  1. Love his thoughts / teachings on mindfulness .
  2. An hour or 2 per day, or more like all day everyday?
  3. Fuck karma

My frustration of trying to understand half the posts in this thread has led to my new topic over in Buddhist discussion http://thetaobums.com/topic/32982-so-how-do-you-guys-do-stuff-idiots-guide-in-plain-english/
  4. There have been many many times along the path that I felt the challenge was 110% of what my capacity is/was! I like mountain climbing too . I don't do it for long periods either, but my legs still try to convince me that there is no worse pain in the entire universe...
  5. Fuck karma

Interesting . Is that sort of like the day my weeklong headache finally vanished... but I forgotten I had had one until it was gone? Or the time I managed to get to the whole completely free feeling after a long-term retreat... hadn't realized I wasn't in this state already . I have noticed more underlying stress than I realize at times, and am often surprised, especially when there is nothing to be stressed about and I am supposedly "relaxed" at the time. Though I could be missing the point entirely and just reading my own personal stuff into this... (didn't post this in buddhist as I know nothing of the path and this concept, and am likely missing the concept )
  6. Dream Teacher...?

Always fun when a here/now teacher shows up in dreams. Depending on the teacher, they will say "yes that was me, and you weren't understanding it fully on this plane, so did some dreamtime teaching", and the other half of the time (other teachers) they will just look at me like I'm a little crazy .
  7. Author Tom Bisio?

I guess the question would really be... how are they compared with other books on these topics? Sure Bisio's aren't perfect, but they *are* books afterall, which from what I have found never do come close to in person teaching.. so I'm curious to hear about the comparisons....
  8. Getting Up at Sunrise

A friend of mine once told me he does his qigong everyday at sunrise and that he recommends that time. So I asked him how on earth do you do that? Well he gets up at sunrise, does his hour or two of qigong, then goes back to sleep for a couple of hours . I really like his way of thinking.
  9. Fuck karma

    Link here please .
  10. I always love seeing things like this happen! You know that "holy hell that should have taken you 5 years to get" sort of thing . I didn't talk about martial arts or qigong at all as I'm way to new to both to really be able to understand/comment yet... but I have this sneaking suspicion... . Thank you for sharing this story. Hmmm, then once they have whatever it is that brings about some extra skill or whatever, I'm guessing folks who have been through much hardship think of training is not all that bad in comparison. I'm thinking of the ouchy martial arts training in this one though. So what do you think it is?
  11. How to bring a family member to self-reflect?

I guess thinking about it, it is not what Sifu has said to me that has created the best impressions and the most change, but more watching how he is, and seeing how he practices, and who he is, is what has inspired me the most and helped bring about the most change . He's a very good influence.
  12. How to bring a family member to self-reflect?

    This guy is awesome!
  13. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/For-40-Years-This-Russian-Family-Was-Cut-Off-From-Human-Contact-Unaware-of-World-War-II-188843001.html This reminds me of a documentary awhile back about some families who live in a remote area of the taiga. and 1-2 members of each family will go off alone fur trapping in extremely harsh conditions, even for them, for many months at a time. Each and every one of them said that hey loved it to just be with nature and nothing else for all that time. Even though the conditions were extremely difficult to survive in. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/happy_people_a_year_in_the_taiga/
  14. It tends to give me what I want, as it likes to remind me "be careful what you wish for" .
  15. Author Tom Bisio?

I'm curious what you have thought of his videos?
  16. This Guy Puts His Hands In Boiling Oil

    ROFL the thread title .
  17. Choosing the spiritual path in life

Joy is 20% off this week . If I was better with photoshop I could have a lot of fun with this!
  18. In one of his vids JAJ mentions that the folks he's worked on who had cancer (as well as other horrible diseases) were all (or pretty close to all) grateful for that particular experience. Sifu has found the same thing in his practice. They talk about how what they have in life now, and the changes that have occurred would not have happened if not for the life changing disease they had. Now monks though, they already have worked past a lot of their stuff and are doing what they most desire and are meant to right? So likely not for the reasons above. Yeah I'll pass on that whole suffering stuff thanks, been there, done that, got the tshirt, threw out the tshirt .
  19. Choosing the spiritual path in life

I don't know, does that valley have cherry trees?
  20. How to bring a family member to self-reflect?

Tell them they are awesome and that you love them . Works for me....
  21. Choosing the spiritual path in life

Well it's not always awesome and beautiful on the way, you have to purify yourself first, and sometimes during this process things can seem pretty bleak for a time. Not having attachment to mundane stuff is helpful, it is one less thing you grasp after. Also when we give up one way of life, our mind etc. tries to either get it back or replace it with something else. This will pass. There is much more to life than that stuff though, such as... Love (I mean more than just of people) Music Art (especially doing your own) Hiking (goes to visit Brian) Exploring Experimenting Inventing Being Reading Bagua ( ) and of course whatever else brings you personally the most joy and fulfillment. To meet similar people, well after a time of practice you just sort of attract them and they attract you, and naturally those who are stuck in ways you have left behind seem to just fall away. If you can meet your martial arts goals within the first 10-20 years, you might want to find a teacher who's path/practice goes deeper . I think that as you follow your path and things open up more and more to you, then you will have things which you seek to go deeper into. Btw, do you have a spiritual practice at all? Is that of interest to you? You mentioned enlightenment, so I'm figuring so? No worries, eventually things will settle out and make more sense.
  22. Dream Teacher...?

Hehe, even folks on the dream plane are a little tired of hearing about JC and MP . Dream teachers are awesome! You can get some pretty neat info from them. You can also always call this teacher back to ask more questions, likely after you have tried and worked with what he did show you.
  23. I don't watch or own a TV. Though I have seen Adams family on other people's a few times, but not enough to memorize what most of the people on it look like... Edit: to add TTBs is *much* more entertaining!
  24. Hot Yoga guru raped students in cult-like training

Before my first reply I'd read the article very carefully to see if it was actual rape, or perhaps just a bit of easy coercion... Rape in this case. I know of some very sex based groups, nothing wrong with that in my personal opinion, especially since everything is up front. People know what it's all about going in. But raping, several women... that goes far far beyond sexual imbalance imo. (if it was just one, perhaps they lied, but several?) Though definitely an interesting perspective to see why some of this goes on. Makes you wonder if something is missing in the practice? Either some better grounding stuff, some better self control stuff, or some purposeful partner work stuff?
