Isn't transmission a teacher transferring a bit of power and of the particular path/method, from generations back, to the student? Via video, I guess you could transfer some energy over to make the things being discussed easier on the student, and if the path ancestors had nothing better to do than help every single video watcher.... I have had talks with teachers via skype and also in person, and I find more is passed along in person. On more levels or something. I have also noticed (from my own experience and watching that of others) that it does fade after a few days, weeks or months if the student doesn't go practice lots and make it their own. Though I think some things are for life (and hence why I'm really cautious about who I receive teachings from).

dawei, do you mean the same thing, but different wording? Or do you perhaps mean putting them on moderated posting status for example (that is doable). Or? Suspension basically = they can't post, nor do PMs....

So how come someone would give a person who is extremely unbalanced a transmission and permission to teach? Wouldn't that be passing along an extremely unbalanced version of things to any people the crazy person gives transmissions to? Unless maybe it was the transmissions that caused the psychological disturbance (them not being ready, or already halfway there?)

Please excuse the very newbie question! Empowerments were brought up in another thread, and it got me curious. Are they more analogous to "initiations", or perhaps "transmissions", or something else entirely? It makes a little less sense to me since I have seen weekend workshops locally which offer them. Folks come over from India to teach for a bit. I'm guessing that isn't the only way they are done. Also if one did receive empowerment from a weekend workshop would they have the knowledge and training to make it useful and work with it?

Yeah you get all the negative crap the teacher hasn't worked out yet along with it as well... I mean if they are anything like transmissions or initiations...

So what exactly is it that makes something Dzogchen? What makes it *not* Dzogchen? I mean in general...

In all seriousness, if you are even questioning whether you should off the mice or not, obviously not, especially since you are moving soon . Though if you want to save the little miceys from the next occupants ,seal up all the holes...

If it's anything like chinese martial arts and qigong, you can buy those certificates without even being qualified .

Anyone thinking of training with him has all the information they need, so no purpose in discussing whether he is legit or not in this thread....

How do folks not go insane from this? Or is it more like one only takes in the little bit they can handle at any given time and it grows as the person does?

I have found that people who aren't ready, can use stuff they shouldn't. Also people with crappy ethics can just fine as well. I had asked a student to not teach the stuff to anyone, especially not a certain person (as the spirits had told me to NEVER teach her ever). So of course he went and taught it to this person... *sigh*. All was fine and good until she emailed me from the hospital in the psyche ward. Then there was that guy (fortunately I never taught him and never will) who cursed his roomate for stealing bread out of the fridge... Or even worse, folks who learn a little bit from a tidbit of info made public, then think they are a master and teach others without the experience, practice, wisdom or knowledge, or the other 99.9%, of the system....

I understand charging for teachings... but also feel that a sliding scale is good sometimes . (on a side note, funny thing, when one undercharges people tend to give you raises lolol).

The current Dalai Lama is so awesome! He's one of those folks you can just feel it in him, all the time. Hmmm, those two traits are difficult to find in people from all I have seen. Though sometimes....

I know a few folks (including my old roomate) who tried to train their cat to eat, or at least hunt mice, no such luck lol. From what I recall, over on the island in a log cabin, we just gave up eventually.... though seeing a rat dead in the bathtub one morning was rather unpleasant. We never used poison or bait, so not quite sure how that happened. My roomate's cooking was pretty bad sometimes...

I was trying to resist so hard regarding offering recipes in this thread, as my morbid sense of humor is sometimes not appreciated, so thank you for going there so I didn't have to .

This rant has been simmering for awhile . I could be dead wrong, and hope I am actually... but... To give some perspective for my rant, the only things I know about Buddhism are from TTBs and the local newagers who attend workshops every weekend in their lulumon tights, to get empowerments. The only stuff I know about Daoism is from 1.5 years of training with Sifu, but we mostly talk about Bagua and medical qigong; TTBs, and fortunately the posts of Michael Saso. And this may sound really cynical and skeptical... well OK it is... but really, enlightened Lamas from Tibet and India travel to my city every week (we get new ones coming through here all the time) to charge more than minimum wage workers can afford, to give real empowerments to rooms full of people?! Is it just me, or does this not add up somehow? I have been warned that when I do travel to India (I really do want to visit the temple of Kali ) that any guru I would meet over there is fake. OK so then why would the ones who travel around the world on planes to teach large roomfulls of people not be fake?

What's your lineage? I couldn't find it on your website?
