Wu Dang translates as the perfected warrior. When engaging in battle always leave a way out for the opponents. If the opponents feel trapped they will turn into tigers. A Warrior will end violence, greed and fear from themselves once they learn to control their own bodies then controlling others is easy.

The earth is square means that what is seen the physical material, earth. Heaven is round refers to that of the unseen the non material, having no form. Yin and Yang. The method of Observation of the chinese in early BC. is now the model for modern astronomy. Did early chinese astronomy ever believe the earth would be different in appearance like being flat then the sun, stars and the moon in the sky we look at every day?

The best answer to the universe is that it is not a question It is like asking what is the meaning of life, again it is put in a question format. Take away the question and there is the answer. I have no question about life or the universe because that type of intellectual knowledge prompted by a question of things deprives one from awareness of what is already experienced. An answer would be a partial understanding about one specific aspect of the question. The non physical and physical properties of being are understood simultaneously without separation or delay. My two cents and unlimited love to Bud.

Confucius was a Sage: Testimony of a Hostile Witness
Wu Ming Jen replied to Zhongyongdaoist's topic in Confucian Philosophy
I thought Confucius was a scholar and saw value of the Taoist traditions. -
Its interesting to me that we are all in the garden of eden food, remedies for illness, natural resources for basic survival are all present yet the undertow of man's concept of not being part of nature removes the reality of having respect the for the earth as well as each other. Had to edit posted before I was done whoops

Missing the point of uncontrived. loss and gain require a very narrow vision only seeing a sliver instead of the whole pie. Necessity is the mother of invention.
-
Natural, un-contrived, without thought of gain or loss, good or bad, short hair or long hair. Running naked in the jungle or wearing layers of clothes in the north country. Environment requires one to use the natural laws of nature to ones advantage as stillness overcomes heat and movement overcomes cold. Humans and Gods that are separate from nature have lost their way.

Good point. When it comes to a beard, tats or hairstyle on a personal level its all superficial adornment of self and does not need any attention by reading made up preconceived thoughts of what it MEANS to ones self into it. Respecting the body and our ancestors is very simple to understand being at a deeper level then the superficial.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The opponent is trying to steal energy by effecting in any way possible. if we give the opponent no energy in return removing all resistance the opponent will not be satisfied and lose interest. On a physical level the opponent strikes only to find that there is nothing there. if we need to return the gift the opposite side of the body can strike without mercy. lead your opponent to emptiness.

Principle means something that works, Passion is what your into deeply. purpose or duty is what it takes to make things happen beyond just self. Mind alone being intelligent does stupid stuff and beatable is not the right word it implies resistance the shining mind or spirit should be in charge of affairs then the mind will follow orders without making a mess out of life.

Dealing with emotions directly is best. Some hide from facts like an unexpected death of someone close to our hearts. Some will mask undealt with emotions with depression medication or a form of escape doing anything but go into the tiger's cave. Cycling through the emotions on a daily bases is healthy it is when we hold on and attach to one emotion illness occurs. There are harsh words about death and birth like...... being overjoyed with birth and devastated with death is to be a child of circumstance. This is to reflect and see where these emotions come from. At a funeral there will be tears and there will be laughter it is only those that attach and can not cycle that are only seeing a sliver of what is going on instead of the whole picture. I have loved and I have lost but the energy of those loved ones is always present it is a part of us. Most veiw death in a selfish way only seeing their own mortality. Mind sees beginning and ends but the spirit the energy of a being is everlasting whether present physically or not. @ Des you are awesome sorry for your loss.

Heaven and Earth are long-lasting. The reason why Heaven and Earth can last long is that they live not for themselves, and thus they are able to endure. Only the human mind see itself as separate and independent of our environment yet we are the environment and create for better or worse the conditions of our environment. It is a shame that humans are responsible and the creators of conditions of this world and do not know their true divine being thus creating a self separate from it all and the the natural world and the best excuse for all times is.....we are not responsible because in a God we trust. pretty lame excuse to not take responsibility and understand we are all the same living organism.

Requesting a general introduction in chakra's
Wu Ming Jen replied to willem20's topic in General Discussion
Hi spotless, I am saying that energy has no fixed physical location. It is not here or there in the body it is the point where the physical elements do not adhere beyond the laws of the physical world. -

Hi Spotless, what moves the fingers? The physical location is an association for a particular energy so think energy without a body we leave the realm of non permanence not mistaking the temporary for the eternal. -
How to Avoid Crippling Passivity in Taosim
Wu Ming Jen replied to topaz's topic in Daoist Discussion
I hear what you are saying, there is duty which we do not seek joy. Having the ability to perform such task is a great thing. -
I go to Wudang Taoist Kung Fu Academy next to Purple Heaven Palace. Lots of Schools and private teachers depending on what you are interested in, Truly an amazing experience.

How to Avoid Crippling Passivity in Taosim

A Master Chef does not boil water because fire boils water. A Master carpenter does not cut wood because metal cuts wood. Doing without contrivance is wu wei, exactly how nature gets things done. Are the dishes being washed or are you doing the dishes? I find doing things without attachment of self, things just get done without mental resistance. In martial arts giving up self and following others makes movement efficient. In doing what we love we find the zone there seems to be no sense of self, yet self is whole, in harmony with movement without resistance. Movement gives birth to stillness, stillness gives birth to movement, who can be still as mountain and move like a great river. -
The inner smile the way we do it is that there is no physical expression on ones face. Using intention we bring the energy of thankfulness and a smile to the specific organ. To release happy hormones one can slap the back of the leg behind the knee with weight on the side you are not slapping then switch sides. I think it is all positive to give thanks to our bodies.

When we reach realization that all things are empty it is easy to see how mind attaches thoughts to things. The thing just is so saying thing is bad, good, living, dead or any attachment it does not change the thing, we are actual only seeing our own mind. When we realize mind itself is the limiting function to not being able to know our true selves we give up thoughts, give up knowledge become better people. This power is transferable to others

I thought karl was a troll too by joining a Taoist site trying to push Greek philosophy that is in opposition with creation, man against nature kind of stuff. It turns out he is trying to verify his own thoughts not actual based on anything, any action can be verified by the mind.
-
Very well put. We come from the unknown, return to the unknown, there is nothing to be known. People who fear the unknown just forgot where they came from.
-
Nothing has been created. This nothing has a direction that is observable in nature uncontrived.

Seriously, No source so no God this means philosophically you do not agree with your own paradigm. Being free is far from being conditioned which you seem to be talking about.
