A lot a Egyptologists would dispute the shamanic nature of the religion ... because they don't understand it .. but putting this aside a few things are clear. The methods would involve a) contemplating death + after death states b ) ritual including gesture (mudra) and the use of incense c) dream state work d) chanting/ repetition of verses and so on. I don't know about the use of drugs although they had a good medical knowledge and used herbs and so on. I'm interested in the way in which the Sem priest wraps himself in animal skin. This is a recuring theme which appears in what is called the Sed festival - the king goes through this at his jubilee (usually after 30 year reign) where he wraps himself up to be 'reborn' or renewed, also there is a symbol related to Anubis (the god of embalming) called Imy-Ut ('he who is in his wrappings'). It seems like a kind of cocooning which allows internal transformation to occur. I don't know if other traditions have this.

One of the reasons I'm doing this is because, like many others before, I thought Santi was deluded, a huckster, or worse. After taking KAP 1, I no longer thought so. I went on a retreat last year and lost contact with KAP. After some time, the cosmos is suggesting I get back into it. I'm not one to argue with the cosmos. Besides, I want to see where this goes. Things I've experienced so far, on my second round: 1. Increased energy sensations. The energy sensations feel much stronger, to nearly the same degree as solid objects. 2. Increased emotional response. Emotions tend to sweep through the whole body. I'm told this is a more feminine type of experience. Can be dangerous with anger, but not a problem given where I'm at generally. 3. Increased recovery time after sex. Also, less drainage. Overall, increased feeling of being healthy. 4. Increased spiritual insight. I must admit, this one puzzles me, because realization is more about seeing over and over again than anything else. But I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. 5. Increased feelings of bliss, especially on the weekends. 6. Increased inner heat and tolerance to cold. I also noticed that I've been feeling more "off" in the morning, but was able to determine that this was because of dehydration. 7. Increased incidence of lucid dreaming and dream recall. I won't say that KAP is the sole cause of these things as I have been cultivating Buddhist practice diligently for some years. But it is more like KAP somehow "speeds up" the process. I can't say that it is coincidence, either, as this happened last time I started KAP last spring. I can see the dangers as everything is amplified, the good and the bad.

Although I agree that no one can change who you truly are, others can help you find out who you truly are. I think that is my greatest problem. I do not know who I am and what I truly desire other than to end the war between my mind, body, and the world. I wonder in the end if that is all that anyone wants internal and external peace. The freedom to rest. I read in a book that Chuang Tzu (I believe it was him but I can not remember completly) lost his wife. He said that his wife had just lain down to rest and that to mourn his wife as she rested would be wrong and contesting nature. I personally thought this signified more than just that Chuang Tzu did not fear death as the book I was reading stated but that death was the ultimate peace. I view sleep as a peaceful and rewarding and the fact that to go to sleep your body puts your mind in a peaceful state, or sort of neutral state. This gave me another idea that maybe that as we strive to reach higher planes of thought and spirituality we are only reaching for a simple peace. Like, if you spend all day in a calm mood and doing things that feel good and that are good for you you sleep and dream much better than if you were having a horrible day doing things you do not enjoy. I just want to be able to sleep peacefully when my time to rest comes. Oh, sorry for that I got a bit carried away with my thoughts.

So about a week ago I started trying to follow the tien tao chi kung correspondance course. Before that I had been working on manipulating my dreams and almost reached the point where I could choose the subject. Also remembering usually 2 or more dreams every night. After I started the chi kung exercises however for some reason I either stopped remembering or stopped having my dreams (which is unlikely). While It's just a correlation I can't think of any other reasons that my dream memory would have changed. Has anyone else had experienced something similar when starting practices? With dreams or other things? Thanks in advance.

You may notice sleeping in the day will make you dream more.. Or if you stay up and sleep in the morning. It gets really whacky when people you dont expect show up in them
-
Quite the opposite happens to me. If I do my energy practices and meditations I will usually dream something. On the odd occasion I may even receive a teaching in my dreams. Have you asked your instructor about this? (S)he may have some answers... James

I don't think so. Your mind is a product of your ego. It's not the same as your brain. The aim of silencing your mind, one of the higher goals of Taoism, is to eliminate the mind. Once your mind is silenced, there is nothing to watch. Ultimately the mind is nothing but a self created dream and will be gone once you die, but Tao will go on regardless of whether anyone tries to watch it or not. If you think Tao is something playing in your mind that you can watch, I guess that is practicing. You can do Taoist practices, but you cannot practice the Tao; you can only try to live in harmony with it. Eric Yudelove

If you close your eyes, or keep them open since it doesn't matter, and remember a fond memory. It will be vivid, you can probably remember it vividly not just visually but possibly emotionally and tactically as well. You are visualizing except you are recalling a memory. When you dream, you're visualizing too. Visualizing is just using the 6th sense, the mind. If you close your eyes again but this time instead of remembering try to imagine something in very vivid detail. A scene perhaps of a beautiful beach with the sun setting on the horizon, or whatever scene you wish. Now add yourself except your body is perfectly translucent and radiating white-golden light. Your body is perfectly pure, all channels are open, all chakras are balanced. Keep this image steady and relax into that state. This sort of visualization has obvious pragmatic purposes if you analyze. One advantage over relaxation is that you won't fall asleep. An advantage over non-visual focus is that it's easier to specify what you're intending, and easier to notice when you're falling astray from your goals.

Haven't been here for a while but thought I'd add my two cents, so to speak. If it came to you in a dream then you should consider yourself lucky. My understanding is that such teachings are transmitted from other beings and manifest in the subconscious of a person with a corresponding 'frequency' thus allowing for the teaching to appear, if you will, in one's slumber. Whether you know this being in their physical form is irrelevant; such method of transmission allows for one to have teachers/students without the need for them to find you, or vice versa. The mudra probably felt different the following day because the energy of it developed. It's perhaps more likely that it was the peculiarity of the mudra being performed in public or the energy that it transduced/manipulated that caused the lady to look - as opposed to her look generating some hocuspocus (your average member of the public has little energy capabilities, in my experience at least). Now, to address the matter of secrecy, one should not fear doing one's practices in public, unless one is doing something far beyond the acceptance of the puritanical aftermath that still perpetuates throughout 'Christian' societies - sexual practices would be an obvious example. Spiritual practices are in their nature a very personal thing, that is something no-one can deny, and their existence is necessary for the development of energies/virtues/soul/spirit or whatever one's spiritual tradition elicits. It is this very reason, however, that means that one should never neglect their practices whether in public or not. Spiritual work is of utmost importance and the petty whines of the ego(s) should not be fed. Ideally it will be a 24 hours a day mission and joy. (Needless to say, how far you take your spiritual work is dependant entirely on your own motivations/aspirations... There's plenty of hobbyists out there.) Do not be mistaken that I cannot advocate telling everyone, arguably anyone, what you have been taught. Teachings are transmitted from teacher to student for the sole purpose of being used by the student to develop their being for the benefit of all living creatures. It is for you and no one else. If someone is worthy to receive it then you will know in your heart. Until that time, brother, keep up the practice and see where it takes you Love, light and happiness, James

Whoa, black smoke... "pain body" ... and golden light?
Sunya replied to Mizu's topic in General Discussion
you identify with your body, and responded with fear.. that fear then created your experience of being dragged since in the dream state all is mind. you can try to contemplate the impermanence of the physical body.. how it will die and decay one day, maybe visualize this happening as you lie down, completely let go of all aspects of the body by relaxing and visualize body as pure white light. maybe that'll help. what do you mean by afterlife? there is no after-life, this is all life, where can you point the separation? there are different bodies of expression but there is no 'you', that's the ego talking. yes yes, surrender, and do meditate by resting in pure basic presence, or the awareness that is prior to all experience, thought, sensation. you should do this formally by sitting but also extend throughout the day in class, while walking, while talking, while breathing. be mindful of every sensation and don't get caught up in thoughts. always take a step back and observe the field of awareness. that might be too difficult if you are overly absorbed in thoughts.. so, if so, you should do shamata (concentration) and vipassana (insight) meditations. This is a great site to explore - http://kennethfolkdharma.wetpaint.com/page/1st+Gear keep going! -
I just had a visit by the aboriginal dream walker from U lo roo. The convicts that were forced to inhabit ausralia call it ayers rock. Mao shan practice....Thunder magics from Max Christensen. We practiced whirl wind palm and taught about twenty Teenagers from the highschool Bagua. Sasha even put on a show at the local theatre, four dances did twenty three palm changes... Very mesmerizing those hips moving in circles for hours..... Reminds me of the time I got a body blessing from Kali. Whrilwind bagua I still think about that day the we got ahold of the wind in the class. A few summers later I ran into a dust devil and ran with it. I covered three miles in about two minutes. But the whirl wind techniques I have written down in a book of vows. Max doesn't care anymore...not since they built my monastery I pretty much do what I want. Yeah I have my own monastery

Whoa, black smoke... "pain body" ... and golden light?
Guest replied to Mizu's topic in General Discussion
when your own veils get very permeable there is a mirroring between beings.Like attracts like. We kind light up each others problems by matching similar frequency or color or patterns. People do this all the time, but through the mind and so matching takes the form of dream or pictures without ever being aware of why those pictures came up. When the veils get thinner the energy that the thought forms/dreams/pictures was based on become visible in it's unfiltered form. often there's a mixing the real perception of energy and mind matter as representation of energy. In the end it doesn't matter how the truth is viewed, as images, color, light or sound. It all has the same source. when the veils get thin there is access to vast information and many ability in this life and from many other. Only you can say what it means for you -

OKAY... WHOA..... guys. I just got REALLY sleepy after typing this. So I decided to take a nap. I put my head down for what must of been 20 mintues, and then the dream beagan. It was me, outside of my body, looking at my body laying in bed, and all of a sudden I felt INTENSE fear like, I thought I was going to die. I was being DRAGGED/PULLED towards my closet across the floor, almost like I was A TRAIN, this HUGE magnetic pull. My feet were tingling and on fire when I woke up. Dudes, it was like how in kunlun bliss it says " surrender to your divine flow " or when eckhart tolle was being "sucked into the void and a voice said 'resist nothing' or ever heard "go with the flow of the universe" anyoneeeeee experience anything like this?? Should I stop resisting this fear of death in these moments and "go with the flow" ? I'm afriad I'll die in my sleep. which might be a good thing as I am tremendously suffering right now. (I being my ego, aka pain body aka illusions) but what if I dont wake up and end up being pulled into the afterlife, leaving my body? scared, confused, mizu edit...so i looked up the direction I was being VIOLENTLY pulled in on google maps and it appears to point from santa barbara, CA to SOUTHEAST which ends up being the south of africa, cape town area... the odd thing is, that looks like where all the original land masses originated and 'fit' together like a puzzle... uhhh maybe I'm looking too much into this but if thats the case, thats the source of all life aka the begining formation of our very planet? who knows :| maybe I'm just mumbling -
All: thanks for your encouraging posts and advice! I'll continue my research on this topic: The irritation which I reported in my initial post from the gum through the palate is almost gone now, so I will probably soon continue with more of experiment 2. I will let you know how it goes (i.e. if I dream up a new experiment or once I have been to the dentist next time and convey her verdict). Yes, it's a great (and long ) thread - I did consider posting there too, but I felt that the discussion had gotten very much into what kind of formula to apply to the teeth rather than methods of using intent and qi which is what I am trying to investigate.

A third eye technique, anyone tried this?
Encephalon replied to That Guy's topic in General Discussion
After pouring over a pile of literature on brow chakra "third eye" psychology, I would guess that one acquires the ability to synthesize the sum total of all sensory input, memory, knowledge base, formal education and life experience into a highly refined reservoir of awareness that is radically accessible via a highly developed intuition. Maybe I'm just projecting wishful thinking, but I imagine (and dream of) the ability to respond and adapt to any situation with absolute skillfulness, compassion, and spontaneity. I'm not too interested in the metaphysical musings and conjecture; let me know what I can do with my nervous system. -
I was also high on THC (marijuana) and ORMUS so I was acutely self-aware/self conscious ie paranoia. lol. If there's one thing I am probably most afraid of when it comes to the paranormal it's alien abductions. Ghosts, monsters, etc, don't freak me out as much. It feels like I've heard these voices too, like in the movie. I've seen and experienced things whjich are similar but more in the dream state or the sleep paralysis state. Or whatever they were. It can be seen as the same type of hypnosis. That also might explain how I listen a lot to psychedelic trance music which is usually themed with ETs and mysteriousness of ancient ETs in the dark mystical/mythical traditions and futuristic alien space age technology, especially a lot of the dark psytrance/downtempo ambient-psy much I am freaked out by it because some of them have some of the weird sounds these same aliens make, and the ominous freaky hypnotic vibes and melodies associated. Ever since I was a child I was most freaked out by aliens, ever since I saw material about them on TV. It feels like those voices are embedded into my memory somewhere in de ja vu lang, like I said it feels like, archetypal even.

Easy Ways To Get Rid of Negative Energy and Build Positive Energy
Andrei replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
1) Be impeccable with your word, speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love. 2) Don't take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others do and say is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others you won't be the victim of needless suffering. 3) Don't make ASSUMPTIONS. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstanding, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement you can completely transform your life. 4) Always do your BEST. Your best is going to change from moment to moment, it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance simply do your best, and you will avoid self judgment, self abuse and regret. -

YES!!! Great stories! Why do you think I spent nearly 105,000 dollars to learn the medicine. And that's why Chiro's and MD's should NOT do acupuncture after a 200 hour certification. I have a FOUR year Master's degree and I am still learning. Pulse taking is an art and a science. I have: predicted baby's sex, felt the iron levels in blood, know when and how much a person has eaten, felt prostate issues, detected cancer in my patient's colon, know when a person has had an argument in the last 24 hours, can differentiate between an ex smoker and current smoker or child of a smoker, can tell you how you dream and what about, felt genetic heart valve issues, felt what type of relationship a person is in energetically and emotionally, detected an aortic aneurysm, can tell when you've last had sex, nailed a person on stimulant use, drug use and abuse, etc... And I am just a beginner. I have been around Master pulse takers who can tell you some even more unbelievable things!

Perhaps you need to consider classic pop songs? (even this one is a cover of an older song) Some girls will, some girls won't Some girls need a lot of lovin' and some girls don't Well, I know I've got the fever but I don't know why Some say they will and some girls lie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8RQbdOYl_s They are ALL different, get out there and put a face to your dream girl, you can do it.

Opening your Third Eye with Youtube
Eternal_Student replied to Encephalon's topic in General Discussion
All this talk about the pineal gland inspired me to visit my inner guru on the mountain. I spent about 40 minutes meditating this morning and opened it back up again. During that time I saw about 100 plus visions and heard/watched at least 15 of my neighbors during their morning routine. Things were moving so fast that it took everything I had to just keep a one pointed focus during all of the transitions. It then moved into a semi lucid dream state where I worked through about 3 dreams with cognition. Then I closed it back up and got grumpy because I had to actually go to work instead of meditate all day. At least it was only a day of acupuncture patients... -
I'm not ignoring anyone. I've read every post here several times. I don't know about you all, but I am taking this quite seriously. The whole "listen to the divine" and "go with the flow" and all that stuff is good, and it's something that I've been working at every since I came across taoism (which I got into shortly before I joined this forum, back in September 08) Again, it's not like I'm not incorporating this stuff into my life or practice. It's that I'd ALSO like to incorporate stuff that will also get me what I want. Does that sound selfish? I don't care. Do you think it's something I should have gotten over if I had really been doing serious work for that long? I don't really care. I've dedicated every waking moment to this stuff, and even my moments sleeping (lucid dream exploring), and, no offense to anybody, but this wu wei stuff again isn't getting me where I need to go. HOWEVER, I DO like taoist methods of energy work, like stuff I've read of B.K. Frantzis. But Frantzis is just as "tiptoe around the psychic power" issue as everyone else. The whole, "don't play around with things, it won't give you spiritual advancement", "don't do stuff to tempt the ego", "psychic powers may or may not be real" and all that other stuff. I'm looking for stuff that will work. Sorry you feel like I'm not giving you enough love 3bob (or anyone else that has responded to this thread) but if all you are going to tell me is, "psychic powers aren't the point" or "learn to be like a cat" well, duly noted, your job is done Sorry if that sounds kind of jerk-ish but.... at this point, I really don't care I do really like cats, by the way, though I do live in a college dorm (working on that mundane transformation), so no can do on the cat front.
