I'm "this" close to going for it.

I found this cool video that shows a basic altar setup. Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjNqvrP_Jp8

Thank you Walker again for the recommendation. I am looking into the interlibrary loan as we speak. Just waiting to get more information from my library.
-
LOL. I think I'll pass on having the temple.

OK everyone, thanks for helping me in making my decision to build the altar and with what to "populate" it with. Now for the tricky part. Does anyone know what would be the standard rituals for daily practice? For example, when does one use the incense and how many times do I bow, chants, etc. I know I've been asking a lot but I really want to do this right.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing them.

lienshan, if I do put up an altar it will be a way of expressing my Daoist practice..

I'm loving this conversation. Learning a lot. Thanks for all of the participation.

tao te ching, the lieh tzu and the chuang tzu in one volume?
newTaoist posted a topic in Daoist Textual Studies
Does anyone know if the tao te ching, the lieh tzu and the chuang tzu can be bought in one volume? I'm asking because I want this for a home Daoist altar so it would be easier to display and use rather than 3 separate books. Thanks in advance my friends. -

lienshan, what a brilliant idea! thank you very much. -
what a great idea Reed! I'm sure we can all benefit from having it.

I don't believe anyone is asking for you to go away, but to try and stay on topic in this thread. As I stated, I hope that you'll start another thread to continue your great conversation.
-
sree, I agree that it would be great if you started another thread since you appear to have gone somewhat beyond the altar discussion. I do want to continue your discussion as I think it has value. Please don't take this the wrong way. And I'm not trying to cause an argument.
-
flowing hands, I would appreciate your sending me a prayer. Thank you in advance.
-
sree, calling some peoples beliefs "nonsense" doesn't seem quite right to me. I understand your position, but there is no reason for this.
-
CT, I never thought of it that way. It certainly helps me in this journey. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed information. You're a pal.

And this is related to Daoism, how?
-
If it was $5 I'd grab it right away. The $90 US cost is a used book from Amazon. I did a search for other sources and nothing comes up. Unless you know of a source I'll have to wait for a possible inter-library loan. Just to make sure I'm looking at the same book: The Taoist Manual: An Illustrated Guide Applying Taoism to Daily Life?
-
Would love to have Brock Silvers' book "The Taoist Manual", but at $90 US it's too expensive for me. I'll check into an inter-library loan. Thanks for the suggestion.

Taomeow, I think that I do need preparation before I commit to an altar. Thank you for your time and efforts in guiding me. And I thank everyone else for their input as well.

I understand. I'm not looking to look foolish either, just want to further my Daoist practice and seem to be leaning towards the religious. I may be wrong though. This sure has me thinking though.
-
my mistake. I certainly didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I mentioned my philosophical outlook to describe what I have been and am wondering if taking the next step, which I consider to be religious Daoism, is for me. Thus the question about the home altar. I'm sorry if I led anyone astray. It wasn't my intention.

Taomeow, I am very interested in what you have to say. I looked up Yoda's altar and found some disturbing things regarding the sect. How do you suggest that I proceed?
