http://themindunleashed.org/2014/01/scientists-discover-plants-can-learn-remember.html An interesting addition to the last article we published about the Mimosa plant and memory. The evidence for plant consciousness seems to be stacking more and more each day. How fascinating. New research from a team of scientists at the University of Western Australia will change the way you think about the difference between plants and animals. Mimosa pundica plants, they found, can learn and remember, despite not having a brain. Those active little fern-like things always did seem sort of smart, though, didn’t they? With a name that literally means “shy,” the Mimosa pundica is a particularly unique piece of flora, as it responds to touch by folding inward to protect itself from predators. Wondering if this was just a straightforward reflex, the Australian researchers rigged up an apparatus that would drop water on the plant in both high- and low-light environments. Much to their surprise, they found that the plant stopped opening and closing once it learned that the drops weren’t harmful. More impressively, the plants remembered that lesson several weeks after the initial training. The scientists are unclear on the exact biology of what makes Mimosa pundica plants learn and remember, but they suspect it has something to do with the plants’ calcium-based signally network in their cells. This sophisticated system works not unlike animals’ memory processes, giving the researchers cause to reconsider the difference between plants and animals. It just makes you wonder: Just how smart can plants get? Maybe Lord of the Rings isn’t such a fantasy after all. Credits: Gizmodo Categories ConsciousnessNews

what the daoist master ordered at the hotdog stand

Wouldn't most Daoists and Buddhists have ordered one of those vegan version ones? -
Can you email the folks who led the meditation and ask? Sounds like they used essential oils (or incense) to scent the ball. Neat idea . The ball could also be made out of aloeswood, but only if the meditation session cost a few hundred $$ extra.

Oregon's forests are a bit sparse, compared to here and western WA . Though much much more forested than California! The funny thing is, I want to lead retreats up here, but no one (accept perhaps 2 people in this thread lol) would ever come during the rainy times. So june-Sept it is.

Most of the grottos are blocked off though . -
Or just a section where it can't be seen by google?

You have a lineage chart we can look at Antares? (since you are calling out another member for lack thereof). It doesn't necessarily take lineage to see a student's energy, how it flows and etc., and offer corrections with such, btw. Oh sure it helps, but some folks just have it. The whole can feel the alignment is off before you see it with your eyes . Sort of like some acupuncturists have it.... Then there are some teachers with very impressive lineages who can't see this very well; I never understood what is up with that (since impressive lineages generally come with proper teaching and exercises to get one there)

That's a good point.. please repost in the vote thread, since the staff actually reads that one (and is taking people's opinions into account) -
Everyone here (and in western WA state) always complains about to much rain. At least it brings the most awesome forests ever. My California friends kept trying to take me to "forests"... yeah those don't count .

Oops, this was the public area. I'll let admin answer. Something along the lines of sock puppetry..

Yes, full body movement is very important! -
Calamine lotion even helps when there are no visible hives (or any regular reason for the itching) . No idea if they have it in china though... oh hell in china the traditional chinese medicine doctors would likely have something way better, and could balance out that qi while you are at it. Good acupuncturists can also see where your qi might be acting odd and fix it up. Btw, pretty awesome you have stuck it out this long and gone this far.

You been to see an allergist? Also rubbing calamine lotion on tends to get rid of ichyness, no matter the source. Did you have a teacher when you started the practice, or partway through? I'm hoping so, as over 2 years of MoPai without a teacher could lead to some problems... I would say get ahold of your old teacher... but uhm, if it was Jim that wouldn't be possible. On a side note, flying to Indonesia doesn't guarantee he/they will see you (from all I have heard anyways). Edit to add: if you can get together with a local teacher of neigong or at least qigong or a qigong healer (that doesn't suck), and yeah what Andrei said below .

I, for example, didn't even look at any forums besides Taoist discussion and Hermetic before I became staff, so you are likely right . -
Huh? No idea what you are talking about, never seen such a thing... on any site. As to emailing the entire membership, we can do that, sorta kinda. It sort of works. We got an entire 15 or so replies to our change your pw to something better email. The messages also come garbled. They also dont work so well in general for whatever reason, perhaps the email services pick up that it is a mass mailing (doesn't even show up in junk). There is no way to PM the entire membership (accept manually). But also is it really important to hear from members who hasn't been on the board in over 6 months, or members who only posted once or twice? I would personally think the daily active membership which has to put up with Mo.... is online reading and replying to threads, would be more important.

TheTaoBums. It really is one of the oddest things I have ever found . -
Done . Anyone else like some nice sub-fora?
-
With Aikido you get ki aikido vs aikido! I've heard some debates lol. Though you are right, far less in the japanese martial arts than the chinese. Also a lot less in the phillipino ones.

I found that announcing there is a topic in one of our new sections, in general discussion, to work really well....
-
Looks like a resounding NO mopai section. I'm tempted to start another poll... "move all mopai discussion to the pit" *yes* *no*. Too bad no one liked my "controversial topics" subforum (in the pit) idea . It would make it much much less about MP.
-
Looks to be about the same number of votes we get on any issue. Likely something to do with what % of members actively read and edit. Should pickup on the weekend though...
-
Reminds me of martial arts. One lineage vs another. Hopefully I'm wrong in the MP case, but...

Just ones that I know in person, or who have been staff and shared such things with us all .
