I'm considering making a home Taoist altar, but after doing a thorough internet search, I can't find out much information about what to use and then how to use it (chants, etc.). If anyone knows about these things I'd appreciate any information that you may have. Thanks in advance

you really should read and view the videos on their main site. I found it to be very positive and interesting.

thanks guys, I'll look into them

All I've come across was using candles preferably in red holders. I haven't seen anything regarding oil lamps. But please realize that I'm new to setting up altars. I hope this helps my friend.

Here is the new positioning after having each of them incensed.
-
Bagua, I changed the positions which is better. I didn't incense them because I didn't know. I'll do that next. Thanks and if you have any other ideas please let me know.

rene, I truthfully don't know. There are no priests or temples anywhere near me and I have no idea how to do it. I guess I'll just have to do what comes naturally. I don't know what else to do .

that's one way of looking at it. I just have a different view. Just helping my own practice is all.

Thanks chidragon, I'll have to work on that.

Here is a picture of my almost complete altar. Let me know what you think.

I understand your opinion, but don't you think your language and attacks are not very Daoist? I think you need to deal with your anger, just my opinion. Normally, I enjoy your posts and find them very educational, but this is too much.

thx scottk. I'll look into it

Here are pics of the more mundane altar items: Decided on an electric candles. Wanted a nicer choice, but they were too expensive. Thought I'd try these instead of typical flowers. The Sandalwood Incense

Well, I received all the emails from Amazon that everything is being shipped, so I should get my altar 'things' within 2 weeks, hopefully sooner. Once again, thanks everyone for your support. I really mean it .

Of course, how could I forget all of my friends.

Once I receive everything and set it up of course I'll share a photo. It's so nice to have my Tao Bums friends supporting my efforts

Let me know what you think. The candles, bowls and incense aren't anything really special to see.

Hi rene! Thanks for asking how it's going. It goes well. I just had the Three Star figures delivered today, still waiting for the incense burner, incense, 2 bud vases, 2 candles, 3 offering bowls and God of Wealth Tsai Shen Yeh Sitting on Tiger Statue Figurine. I had to order them through Amazon since I don't have a car and it's easy and cheaper than most stores anyway. Since I'm not experienced with incense I decided to first try Sandal Wood. Hopefully it will be nice, if not I'll try something else. Sorry about the picture problem. I tried other ways of linking, but Tao Bums would give me a message that the type of link that I was using was wrong. Oh well, I'll try and figure out another way so you can see the items. They really look great. Anyway, thanks again for asking for an update. I'll talk to you soon.

Yeah, Tai Chi Zero was OK. A bit odder than I expected. Looking forward to part 2.

The Three Stars and the God of wealth, Zhao Gongming are who I'll initially put on my altar. I'm thrilled that Deng Ming-Dao again responded to the above question: "For Neil: The Three Stars includes the God of Prosperity (although there's another god of wealth, Zhao Gongming). The good news is that you should be able to find these figures easily, and even online if it came to that. I think you can start with creating your own altar until you find a temple as well as someone to teach you the pronunciation. I was with my master when he was once discussing the matter with a priest and the subject of pronunciation for non-Chinese speakers came up. The priest said that sincerity was far more important than clinging to accurate ritual."
