. Or maybe it only works when in the astral, I dunno. The lessons on how to use a shepherd's staff as a practical weapon were kinda neat.

Normal Breathing vs. Reverse Breathing

I've seen several books for sale that contain less usefull information than this site .. good link -
Well, I'm still slogging ahead with the book work, three more pages yesterday (a sample of my margin scribbling is in member contributed articles) But I've been sidetracked by an invention that wants to get out into the world. I've already got so many things that I'm not doing, I figure I can afford to outsource this manifestation, if anyone wants it: a self-powered water heater. the simple explainantion for how this device operates is this: the kinetic energy provided by the water flowing through the device provides the power necessary to heat it as it flows through. No external power source required. This starts with your water supply flowing into a 1/2" intake, passing through a turbine, then on into a copper coil. The turbine rotates a shaft which descends through the coil. This shaft bears rows of strong rare earth magnets running down the length, alternating between N and S poles. The rows also alternate polarity as they go around the shaft (six rows should do the trick), with the entire length of the shaft being about 2' long. The terminus of the shaft is supported by a bearing surface to hold it steady in the center of the coil, and permit free movement. Distance between the magnets and the coil should be no less than 1/4", but actual optimal distance will be determined by the strength of the magnets you can get your hands on. When the hot water tap is turned on, the water flows, rotates the shaft, and the eddy currents generated by passing the magnetic lines of force through the conductor will heat the coil, transfer heat to the water, and presto - hot water through induction. The poles arranged in alternating order prevent emf from traveling through the conductor, so no electric shocks. Flow rate determines the degree of induction, and hence how hot the water will get. Some experimentation will be necessary to fine tune this device. The coil should be tight, but loose enough to get a powder coat of silica between the bights, which should then be thermally fused in a kiln suitable for ceramic work. If more surface area is needed, doubling the coil should do the trick, just leave enough space for insulation. Happy tinkering, and if it works, send us pickys, after you patent it

Nice job! I usually just disasemble the thing and reasemble it solved, and no great insights bestowed

I believe in Skittles ... I mean, a world that can create something so wonderful can't be all that bad, right? I don't know if offering a handfull of yummy goodness would stop a raging psychotic in his tracks, but it sure elevates my mood! Taste the rainbow ... BE the rainbow

Some time ago, I was reading a small town newspaper, and came across a section labeled: Police blotter. This section detailed all of the police calls that had been made for the entire week .. it amounted to a little less than two pages, and consisted of a lot of bicycle thefts, some shoplifting, minor vandalism, a couple of drunk and disorderly conduct calls, and one or two domestic violence calls. The thought struck me then that a large city could not possibly do this, the blotter would take up the entire paper! The news media in many major cities do not even report on all of the homicides, only the more sensational ones. Now it seems by this observation that there is a corelation between population density and crime, particularly violent crime. Other factors are present, of course: education, economics, morality, and governance, for example. These factors aside, is there a definable point where there are simply too many persons living in too great of proxemity to each other? Could each person be analogous to a small bit of Uranium, emitting their equivelent to neutrons, colliding with others, creating a chain reaction? In a reactor, to decrease the intensity of the chain reaction, fuel rods are withdrawn or shielded from each other ... can that analogy be applied to population density? I did some basic research on land mass and population ... not precise, but enough to provide a general sense of how the world might look, if every person were to be redistributed to be as far away from another as possible. Here is what I found: At 50 million square miles of land mass (really a little over 57, but I rounded it down for the sake of convenience, also accounting for the highest peaks, densest jungles and deepest desert regions) and roughly 7 billion persons, I wound up with an area of 200000 square feet per person, 1/4 of that area being land readily suitable for farming. The nearest neighbor would be over 500 feet away - well out of rock-throwing range. This view does not look like overpopulation to me. There is a capacity for food production where currently 12 million square miles or so are utilized for agriculture, but this capacity can be expanded to support 14 billion persons without much difficulty. Market forces can and will dictate such expansion, and even at double the world's current population, each individual is still "owner" of 100000 square feet of their own space ... this still sounds like a lot. So .. populations can be redistributed, there is plenty of space to do this. Unfortunately, the social planners seem to want greater and greater centralization of populations. How can these plans bring about greater peace? Decentralization appears to be a better plan.
