Ok...so I'm beginning to question what exactly Authoritarianism is. I had always thought Totalitarianism was Authoritarianism on steroids. However, I recently found a reference on the web which maintains it is its own rather distinct brand of political makeup. So here is a link to the reference I found. One surprising thing from the paper I found - although in retrospect it does make sense - is that Authoritarianism usually has quite broad populist support - contrary to what one would normally think.
