What is potential in terms of Taoist practices?
Songtsan replied to Songtsan's topic in Daoist Discussion
I think that what we are discussing lately is whether potential is static or dynamic - changeless or changeable. I must defer to others with more experience in Taoist 'science' as I have hardly studied any Taoist materials, relatively speaking. So mainly I am just watching at this point. -
Why on earth would one practice more than one system?
Songtsan replied to BaguaKicksAss's topic in General Discussion
I practice myriad systems - but I like it that way - my system is to explore many systems! Will I be slowed down? Perhaps - but keep in mind that the fun is in the act of exploring to me - not necessarily in the attainment of a far off goal. When I get older and wiser perhaps I will settle down. -

All these definitions of potential are true and yet not true - they all depend on ones stance. I could say that I have the potential to be a good mixed martial arts fighter, but it depends on myriad factors, including age. If I am 50 years, my potential to become a good fighter is certainly different than my potential when I am 20 years old. Potential, like just about anything else, is relative to the time, as well as many other conditions - it is conditional. At least from my point of view (stance). If ones definition of potential differs from my definition, potential could very well stay the same no matter the conditions. So in order to effectively debate what potential is, we must first agree on what potential is before we debate We can engage in circular arguments to our hearts delight - but then its just a game in the word/concept maze. None of you come from exactly the place I come from, and the same with me! (don't worry I am just as confused as you lol)....very interesting, isn't it? Time/energy needlessly expended as we chase each other around. Good exercise though... So let us continue to try to condition each other as we speak of the unconditioned... Snake eats its own tail *Of course I have to remind myself that I did ask what potential was in terms of Taoist practice! It seems I must remind myself of this.... -
There is so much conflicting information out there on this subject. Who of you has experience in this topic? Asking for my girlfriend's sake...

A person standing on the top of a hill has the potential to roll down. If I feed that person lots of food and increase their mass, this person has now received an increase in the potential energy that will be actualized should they fall and roll. It therefore seems that one can feed ones own potential through various means.... -
We are one being, we have never been apart. There is nothing to fear, and fear is accepted too – it’s the immortals treasure chest of love for oneself that drives this place to hell. Except for this, we would have won long ago our own suffering. Now that we each have ourselves to contend with, should we not contend lightly, since we are all our own persons? Would you strike yourself in the face for making the same mistake that your brother did? Or your sister? Here we have magic, and by design I have contemplated this for some time. These are the times of the wheels that spin, the devices that play with each other; except for this dance we need unity now than ever before. The Earth has been shattered by war, succubus/incubus, drugs, etc. etc. for so long now. Isn’t it time to give up the ghost and accept this place as our beloved home…maybe we can create a better one down the line some time, but for now let’s pretend that this is the only one we have got.

with change being eternal, and involving 'growing pains,' can there ever be peace?

Or you can try to re-educate/evolve the arm...perhaps?

In my perfect world, men would not lose essence when they ejaculated and would be able to keep going for as long as they want...I have experienced multiple orgasms without losing the erection, but it still seemed to drain me of passion - which is what I want to keep.

You are a super-duper idiot! I love to lick the clit and the slit and the many folds, and I do it all the time! Don't assume so much because you will make an ass of yourself 10x...

I would trust the experience of women over men...

Thank you Deci Belle - this was what I was hoping for. I have heard that women have endless Yin essence before, but I have always been confused about this issue, because I am not a girl (this time anyways), although I want to look as beautiful as one. For men there is a definite shift in interest after he ejaculates...it's nature way of saying that I did my deed, now it's time to sleep - Through extensive personal experience, research and study, I have found that men lose interest in sex/love/etc. for many reasons - evolutionary reasons, chemical/hormonal, etc. - they lose the urge/impetus which drove them to copulate in the first place (those little spermies! - who will be the winner of the race!?) after they copulate. It is an act which drains the energy from the potential, which must then be built up again.

I wondered this myself - wondered if potential could be expanded or contracted....I am still awaiting answers from elsewhere. -

I totally get this and believe you -
So: When attempting this, is it true that you are not trying to concentrate deeper on perceptions, but instead trying to find that which is being aware? Because sometimes I think that although it seems that there is something perceiving the perception, that in fact - the perception itself is the seeing - and so concentrating more firmly and intensely on the perception is the true turning the light of awareness around. So, taking vision as an example: If I see a spot on the wall - I am looking right at it, gaze fixed - should I try to penetrate deeper? Or should I keep the gaze, but try to go backwards to find who is seeing it? Usually if I try to go backwards, I become aware of a feeling in my brain, as if I am going to the area where the perception is occurring. I am aware that although the perception appears to be 'away'/'apart' from me - that it is in fact occurring behind my eyes in my brain.... If that is the case, then should I not really even care so much about the spot on the wall, but instead keep searching backwards? Or can that spot be further penetrated? I have been exploring both. As far as turning the light around though, as per Secrets of the Golden Flower, I wish to focus in the 'right' directions.

I haven't yet started this practice, but it appears that the unseating, or movement of the awareness is a key 'beginning' to advance here...it seems like this practice might directly effect that, but are there other practices and tips to help me to un-contain myself? I want to start moving around!

breathing will still occur actually...yeah I would be in a hospital situation - keep in mind that this experiment would be done when I think I am months from death. If I can even persuade someone to perform it for me. It's just a possibility
