What's the easiest way to live in the present?
Rara replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in Daoist Discussion
Yeah...because I have noticed that if I do a meditation technique of "allowing thoughts to pass by and let go of them" ... well, they just ping back! It disrupts the meditation heavily. But if I just go about dealing with the issue as it arises, then I don't have anything hanging over my head to worry about anyway! Sounds quite straight forward, doesn't it? Interesting point @idiot_stimpy. That reminds me of the time when I was reading lots of self-help/spirituality books...I discarded most of the stuff I learned because it was ineffective. Yet I can see how it would would need it. -

As an example. Say one suffers from anxiety. Would you say that the best method for them is to deal with the anxiety face to face by convincing one's self that there is nothing to worry about, as such disasters are not happening right now and may never happen? As opposed to meditating on current surroundings and/or movements being made, as described by the OP? The latter does seem more artificial to me! -

Nope. Even if you're thinking about stuff in the past or worrying about the future, it's still happening now! -
Yeah, I accept that there is a Taoist sub-forum here with sub-forums for Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu inclusive. I've made plenty of use of them...the General Discussion is more pick and choose...

For the record, I didn't go out demon hunting. I was being relentlessly attacked and in a small percentage of situations, I chose to fight back. Self defense bro

Very cool. That's given me a perspecive that I was seeking months ago. Thanks!

To your first point, no, absolutely not. Presumably in this context, that "glimmering" is worth sticking around and the "obstacles" are just something to tolerate until you reach you end goal. I find many things irritating about the way my academy runs. Maybe this is all a part of the lesson, as eventually, I reach that place where I do get what I need. Put to the test, the stuff works for me...so the coaching method is doing what I need it to. If I get frustrated, that usually seems down to me haha. To your last sentence, what was the outcome?

Just so I know, @Skydog and others, are you saying that demons are merely in our own heads? Is this what you mean by "thought forms"? I have had physical manifistations taunt me in nightmares...the lucid/paralysis ones. I have shown love, and that has helped most of the time. Some remain stubborn though, so I attacked a few and even killed one. I would say the situation depends on the outcome...

We all conform to an extent in everyday life. Some more than others. That's why I don't talk loudly in the cinema lol. If you found a place that suits you, you will happily conform...if you catch my drift.

That's the Catch 22 (used that phrase twice in two days!) Discipline and conforming is a huge part of martial arts. What about the BS side of it? By then it's too late. And the who are the real BS'ers? Who speaks the truth? I personally don't feel it needs to get so deep. If you get what you need out of where you're going, that's great. If not, then time to leave.

Ah, the Black Taoist...I know of this guy. I can't see how this can be done right now. IP law states that a logo has to interfere with another logo in trade purposes, right? UFC's logo isn't an octagon, it's 3 red letters. Nor can I actually believe that the corporation is fussed about taking a small business man to court over this. It makes no sense...

Stick around to help the new blood out. The forum has really helped me, so I would like to pass it on... And there is ways learning...we'll continue to grow!

Damn, I can't even string a sentence together anymore... You know what I meant.

Well, if by you not having "I", then you don't qualify to answer my last post anyway

No worries. Yeah, what I found was that in times of high pressure, I used to think that I could ease it with extreme spiritual practice. I found I was filling my head more rather than emptying it so it opened me up to all sorts of surreal moments. I personally think you are just overthinking/overpracticing stuff to the point where it is messing with your mind. If it scares you and you are havibg breathing troubles, I would suggest switching off to it and putting your mind elsewhere. For me, spiritual practice is just as much about watching cartoons as it is meditating. Enhance your life, rather than make it worse

I went through the same thing with paralysis and lucid dreams, several times. I was not doing heavy LDT focus but meditating a lot and sorting my head out due to family and anger issues. I was deeply exploring Taoism and Buddhism while being in a very different place mentally. Has anything changed in your life recently? Just wondering if that could be a contributing factor. Spending such a long amount of time focusing on the LDT seems a bit extreme to me though...that could also be it. You could just be mentally exhaused...

Catch 22. I always wondered myself. Finding a good teacher in anything is hard. Interpreting correctly from a book is also hard!

That post was my first "like" in this thread. Congrats!
-
Hahaha....what does liking your own posts say about you?
-
Muscle farigue yeah...but one still feels energised from the, I dunno my biology sucks, increased intake of oxygen and blood pumping around the body. Is this not the same as yoga and stretching? I like how workouts, stretches and meditation all work in harmony with each other...
-
Yes...a tactical way to get someone's attention.
-
Shit...I was tired and uses the wrong word (though it could have been taken as sarcasm I guess) I meant conservative or stingy
-
See that's it. We all have different reasons for doing so (I have noticed you're more liberal Stosh) So yes, probably bad to judge posts by their likes!

Right leg over left? I was told to do the opposite haha... Yeah I know what you said yesterday...not so important as long as the breathing is correct. On that note, and damn, I'm getting confused what thread I'm on. There are 3 very similar right now all happening at once. Yesterday I was doing push ups, sit ups etc and really noticed my breathing. Am I building chi when doing workouts?? Does this mean that seated meditation/qi gong etc is not the only way?? Can it be done while watching TV sat on the sofa?
