  1. The scandal of me sitting in full lotus padmasana

Not being a Buddhist, I am unaware of what someone sitting four hours in full lotus would do for a third party. Does anyone understand his motivation? Is it pure? Does he somehow merge with the spirit of the one who is paying? And if so, is that supposed to result in further connection to something? Do you think his motivation is commercial or is it a more sagely motivation? I didn't interact much with him when he was here before, so I have no feel for his integrity. But on the other hand...I've experienced too many woo woo things to rule anything out.
  2. Strangely enough, that was quite interesting. Okay, now I know what hip-cocking is. Thank you. I do the very same thing every night. I cock my hips, only didn't know that was what I was doing. I actually feel a wonderful stretch which leaves me kind of tingly when I do that. So to do the pillow thing would actually rob me of a little fun.
  3. Any chance you can elaborate on this?
  4. No. Your wife loves to goad you because you nightly build a bunting board in your marital bed. Do we need to have a bedding ceremony? Someone call a Dothraki.....
  5. I have one of these too. They don't work. My memory is still shit.
  6. Do What Thou Wilt

I think it's the quality of the thinking that makes the difference. I do still think, of course - but it seems to be much more uncluttered, more focused. And capable of being turned off to enjoy the moment. the interesting thing about losing one's memory, as I am, is that it doesn't really affect the immediate moment. If one can mellow their thoughts, utilizing the brain as needed, it can actually be pulled off pretty well. As my mom (who has Alzheimers) got worse, her sense of panic about forgetting things was palpable. But if one is trained in meditation and can stay in the moment, the loss of memory is easier coped with and less discombobulating. A big difference, as I see it. The only down side, is that I probably wrote this same exact thing 4 posts ago.
  7. Do What Thou Wilt

I think he's using the 'stop thinking' thing as the reward for years of meditation, where one has control over how much chatter is allowed. And a different type of chatter it is. As I see it, the only time wu-wei is effective is if ego is totally and temporarily removed, where you can see with real clarity, where your own conditioning doesn't come into play in how you see. The going and the being. This sounds so much like quantum physics to me. The particle (being) and the wave (going).
  8. What made YOU laugh today/tonight ?

That was actually adorable. Painful, but adorable.
  9. Do What Thou Wilt

What a beautiful allusion to self realization.

O Little Steve of Baltimore, How very well you write. Above the din of argument You're seldom in a fight. And in the darkness shineth Your everlasting light The holiday festivities Are at your house tonight. And if you're not agreeable I don't know what we'll do, We'll have to find another place That also has a loo.

  14. That's actually rather profound.
  15. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

"It is a thing to be felt rather than to be intellectually grasped - and yet the Intellect may partially grasp it, when the illumination of the Spirit has raised it (the Intellect) to higher planes." (Yogi Ramacharaka)
  16. Let things be

LOL. Hang around. I got a million of 'em.
  17. Let things be

the ability to 'trust' - I think there are many shades of the word. What are we trusting the universe to do? To always do what we have in our mind, what we can 'see' in the future, what we want at the moment? No. I don't think that's it at all. I think it acts as a moving mechanism. The flow of the universe is always at work; our plans may be fixed but the universe is not. The Trust, as I see it, is to know that the universe, at that moment, has a perfect response. If we get in there and muck it up with too much fear (because we're giving up our control) it won't come out perfectly. I think it's good to remember that we are ceremonial straw dogs, as per DDJ. The universe has no preference, one over the other. No one is more important than the other, despite outward appearances. The great equalizer, as I see it, is that when we look at the pupils of another's eyes we are looking into Source. Into God. Into the Dao. As we are when we look into a mirror. Everyone, no matter how seemingly contemptuous they are, is Source. When this can be kept in mind throughout the day, where's the dysfunction? It would be like one leg of an octopus arguing with another leg, not realizing they're the same creature. (Or are they arms??)
  18. As I see it, you can't have time without space, and vice versa. I think we're a hologram of the junction of the time plane and the space plane. And because our sensory ranges are limited, sometimes I wonder if there aren't other scenarios being acted out right here where I sit. Maybe we just can't sense them. Could these be the Buddha-lands of the Sutras?

  20. Although I did start the movie thread about Mr. Rogers - this one seems to have more steam. My point for starting the thread was that I believed that Mr. Rogers utilized 'a form of wu-wei' in dealing with the reporter who was doing the piece on him. His kind, gentle silence sat as an anchor, around which the reporter spun. Until he finally healed himself because Mr. Rogers, in his steady silence, allowed the universe to heal him while this man was in his sphere. A Bum would truly have to watch the movie to see if there's agreement on this. I thought it was fabulous, and it accords with my understanding of the subtleness of wu-wei.
  21. I'm not sure that Mr. Rogers would have said the soapbox thing. But I do think that he would have been honest if he saw a derailment of the threads, and would say it directly to the persons involved. This was just done here by Ilumairen, rather than just going to management. Maybe he would have done it with a little humor. I also think the very kindest way would have been to do it in a PM. But whatever scenario, Honesty is the jewel.
