11:33 Posted June 4, 2009 Hi everyone,  I am wondering about Taoist alchemy methods. I've been practicing chi-kung since 2001, and now I'm learning about Taoist Alchemy methods. I am interested in pursuing them, especially transmuting jing to chi (sperm)... However I hear a lot about the potential danger in this. So I would like to discuss potential pitfalls.  Are there any methods that are known to be safe?  Who of you have been doing sexual retention and internal alchemy for ohhhh at least 6 months, preferably a year, or more preferably 10 years?  Is anyone who has been doing this for years having the doctor check their prostate health etc?  I have the book Taoist Yoga from the library, and would like to know if anyone out there is using these methods?  Are there any methods to do these practices while still staying sexually active?  Ok, enough questions for now  All the Best, Alex

Brother K Posted June 4, 2009 Thank you Xeno for the link to such a great thread. I have been on here for a week or so now and I am still going through all the back post. I have been working with the basic alchemy exercises now and in a month I am going to begin in earnest. Right now I am staying with a friend in his living room. But at the end of June I am getting a apt. with a friend, so I will have my own space to work in. Â I also advise watching Darin's youtube videos to hear his experienced views on Taoist alchemy. Creation Posted June 4, 2009 If you are interested in Taoist inner alchemy, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE to read the posts of Dao Zhen on this forum. He is an initiate of Longmen Pai (Dragon Gate sect) living on Wudang mountain studying and practicing alchemy (at last report...he hasn't posted here in a while). I just about guarantee he knows more about Taoist inner alchemy in a strict traditional sense than anyone else here. Maybe there are a few exceptions, but they don't share as much, whereas Dao Zhen has very generously explained a great many things that you simply will not find elsewhere (that I have seen). Here is a start (I know it's a lot but this stuff is pure gold): http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=4793 http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=6162 http://www.thetaobums.com/Eternal-Way-t5928.html http://www.thetaobums.com/Union-with-Tao-t5971.html http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=6181 Â The thing about alchemy is there are SO MANY "side paths" that give powerful experiences and results, but are not the true Way. For example, just about every sexual practice (no disrespect to xenolith, who has clearly experienced incredible things): every traditional Taoist source I can find is clear that most sexual practices amount to a whole lot of nothing, and the good ones (which certainly do exist) are only an adjunct to the non-sexual cultivation and are not necessary. Â A (relatively) accessible classic Taoist manual is The Book of Balance and Harmony ( http://www.amazon.com/Book-Balance-Harmony...k/dp/1590300777 ). It discusses the unity of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, the theory and practice of inner alchemy, and goes into detail about what is true alchemy, what is a side path, and what is a false path. But since it was translated by a non-initiate and was not exactly written to explain everything in detail to non-initiates Dao Zhen's stuff is the place to start. Â Good luck. Happy reading, happy cultivating, Tyler

This is true, alchemy does not require retention at all, and if retention is practiced it is a minor aspect of the cultivation. Retention just causes people to have different kinds of orgasms, so it's basically a type of energetic masturbation.
