  1. Which books sit on your nightstand?

The thing that really bothers Stringer is that among the last railwayman's belongings, was a beheaded torso, found stuffed behind the toilet in the railwayman's loo. What is really bothersome to Stringer is that Inspector Weatherhill, however, is never seen without a bowling ball carrier in his possession. It seems to be a bit lighter than a bowling ball, however.... approximately 15 pounds.
  2. Which books sit on your nightstand?

LOL. Did you finally buy a nightstand?
  3. Which books sit on your nightstand?

As does The Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C. Douglas.
  4. Origin and return

And yet if we rest as we are without getting down to the I Am, we will continually manifest insane conditions over and over. The I Am I speak of is not of the Ego - it is the burning coal within all of us that came from the same fire.
  5. I just looked at the light cone images. Isn't that exactly what a chakra is supposed to look like, with the two opposing cones? Talk about microcosm / macrocosm...
  6. I hope your energy flowed nicely yesterday - and that maybe a little energy flowed into the red bucket outside!
  7. When I read this, Taomeow, I immediately thought of the measurements of the Hadron Collider determining that when the atoms collide, they distribute themselves into the Past, Present, and Future. Like a time fold. I envision it as a piece of paper; on one side is written Past, (ancestors), on the other side is written Future (babies and future babies), and then if you turn the page sideways so that you are only looking at the very thin edge, this is the present.
  8. \ I'm speaking of the Beginner's Mind from the Zen perspective. The mind that does not sit on knowledge of objects, or a relative point of reference, place, time, or judgmental opinion. It is as open as the air. And yes, I agree - the closer we get to the Source within, we find that the knowledge is there for the Underlying Truths to issue forth, because it is not being impeded by our points of view and fixed ideas, which keep the Underlying Truths (which are within all of us) from flowing outward. But in order to tap into this flow, this mysterious knowledge which Knows and Waits for exactly the right moment to issue forth - we must be as free as possible from arrogance, pride, judgment, prejudice, fixed ideas of anything. What a balancing act we must perform. In one sense, we cannot deny that initially it appears that we are living in a world of solids, and we must step aside and let a car pass so that we will not be hit. On the other hand, we must also understand that neither us nor the car are solid at all; and it is through this understanding of the illusion of what we call the physical world that we are given the opportunity to see through it and get down to the Truth that lies within us and is universal, Logos. That which underlies everything. The Knowledge is mysterious and nothing that has been taught or read. It is tapped into by the clear mind.

I'm also doing a re-read on the Castaneda series. I read the first book as a teenager and thought it was just about drugs. Then I read them again about 15 years ago, after studying metaphysics for some years, and was greatly surprised by the underlying metaphysics contained within. This series is one of those that the higher your eyes are, the more you see. Just like the TTC and many other metaphysical works. So they're a quick 'sitting in the doctor's office' read for me now - but each and every time you read the later books, you see something different because your 'eyes' are looking from a higher plane. There are just some books that need to be read multiple times. In my experience, a partial list would be The Impersonal Life, by Anonymous (later determined to be Joseph Benner) Some Christian mention can be easily sidestepped, but it's the best book I've ever seen to bring one to the I Am consciousness. Advanced Course in Yogi Philosophy and Oriental Occultism, by Yogi Ramacharaka Anything by Manley Hall will show you new things at different levels. Also, Blavatsky.
  10. So if I'm reading you correctly, this sense of 'Knowledge' is better replaced with the Beginners' Mind, if the metaphor holds true.
  11. If people would only realize that money is nothing more than stuck energy, perhaps they wouldn't be so focused on it. Better the energy flow, IMO.
  12. Which books sit on your nightstand?

Interesting! I have wondered about this sometimes too! In the Avatamsaka Sutra, there is much mention of zillions of what they refer to as Buddha-lands. It was very hard to envision (and keep reading) until I thought that maybe this included all sentient beings, including insects. After all, we're all part of The Life Force. I think of ants, and the incredible feats they are able to do compared to their size, and how they all work toward one goal. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the entire world could do this? The Sutra refers to specific good qualities as Adornments - and certainly the ants have this adornment of mutual cooperation. And dogs - with their capacity for unconditional love (with some exclusions, obviously, but I think they seem to have loyalty as an Adornment unless they have been abused or contorted.) I love the glimpse that we're getting of each other through our books.
  13. Which books sit on your nightstand?

I'm waiting for one I just ordered: 'Time, Space & Knowledge: A New Vision of Reality', (Nyingma Psychology Series). Steve and I were having a discussion about space and the nature of matter, and he said he'd thumbed through this book a while back and it looked very good. If Steve says it looked good, I'll bet it's good...
  14. I was going to mention that didn't Jesus cast a demonic entity into a pig? But from rereading your post, Iain, it doesn't seem that there is a relationship there. Thank you so much for your information, and I apologize for my ignorance.
  15. Which books sit on your nightstand?

And I'll bet the last special effect was his death and some sort of swirly, colorful journey, because he finally realized he wanted peace of heart more than anything else? Just guessing...
  16. Which books sit on your nightstand?

Was that the recent movie with Jake Gyllenhall? That was quite a movie.
  17. No - his body language is iffy. Plus, that looks like a nasty nosebleed he had before the ceremony.
  18. But lucky girl. She has finally found unconditional love.
  19. Origin and return

Wow, Steve. Just, Wow! I love your talk of space. It's actually rather comforting knowing that I am more of a ghost than a solid, walking around in this illusion of solidity. Like a thin cloud floating through the sky. Just a speck of awareness holding it all together.... Or, as a very wise Tao Bum has in his signature paragraph: "When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love. And between these two, my life turns."
  20. Origin and return

I don't believe anybody can accuse you of being ineloquent, Mr. H. No, I don't see it as an attainment or transcendence either. It has been elimination that has brought me closer to the Pure. And another proof is when we become capable of manipulating energy, IMO. As in healings. Personally, I think the Something Else you refer to is our Pure Self trying to get us back. I agree - once felt, never forgotten; it becomes an Awareness, like a type of re-chemicalization of the brain, that stays with us from moment to moment. Whether this pure energy is felt in meditation, or in the form of Kundalini energy that comes up through your legs from the ground - you are right. We are never the same. As I write this, I am seeing an analogy between our 'return to the Pure' (or however we wish to tag it) and some religious philosophies where there has been a 'falling from heaven' type of scenario and the opportunity for redemption, as in an archangel sense.
  21. Origin and return

The will for sobriety turned into the will for enlightenment.
  22. Origin and return

    Does this include your innards?
  23. I was sitting in an airport a couple days ago, and next to me was seated a young woman with a brand new infant in a carrier on her lap. The baby was maybe a week old, the eyes had not yet focused (no 10,000 things differentiated). But the first two things this child is going to see when its eyes come into focus will be the back of her hand holding an I-Phone. She was paying no attention to the child whatsoever and seemingly texting every friend she had. Seems to me the child would be better off if the first thing she saw was the mother's smiling face interacting with her. Are we raising a new brand of child because of the parents' interaction with their gadgets?
  24. Point well taken, Dawei. But are you sure they will let it pass within milliseconds, or will that anger become part of their post-natal conditioning?
