CCM vs TCM education in the USA - is there a huge difference?
Songtsan replied to Yasjua's topic in Daoist Discussion
In many states, Naturopaths can practice acupuncture and prescribe any herbs Lacs do. One could go to school for the ND and then study privately under a good TCM/CCM doctor....also in allopathy, MDs can practice acupuncture without any licensure other than their standard medical school training. In these cases, you might as well attend school for your ND or MD and study under a good CM teacher on your own..... Basically MDs have the most crossover - they can do anything -
I once saw some youtube videos of Daoists practicing martial arts in water, in fact there were a few of them. A month or two later I couldn't find any of them anywhere on youtube...those crazy dissapearring Daoists! Have any of you translation peoples tried Trados' translation localization software? There is a free trial of their basic software, might be fun: http://www.translationzone.com/products/sdl-trados-studio/free-trial.html

Hypervigilance? Exaggerated fight or flight syndrome? Perhaps seeking immersion in cacaphonous environments and learning to relax in stages....treat it like a phobia and practice progressive exposure therapy while doing some type of calm abiding meditation. See all loud noises as dharma bells....

Has anyone ever tried any of the various methods mentioned on the internet and found it to be worthwhile? Also, has anyone researched this topic in depth? I have been reading about it for some time, but other than doing my best to drink non fluoridated water, haven't gone too deep.

I use the PC exercises as needed during sex and only as much as required - yeah if you sit there and do more than a dozen contractions, you might start losing the erection, so just use a smaller number of contractions - find what's best for you. Just be aware that nonejaculatory/nonorgasmic sex can result in stagnated fluids/energies in the epididymis, vas deferens, prostate (acini ducts), and related tubing...it's important to know how to keep the tubing clean....do self prostate massage, abdominal and pelvic self massage, etc. Usually the worst fluid/energy stagnation occurs when one continuously approaches orgasm and feels the urge become 'hotter' - this is a good time to cool off and work on circulating the energy....Stagnation leads to inflammation and health issues - you can always have sex multiple times a day, returning to it once things have cooled down.

...also, the body adapts to the demands imposed upon it. SAID principle. Wim Hoff's methods use this principle. If you want to generate more heat, start spending more and more time outside with less and less clothes on, you won't even need to use special methods to some extent...your body will automatically adapt.

CCM vs TCM education in the USA - is there a huge difference?

I lived in Portland for over ten years, was admitted to both NCNM and OCOM (but never attended). I have been interested in the healing professions all of my life, but put my formal schooling on hold, partially due to my experiences in seeking out health services in allopathy, Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and various other systems. I worked at the YMCA on Barbur Blvd, which had a special membership deal for NCNM students, and so I was able to talk to a lot of the students in the dual (Naturopath + CCM) program, and also had a few regular med school friends...my overall take on all the medicines of the world is that they are all chock full of misinformation and belief systems that are constantly changing. How this relates to the OP is that I think that you should study all systems - if one can study both Naturopathy and CCM at the same time, then one could certainly study CCM and TCM at the same time...even if your school of choice only comes from one perspective, you should co-study the others. I don't care how old a medical system is, the bottom line is that they are all relatively young. Is there any system that has roots in anything more older than say 30,000 years? This amount of time is nothing. Everyone who calls themselves a physician should make a point of being a meta-physician - that's my two cents... never become complacent in your belief systems -
I've seen a few people that were heavily into astral travel come to the conclusion that they were simply lucid dreaming. I kinda think that the body never gets left - that information may be being received via electromagnetic channels which can paint an accurate picture of far away things. In any event, whether its lucid dreaming or astral travel, the practices are similar. I prefer to view all as self, all as mind anyways, so it would make no difference in that mindset. It may have value spiritually, again depending on your mindset and purposes. Even a lot of meditation systems are little more than mental masturbations - state attainments such as calm abiding, etc. Are you gaining insight from your practice? Healing of traumas? These sorts of things indicates its value....if its just some sort of adventure, or if you end up manifesting some sort of imbalance due to your incursions, then take note...

Yeah I was going to mention the same thing about the reverse osmosis water...that you need to add stuff. Getting one of my own reverse osmosis setups soon. Like I said I purposefully buy distilled water and drink only that for a week to leach the minerals out. I supplement with calcium, magnesium, and zinc and then go for a while without supplementing...I do hear some people saying how calcium carbonate is bad and they do add it to a lot of products nowadays... There is this site called decalcifyingthepineal.com which has a good synopsis of the general methods used, but is clearly set up to help sell products... So much sifting to do....

Also, where the optic nerve goes in along the back of the retina there are no cones or rods, so the mind fills in the blank for this area somehow or other...on a bright day if you look towards the sky you will see a small area about the size of a dime that sort of has little pulsations....when entities, spirits, interdimensional beings, etc. insert visuals into your mind, they can especially affect this space

If I remember correctly, in Taoist practices, the Greater Kan and Li is the equivalent of full blown Kundalini awakening. The problems most have with kundalini is that the arisal of the energy gets stuck in the head. Cooler methods, i.e. water methods as in typical MCO practice seem to work on sending the energy downwards for storage and to avoid excess fire in the head. This fire in the head is essentially mania/egomania and so forth. So yeah, I would say that if you are prone to mania and don't know how to silence your mind or how not to get caught up in fervor and rajas, you should not try to fully awaken it. If you have cleared the nadis and realize the ways to not get carried away by the rajasic energies, and can successfully cycle the energy down the conception vessel, you can do it without fear.

Never practiced gtummo, but I was able to generate massive amounts of heat, dripping sweat, while practicing nadi sodhana with the triple bhandas, kechari mudra and most of my focus on the third eye - nothing really on LDT except that small amount of attention to enact Uddiyana bhanda. I think that the practice of khumbaka, regardless of which pranayama is used, does much to cause heat generation. If you do a search on khumbaka and heat production you will find that sentiment echoed among those in the yoga community.

I use 'em some days...400 mg usually. Never noticed any negative effects, as long as I remember to drink extra water, but there is a lot of talk about coffee is both beneficial and also not as healthy. Pills vs. actual drinks containing caffeine? I can't see why it would make a difference, but I do know that some people who have no problem with coffee can get an upset stomach on caffeine pills...

Take either Effexor or Cymbalta - these antidepressants basically killed my libido. I prefer my sexual desire personally, as I find it makes me more outgoing, social, etc. Right now, I feel like someone with HSDD...but I am tapering off Cymbalta because I can't stand its side effects. I can't even get interested in sex right now, unless I smoke a bunch of marijuana. Like many others here, I recommend you learn to sublimate this useful and natural energy. Work on ending those mind fabrications and you should be fine...grasping is the root of your issue...focus on vicarious enjoyment. I have always found that the longer I go without ejaculating/orgasm, the more spiritual and refined the desires became, going from lust/hunger to a kind of non-attached love and appreciation for beautiful beings and things....

Sorry guys - haven't been around to contribute, as I am moving this week and I also have a lot of classes I must attend this week. I have always been interested in sun gazing, and have been considering light therapy via artificial means as well. As far as the original post, I'll see if I can find something to add that hasn't been said, but I am glad to hear from someone who has looked into it more... Be back in about a week or so... Edit: I have been drinking a low fluoride spring water for over one year, I occasionally drink only distilled water for about a week at a time, I have been supplementing with potassium iodide for a while, and if I take calcium supplements, I try to use calcium citrate...I have been staring at the sun with half lidded eyes when its out, and also just enjoying indirect sunlight whenever possible. Also I take melatonin. That's about what I've done lately. Practicing Shambavi mudra, and various visualization exercises for a while now....I keep hearing of yogis with huge pineal glands and its one of my pursuits....

I always wondered about, but never had the stick-to-it power, to try this: Refuse to do anything! For at least 24 hours Go into the most complete relaxation you can, and limit all outgoing activity. Then just see what happens as you play dead...for as long as you can stand it. Would spontaneous movements start to occur of increasingly complex nature? You can't scratch itches, move your limbs, or any of that stuff willingly. The only thing you can do is not do. Just watch. I wonder if the increasingly complex spontaneous movements would result in a person eventually standing up and moving around...

I think though, that the law of free will is given play to, in that Kundalini lets you do things with her, if you know how that is, and will let you run roughshod over yourself with any consequences...How many people wake it up but send it up the wrong channels, or before they have purified the nadis? Think of all the corrupt gurus, possessed by ego, who have awoken the ability to give shaktipat, yet who abuse their devotees...Kundalini, although a sentient goddess who transcends petty things like egos, will allow the ego to control her willingly methinks, in that this is part of the divine play... For good or evil, better or worse, and let karma be the judge...

Wow! That's neat stuff... I have done some pretty amazing and beautiful spontaneous martial arts dance before....I had the time of my life just being it...but then afterwards found out my back was hurt - some type of muscle spasm with nerve compression...

This quote from Wikipedia: The Goddess Ambika Leading the Eight Matrikas in Battle Against the Demon Raktabija, Folio from a Devi Mahatmya - (top row, from the left) the Matrikas - Narasimhi, Vaishnavi, Kumari, Maheshvari, Brahmi. (bottom row, from left) Varahi, Aindri, Chamunda or Kali (drinking the demon's blood), Ambika. on the right, demons arising from Raktabiīa's blood In Kāli's most famous legend, Devi Durga (Adi Parashakti) and her assistants, the Matrikas, wound the demon Raktabija, in various ways and with a variety of weapons in an attempt to destroy him. They soon find that they have worsened the situation for with every drop of blood that is dripped from Raktabija he reproduces a clone of himself. The battlefield becomes increasingly filled with his duplicates.[20] Durga, in need of help, summons Kāli to combat the demons. It is said, in some versions, that Goddess Durga actually assumes the form of Goddess Kāli at this time. The Devi Mahatmyam describes: Out of the surface of her (Durga's) forehead, fierce with frown, issued suddenly Kali of terrible countenance, armed with a sword and noose. Bearing the strange khatvanga (skull-topped staff ), decorated with a garland of skulls, clad in a tiger's skin, very appalling owing to her emaciated flesh, with gaping mouth, fearful with her tongue lolling out, having deep reddish eyes, filling the regions of the sky with her roars, falling upon impetuously and slaughtering the great asuras in that army, she devoured those hordes of the foes of the devas.[21] Kali destroys Raktabija by sucking the blood from his body and putting the many Raktabija duplicates in her gaping mouth. Pleased with her victory, Kali then dances on the field of battle, stepping on the corpses of the slain.[22] In the Devi Mahatmya version of this story, Kali is also described as a Matrika and as a Shakti or power of Devi. She is given the epithet Cāṃuṇḍā (Chamunda), i.e. the slayer of the demons Chanda and Munda.[23]Chamunda is very often identified with Kali and is very much like her in appearance and habit.[24] -So could an egoless being do a victory dance? I've read enough about the Hindu pantheon to note that they are all given personalities...however, that could just be anthropomorphism.....

Besides - all willful acts are selfish acts. Even desire to merge with Godhead, help humanity, etc. You aim to change things in any way, whether it be your 'self' or the world, it is self ish, where the prefix 'ish' denotes 'belonging to.'

It's always been suggested that the fate of galaxies was that eventually every star in it would spiral inwards....given this article below, do you think that this is what is happening? I say this because the galaxy is so star dense, and yet the black hole is proportionally larger than many galaxies vs. its size. http://worldtruth.tv/nasa-finds-monster-black-hole-in-tiny-galaxy/

I had a thought once that maybe black holes are just dark matter....
