I'm so trying hard not to like any comments on this thread. I had a member go ape on me for liking someone's comment though as it didn't fit his religious views. So I was perceived as having opposing views! I just liked the idea and the question. Amazing how people get the wrong idea about you just because you click a button!

So we have figured out a general rule for...

Hehe, all your threada are leading in to one. I just answered this question in the other post in the "general forum" The one where MH wrote the Chuang Tzu story with the animals... -
What are daoists supposed to do with thoughts according to Lao Tzu?
Rara replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in General Discussion
Ok, here it is... "I too always have tasks. For quite different reasons. Constructing my next steps in career is always happening around the work itself. Otherwise I'm cooking, cleaning, meditating, exercising, kung fu-ing All these things benefit from being mindful...and are pointless if I can't be bothered on a certain day, as performing tasks mindlessly just doesn't get them done to a satisfactory standard, and can even lead to damage. Unless they are easy tasks, where you rightly mention, mindfulness isn't needed so much." The easy tasks I speak of are walking around the house, as an example. I can get up and do it on autopilot with a small chance of tripping up of walking into things. So I can go with the flow mindlessly when walking, and enjoy looking at my surroundings. -

Yeah, my understanding is complacency. Had they have maintained mindfulness, their mistakes wouldn't have occurred. There is a stage when we practice and concentrate on something so much, that we no longer need to be mindful of it, as we do it automatically. If I can copy and paste it on my phone, I will grab something I wrote earlier in a message that explains this more from my personal way of being. -
I've also discovered something... Once I start liking a certain person's post, I feel more inclined to like more of theirs. Like subconsciously, it's a way of keeping "in" with that individual. And I notice the same goes for others liking my posts. It's like we have a clique haha. Human nature eh? So I make a conscious effort now to read everyone's posts in a thread equally and like new people's if I genuinely do. I have spotted this behaviour on twitter too. People might have 1000 followers, but 95% of interaction is with the same 6 or so people. I'm a bit sad. Analysing is what I do lol

Oh sure, I know about Chi Kung and the importance of breathing. I just like to challenge the dogma of "you must sit this way"

A random thought about spirituality from a shaman
Rara replied to skydog's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure that's what I said haha. I realised I am naturally too firey and aggressive so I focus on bringing enough yin in to cool me down, making me a warm day with a gentle breeze... Those that are too chilled may need to increase yang if it were, say, causing trouble in their lives. Extreme example being the timid that don't stand up for themselves and fall victim to, I dunno, abuse... -

Which is true to what I think Skydog is working with... And I am similar. Too much yang, in need of the yin. As I modify my diet, gradually, it creates, as Skydog puts it, "a fucking warrior". A fine balance of competent, strong and brave with the cool, calmness of a cucumber Stop me if you think I am wrong...this is just my own understanding at present. -

So mindfulness has to come first? Now, you're ex-military, right? So this makes even more sense. I bring this up here but will probably stop and continue in PM as I'm about to derail lol. More to the point, military, martial arts, sports ALL have that in common. The need to focus. Same with entrepreneurs, those that chop up Oxes....woah...WAIT! OK Chuang Tzu needs reading again! -

Yeah, I got forgetfulness... "Ball watching" so to speak. In sport...watching, day dreaming rather than being involved. Only when we have trained and trained do we become able to execute a skill...and then it must be maintained... -

Sure As long as you don't overthink it and you do things gradually to reach a more balanced state, then you will be fine. Intuition especially is powerful thing. -
Do we have proof that half or full lotus has any impact on health? Or can we assume this is dogma in spirituism as a way to show off? I can sit in full lotus, but if I'm in it for long enough, I lose circulation. Everyone must. Feet on the ground, sat upright on a chair, causes less discomfort. Which posture makes more sense from the outset?

I don't believe the founders of daoism intended meditation...
Rara replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in General Discussion
I must say, Zazen is a very good exercise to help clear the crap out of one's head. And let's not forget, Lao Tzu enforces the empty head and the full belly. Exalted is right, he never did preach how. But I guess practitioners have found various ways to achieve this. I am not a Buddhist, but I will practice Zazen if it feels necessary one day. Other days, I might crash om a bean bag and play a computer game. -

According to Lao Tzu and Zhuangzi what should be our train of thought All the time?

CD & Stosh...thank you. After a sleep, that was very clear. If I forget this lesson and ask the same question again, please slap me and refer me back to this thread, Ok? -

Also, how do we then define good? Now that is a debate that can go on forever, and I always go around in circles with it. -

I do...was it Lao Tzu that said that when having the Tao, you will be like a new born baby? Assuming that all new borns are innocent and one with the Tao. No intention...just experiencing... -

Do you feel that you have too much yin, then? Or feminine qualities? Hence your desire to cultivate yang... I also feel that we can cultivate too much. As I meditate to cool myself down, in a period where I was doing too much, I lost all assertiveness. It was sorta bad business and combat! -
Like Hitler? Always a great example...

Fabulous! You did well...especially the first half. Interestingly, I don't want to believe your last paragraph but I somewhat do. -
