I cannot even begin to describe on how many different levels Michael's book and Gift of the Tao Stillness/Movements (and Michael himself, so generously) has helped me (not just isolate in my spiritual practice), let alone being quite an entertaining read in and of itself. I think if Michael were happen to be of Asian descent, his consideration and reception of a Qi Gong master would be tenfold, at least... Ahh yes, I'm glad you pointed this out; this notion is truly so important... in contrast to rational identification, the automatic, faulty action of the computer-like illusory ego mind sees another and instantaneously judges and compares he or she in various contexts... initially and predominantly that of general superiority or inferiority, "am I better or worse?" often based on superficial and ultimately meaningless aspects such as physical appearance; attractiveness, height, weight, race, age, gender... though the ego knows no bounds as it constantly attempts to fill the void of infinity with self-serving and narcissistic affirmation, though this void can only truly be filled with union with the Tao, infinity itself; how else could one hope to appease an insatiable desire to experience infinity.. through the ego? Infinite suffering instead of infinite love and bliss, ceaseless desiring and greed of superficial status, materialism, drama, superiority, fame and all its decadence... Living as a slave to ego, one is molded by life rather than molding life oneself, reacting instead of acting.... always victim to external circumstance. What if one were mentally trained to see all others as himself? Or even seeing life as just the dream it truly is? What to judge then? Don't adhere to fixed constraints... just breathe as deeply and rhythmically as possibly all day, but ensure that the length of the exhale near matches the length of the inhale; everyone knows how to inhale, but the problem is that barely anyone knows how to properly exhale... big beginners problem..avoid: long inhale, short exhale.... keep them balanced, even if it means cutting short your inhale despite having a longer potential, so match the exhale with inhale... this is the balance of yin (inhale) and yang (exhale) energies, otherwise you create imbalance... keep awareness on dan-tian, focus on the breath to exercise concentration and quell nuisance thoughts.

Just to warn you, if you are training to develop the dan tian, training the mo pai meditation, you are asking for serious trouble if you mix practice with other systems of nei kung/chi kung...forms, meditations, exercises of internal energetic nature.... you cannot mix Mo Pai with other cultivation methods...the energy body will go haywire. Be careful.

If you're really training Mo Pai through 'official' channels you would know that you're not supposed to tell anyone that you are training Mo Pai, thus violating the terms of your agreement with your teacher to train you. If you've somehow come by the Mo Pai level 1 meditation technique and are training Mo Pai without the guidance of a teacher, well wow good luck.

I took a break on a hike to meditate and its like I was supercharged. To live in complete minimalistic simplicity in a beautiful place of nature like that has always been a goal of mine.

Are you going to include aromatherapy in every aspect of your practice? Here's my qualms with using external tools of the five senses as an aid to practice. One, perhaps you're not as anal about it as me, but in a sense you are being dependent on something to reach a certain state of mind/being. Call me a purist, but I think that raw, unadulterated practice will result in the best outcome in terms of energetic and spiritual development. If you consistently and habitually use a tool to 'assist' in practice your body/mind/spirit will adapt and become dependent on the tool... who wants to be dependent on something in the context of what should be the most pure and independent practice in the first place? I am a heavy believer of emptiness meditation as the most efficient route to realization.... and a fixation on any of the worldly senses is going to impede progress.
