  4. What became of Qigong Master Yan Xin?

I know, right! There is so much misinformation on Yan Xin out there - i would love to dive to the bottom of that mystery. I have a feeling that the Chinese gov't are purposefully hiding information about him. Perhaps even disseminating disinformation!
  5. Kundalini Thread

I couldn't agree more - that is why I suggested going into the scientific journal databases and actually reviewing the latest literature on the phenomena. I am willing to invest a lot of time and money into doing extensive research through the various professional journals that study this (and believe me, they are studying it all over the world). I was trained in college to do this kind of thing. I can present the views of the top psychiatrists, neuroscientists, etc. and provide reference information in an official format. I would basically be writing it as if I was submitting a graduate level paper on the subject. What they teach one is to write from a perspective that is detached from personal opinion, a sort of aggregate mind-stance which presents evidence based information from empirical studies. One does not present ones own opinions, but presents the educated theories of the people in the research end of things in academia. The compilation/thesis could present as an amalgamation of the most recent research, and be subdivided into various groupings - this would ensure that people would not be scared off by religious/metaphysical/etc. labels. They could find the section they feel is most appropriate to their position. Describing it from different paradigms would allow those of different paradigms to find their niche. It could be updated constantly as new information comes in.
  6. What became of Qigong Master Yan Xin?

I was interested in this same thing....there is this one page which suggests he may have been a fake...interesting points: http://ancientway.com/blog/?p=2017 I am curious as to this as well...perhaps I shall go sleuthing soon.
  7. Train every day to become ambidextrous and beyond and you will more than likely become balanced in many ways that you cannot even imagine. Doing this will force you to become more aware and present: Do these things with the opposite hand/arm/leg/foot/etc. that you usually use: -brush teeth -carry things -write -open boxes -lift/pick things up -use remotes -phone hand -phone talk side -door open hand -get up from sitting lead leg - should be 50/50 - do you use one more than other? -punch/kick/hit -touch -shake hands -tap foot -hand gestures when talking -driving When you push up from squat position, is one leg doing more work? Do you carry purse on one side more? IPOD on one side more? When doing ab work, does one ab-side do more? you get point? Look for imbalance! and correct by strengthening other side... become left/right master
  8. Train the weak links in the chain first

walk with eyes closed - challenge balance and kinesthetic awareness - getting off topic here I know, but so many fun things to do. If doing a standing dumbbell or barbell exercise, stand on one leg, in a quarter squat position.
  9. What are you listening to?

    This video is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Train the weak links in the chain first

Always moving like a ninja, using full muscle awareness - trying to walk as light and silent as a cat, like you are stalking prey. For balance exercises on one leg, etc. Spend twice as much time balancing on the 'off' side.
  11. Kundalini Thread

Unfortunately the author, Jana Dixon, overextends herself in multiple areas in her effort to try to role-play being an 'expert,' whereas she is just one of many to experience Kundalini and have read a lot of books on the subject. She ends up just being a collator and re-poster of other authors' opinions and delves into many questionable topics that are still simply theories and have not yet been tested on any widespread basis- and yet she posts them as facts. That is what I would seek to avoid. State only those things which have been tested and retested in multiple arenas, include meta-analyses as often as possible, and be sure to make it known that these are only theories/models. Stick to mainly empirical/observational science and leave suppositions and assumptions out of it. Anyone pretending to be an expert in an official sense would be a self-proclaimed expert, as there are no university degrees in this subject. Instead of writing some sort of 'definitive guide,' it would be best to have a compilation of known and observable data, with rational explanations that simply give readers a sense of where to go next, v.s some attempt to pretend that the answer lies within the guide itself. I see it as more as a list of tried and true techniques and theories that have sound backing that could lead to further exploration, without any attempt to proselytize or convince people of any one set of beliefs. Sort of a compendium of rational systems without any adherence to mythology, superstition, etc. There is enough of that on the internet. Links could be included to these sites, but simply stick to basic facts and easily identified trends here.
  12. Train the weak links in the chain first

My left hand has always been my carrying hand....I am more comfortable carrying things in this hand than my right. If I train weights I always try to use dumbbells vs. barbells, and I train the weaker side first and whatever number of reps I fail at I will not go beyond that in the other side, even if I can.

    lots of misinformation there...just fyi

  15. hi

OK - hyperirritability, PTSD, BPD, hypervigilance, exaggerated fight or flight reponse, heightened startle response, etc. etc. These things are all chemically mediated. They are also bioelectrically mediated. Here is the big problem - if you are in these states, your kidneys are on overdrive - producing lots of excess and unnecessary adrenalin/nor-adrenalin or epinephrine/norepinephrine all the time. Your amygdala (in the brain) is one of the primary agents of fear-based reactions. Some of this could certainly be due to excess head energy. Take an anti-anxiety med such as klonopin, valium, etc. and your CNS is depressed (or drink alcohol)...but then you have a drug problem... There are of course nutraceutical solutions..many fine things which I can discuss if you want: GABA, L-theanine, L-tryptophan, or herbals...some of these are great to take every day, some of these have side effects....There are certain things I can recommend if you have the money/interest. What is most useful is to reprogram your brain using mental cultivation techniques... First of all, this heightened startle response represents energy! Yes, you can channel this energy into more useful things, whether it be mental, emotional, or physical. Let's say that you have mostly mental anxiety...perhaps you think people hate you, you worry about your bills, etc. This is energy use gone wrong. You simply have to redirect the flow. Watch your brain to see how it works. Use that emphasis that it has on connecting things and worrying about things to connect and worry about more important things, such as the purpose of life, sex, drugs, or rock and roll. Yes, I am being flippant, but behind the flippancy lies the way. You want to use your excessive mental energy and redirect it to something of more interest (something more useful too). So if you are worrying about bills, but can't do anything about them, because you are doing all you can, start worrying about your health instead. What? (you say). Yes! See this excessive rumination can be used to solve problems. So if your problem cannot be solved and all you are doing is running around self-defeating yourself with thought loops, use this tendency somewhere where it is better placed. I use health as an example because maybe you have a problem that you aren't sure how to handle, you aren't clear on, etc. Use your tendency to hyper-ruminate and put it to work to solve problems. If you have a busy beaver that is trying to chew your favorite tree down, take him and put him to work out back on that old stump you always wanted to have removed. That is one example. Now let's say that you don't have hyper-rumination, but have an excessive anxiety of everyday things, like shadows, noises, flashes of movement, etc. What I do here is to become ultra aware all the time (like meditating!)...turn yourself into a master Buddha...turn this sensitivity to sense stimuli into a bonus check by becoming super-conscious! It works...Embrace all incoming stimuli - don't shrink away from your sensitivity, instead, expand it further. Allow. Allow. Allow. Stay relaxed in your center, but be aware of the slightest change in the outside world - focus entirely on the outside world...make your tendency to hyperfocus on novel stimuli a moving meditation. Become ultra aware of everything around you. Stop thinking altogether and keep watching everything and realize the bliss that your heightened awareness can bring. All clouds have silver linings. If you have excess energy that you cannot get rid of...use it somewhere - redirect the force (go workout, do a project, do some emotional cathartic release!) Nothing is totally bad - spin that disc until you meet something good. These things might be useful, however, before I go further, can you tell me your exact condition? I will analyze and produce a personalized program of mind cultivation for you. Be as detailed as you can...if you don't want to post here, PM me and we can do it there.
  16. Kundalini Thread

I like how Wikipedia does their stuff -they let the knowledgeable co-collaborate and produce pretty good stuff..obviously not everybody agrees with everything, bu it is a very useful service. That is why I suggested a co-creative project here...my interests in it are on the hot plate, and I probably have more experience/research/history/etc. than most people I know on this site. Sometimes people confuse confidence and brash honesty with arrogance and assume I am supercilious, just because I was in prison and do drugs. It's not like that, seriously...this is the one subject I probably have the spent the most time contemplating and researching, even and above my interest in enlightenment and health itself. I am fascinated by Kundalini, and an avid skeptic, so I am not easily caught up in dogma or delusional belief systems. I approach it from a scientific point of view. To me, science is equivalent to the spiritual search for truth. I also happen to have access to all the best databases for journal articles through the University of Rochester and RIT, and would be willing to go look up the most up-to-date info on it. Did you know that Kundalini and Qigong illness are included as topics and legitimate disorders in the DSM-IV? People tend to underestimate western science - they aren't stupid. Jung himself was interested in Kundalini and that was so far back.
  17. Kundalini Thread

I dont have much time to elaborate, but I have about 16 years experience with Kundalini, and have been extensively researching it since that time. My bio of sorts is here on the site under 'Just so everybody knows...' and I have also posted on Kundalini often, including one ~20 page post. I am heavily influenced by Stuart Sovatsky. I would not be posting opinions so much as theories, including all the dominant ones going around at this time. I never said I know everything about it. What I am able and willing to do is provide a collection of competing theories and discuss the pros and cons of each. My goal would be to provide as much information as possible, without attempting to sway readers towards one theory or another.
  18. hi

There are tons more things to do for GAD/hyper-vigilance than just qigong..I am going to write you something big tomorrow or the next day...some mind tricks, some nutrition tricks, some supplement tricks, etc.
  19. hi

I think GAD is often related to an exaggerated fight or flight response and what is called 'hyper-vigilance' i.e. the tendency to constantly track incoming sensations as if a threat might be present. Often this is due to too much head energy...qigong techniques will definitely assist you. I am too sleepy right now to say much on it, but I will get back to you.
  20. does smoking increase or decrease chi flow

I have heard of that...supposedly the different brands are made with different stuff (the base chemical that is), so one can keep trying until one finds the right brand that doesn't cause any problems..I am not a smoker though - i was just researching it to try to get my mom into it. Yeah, i remember when I smoked at a hookah bar I would get a headache...it something in the sugary chemical I think.
  21. hi

I can relate as I have that too in a way...this will be a good place for you to find useful advice...
  22. hi

    What's are your goals/objectives?
  23. Kundalini Thread

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the TTB community co-writing a packet for Kundalini & Qigong illness, etc. It could be a sub-forum and a sticky-thread. It would be a great resource for those who come looking... We should start brainstorming the layout of it... you know: -signs/symptoms, community resources, standard advices, tips/tricks, FAQs, etc. This is a time-consuming project though...could take a while...I have the time for it as I am unemployed, etc.
  24. Vegetarianism and Cultivation

I've been mostly vegetarian lately..what I do is take whey protein powder, drink shots of egg-whites from the carton, and I supplement with a good B-multi in addition to regular vitamins.
  25. does smoking increase or decrease chi flow

Ever try E-cigs? I hear it's a good way to quit. I am trying to talk my mother into it. You still get the nicotine, but none of the crap in your lungs......its cheaper than tobacco too...try doing some research on it.
