There are no absolutes When a rural farmer in his hundreds is smoking a cigar with a glass of whiskey and eats bacon, toast and 3 eggs every morning and a health nut who never ever smoked dies young then the OP question is true and false. Not only is generalizing neither true or false but words themselves are caught in duality so when intentions are understood words do not matter as much.

If we follow the principles meaning what works the appearance to the visual world will look like endless styles, traditions, schools, and systems based on geological locations, cultures and so on. Be none of them.

Dragon Gate institute seems like an awesome school. I travel to Montreal and Quebec more often but if I am ever in Vancouver I would love to stop in and say hi. Nice site.

Share your "Suppressing the thinking mind" techniques
Wu Ming Jen replied to Tatsumaru's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I love to see where my thoughts come from and most of my thoughts are not even me. It is funny how mind creates obstacles that get in our way. So I like the saying when you see buddha on your path kill him. The thinking mind and shining mind need to get married because they are in love with each other. the darker mind will follow the light mind. The real opponent is ourselves we need to choose the leader . There is something the mind depends on to be so, make that the leader and we see just how stupid mind really is. -

When mind is full focus on the breath when breath is rough use the mind to make it smooth. Body and mind rest on each other. Thoughts happen in words, drop words because we are basically telling ourselves what we already know. This thinking part of mind is a great tool but when the tool is not needed put the tool away. What is left is awareness and if the thinking mind wants to get involved like always be a really bad host, do not listen or feed this mind, For the very busy minded give mind the job of observation without attachment and switch from internal awareness to environmental awareness then in and out at the same time not a great method but a trick to discipline the mind. -
Have you ever heard anyone say, hey I heard the Tao talking to me the other night. Wordless teaching, weird that's like the formless form or the gateless gate. Everything is alive and speaking to us without words constantly however we wish to describe it,vibrations, waves, energy, bioelectrica or Chi with has a much broader meaning. Because we have our own energy system we can interact. Animals communicate without words yet still speak to us. We are swimming in a unlimited source of awareness so we could choose the listen or just keep our minds busy so we do not hear the soundless song.

Tao is considered to have ineffable qualities that prevent it from being defined or expressed in words. It can, however, be known or experienced, and its principles (which can be discerned by observing Nature) can be followed or practiced. The Tao is in everyday living. The spiritual is the mundane. The day in, day out rhythm and our own light of awareness. Change your light, change your world, True freedom can not be won by war but the battle must take place of who is in charge> Is it going to be the self we create trapped in a temporary body or the spirit before time as we "know" it? Who is willing to do the effortless work? Who can wait for the flower to bloom and release sweet perfume. Who can be themselves and a flower at the same time and not know the difference?

Please be aware that wudang internal alchemy is taught only to those who meet the requirements of that practice and are destined to receive this teachings. In times when everyone trying to sell this knowledge as product for their own benefit, many advertisements about internal alchemy courses had appear on the internet. In fact the content of those courses usually covers only the longevity and basic Qigong training erroneously called internal alchemy, and have nothing to do with neidan life and death solving methods. Please be aware that wudang internal alchemy preparation and practice cannot be taught within one or two weeks it requires years of training under the guidance of accomplished master. The first step is the foundation, physical practice this continues throughout training the three stages. The last stage associated with the saying 9 years to complete means a very long time.

When we discover or remember we are apart of the Tao, good, great, true, divine which makes us connected and related to all things we discover nobility of character this is what morals are based on,Morals are not the real deal, Morals are more like some dandruff falling from the Tao.

Opposites that contain each other they are related. only latter Greek philosophy puts opposites as not related and hostile to each other, nature continually disproves this.. Conditioned mind sends the shinning mind of tao to the bottom of consciousness and the internal government become corrupt. Open Tao that is a good description of the imagless because it contains all things it is round and open.

If you have thoughts and pre conceived ideas about Tao it would be the only thing holding you back from understanding No -Thing.

What is Tao? If we take away the question and the "what" meaning as soon as we say what Tao is Tao also includes everything else the "what" is not. Then if we read the same question backwards we get the most incredible answer. Tao is..... By this we have removed the original error of the OP. Now having nothing to attach our thoughts to we just have peace of mind.

Our true self is divine. Our true self is Tao undescribable. Tao is about us, Tao is freedom of knowledge and pure awareness of our immortality. The grand ultimate pole or Tai Chi. We are related to everything and responsible for it, IT is us, all things, beyond the mind of mortals caught in deception of who we really are. No worries of people not acting naturally meaning spontaneous with the Tao, with our relationship with all that is and in balance and harmony. Because IT is us no separation. The downside of this beautiful story is if you oppose naturalness, oppose the Tao..... you die.

"Meditation can lead people into possible psychosis," according by Dr. Miguel Farias, author of "The Buddha Pill: Can Meditation Change You?"
Wu Ming Jen replied to zen-bear's topic in Group Studies
In taoism altered states is not correct meditation. In meditation or busy at work one is the same maybe a bit more mindful and aware. Those who seek altered states using meditation as the vehicle are already on the wrong path. Those who seek images to be meaningful in meditation have lost their way. The great image is imageless. Psychosis seems to be caused by a different mode of thinking then the mind of meditation when physically active or still . Meditation is not seeking the illusion self, the conditioned mind, I am this, I am that, This mode of thinking is the problem it is the opposite of true freedom The author is himself stuck in this mode of mind he mistakes his body and conditioned mind to be who he is and cant escape, we need to save him and have him stop meditating.- 40 replies

Qi breathing will not slow the aging process
Wu Ming Jen replied to d4rr3n's topic in Daoist Discussion
What is totality how many descriptions are there to describe totality. when we reduce totality to a single thing with description we are negating much of its existence. The thing is like the Tao The earth is not caring yet cares for all living things who among us can be like earth. Heaven is not kind but shows kindness to all living things who among us can be like heaven. -
Dao is empty, but things have forms. Dao is the source of all things. Dao has no form, it can be given but cannot be taken, it can be gained but cannot be seen. Tao has nothing to know, there is no knowing, no knowing is where we all came from and return, there is eternity in this. We observe Taos function in the physical world not the Tao itself it is imageless nothing for the mind to attach to. so replace knowing with awareness. then you can become aware of the unseen, the imageless.

Emotional energy can only work when we our selves have this hate, anger, fear and all the rest. We are looking at our reflection and how these things effect us. If we did not fear these hate groups or terrorist their cause would ultimately have no effect. Any other animal on this planet can not be made to do stuff out of fear or death only humans, that is weird.

Qi breathing will not slow the aging process

Why do immortals have to fit into our thoughts of what an immortal's is or should be? Being the judge ourselves we may walk by immortals everyday and never know because this one is fat, this one is old, this one says weird things and the list goes on. If anyone wishes to discount breathing let them not breath for 5 minutes and let us know if it is important or not. Breathing as we do when we are young from the belly reverses the direction of chest breathing and upward. If anyone wishes to live in the body forever is just messed up, clinging with attachment, mistaking their body for who they are more weird thoughts only brings more weirdness into this world. -
That was Zen this is Tao . Tao had a baby with buddha called Chan. When Chan moved to japan from china he changed his name to Zen to fit in with the all male monastery that welcomed him. The lack of females required zen not to increase vitality and find direct transcendence without his body. The mysterious female was sad for Zen and wished he could have learned more from his mother. Zen went on to do great things but always had a missing part of his heart.

Morals = right wrong, good bad Thankfully Lao Tzu addresses this to help humanity heal from this mental illness and conditioning by the owners of such false perceptions and points the way to true freedom.

No, observational philosophy does not fit in with mental conceptions, mental dis ease should be eliminated.

The Holy Spirit is not Kundalini - Daskalos
Wu Ming Jen replied to Tibetan_Ice's topic in General Discussion
Dragon serpent has a different positive nature not the evil nature that is found in the western approach to life. This holy spirit has an agenda the crimes committed by this church against humanity during its history is unforgivable. -
The Holy Spirit is not Kundalini - Daskalos

Kundalini is awakening, the holy spirit is the system to mis direct and not allow the people to awaken. -
It is interesting that the Chinese Taoist gods are all people from history. That makes Gods not from another higher world like other religions. Buddhist have actual people being Buddhas just like Taoist. God means unified mind in Taoist not a external untouchable killing god fond of genocide and looking out for a chosen people. this is a major mistake we need to correct. Jesus the hippy son of a horrible father and that talks like a Buddha was used to soften up the evil of western religion IMO conclusion Gods are people, devils are people like pope sixtieth the third and sooo many others in history. Mother earth, yin, Kwan yin can be found in all systems because she is awesome and a reality we all supported by. End rant.
