Beliefs and Intent

If you don't understand the meaning, you're going to have a hard time with the words about it.

Logic and reason as well as rational communication is a part of all forms of Buddhism.

But... sometimes one cannot help but to speak over someones head. Look... I'm just saying... there are plenty that understand my writings. Because you and a few here do not? You think that you few are the end all be all judgement of clarity?

I'm sure I'll learn better communication abilities at school.

But seriously folks... stop trying to put me in your boxes!!

Just... ask questions and I'll try to clarify.

Kate,

What I meant was that my beliefs are not indoctrinated, they are insight. They are reflective of direct experience.

Peace!

"We may be seeing the beginnings of the reintegration of our culture, a new possibility of the unity of consciousness. if so, it will not be on the basis of any new orthodoxy, either religious or scientific. Such a new integration will be based on the rejection of all univocal understandings of reality, of all identifications of one conception of reality with reality itself. It will recognize the multiplicity of the human spirit, and the necessity to translate constantly between different scientific and imaginative vocabularies. It will recognize the human proclivity to fall comfortably into some single literal interpretation of the world and therefore the necessity to be continuously open to rebirth in a new heaven and a new earth. It will recognize that in both scientific and religious culture all we have finally are symbols, but that there is an enormous difference between the dead letter and the living word."

Robert Bellah - "Beyond Belief"

Eh... Sounds like new age stuff... nice intention, but does it lead to Buddhahood? I guess we shall see? The statement does seem to include dependent origination a bit.

There are very few people alive on this earth who can get away with calling Robert Bellah a New Ager in 90 seconds flat. My educated guess, however, is that this was just another flippant excuse for not thinking things through.

I think I need a wider context for this quote, the inspiration from which it springs. I need to understand the entire philosophy and perspective this comes from.

Buddha didn't come up with dogmas, he saw things as they are, and they are complicated but can be understood through study of Buddhas and meditation.

What you think of as indoctrination is actually insight.

Vajra, for the eleventeenth time, if you were a clear writer and communicator, it would be obvious to all. You wouldn't have to keep coming back that the problem is with others. Shit, man, I read Ken Wilber and understand what he's saying, and he's a bit more advanced than you, even though he's not a Norbutron. And you, Senator, are no Ken Wilber. :D

Your beliefs cannot be insight. They can only be insights. And just because you had them, it does not follow that they are true. They still remain your relative reality; having apprehended them in a meditative state does not confer them any truth. They can be true for you, but posting them on a forum doesn't convince anybody. Are you then claiming to be a Buddhist Prophet?

And lastly, many, many things in the world do not lead to Buddhahood. Why is that the test of anything?

Love,

My grammar has always been bad. I never finished high school due to going to many different schools in different states, thus loosing credits that I completed, and then having to get work to help out.

Anyway... My experiences are corroborated by Buddhist teachers throughout history. You just need to read more Tantra. :)

So, they are not merely relative to me.

Take care.

There are a handful of people that understand my writings on Buddhism, geography, and human ecology. I can choose to restrict my conversations about these subjects with my colleagues who are up to speed on the subject matter. If I choose to share my ideas with others, however, I am obliged to gear down somewhat and make essential principles comprehensible. I don't expect my 13 yr old daughter to understand postmodern geography, but if my intention is to share interesting ideas with her, the burden of communication falls on me, not her.

Your point as I see it is to argue that others are responsible for avoiding the communication pitfalls that are riddled throughout your posts. This is evidence (not proof) that sharing ideas is really not your concern, that a charitable meeting of minds is not truly your intention. Constructing intellectual scaffolding sounds more like the process you are engaged in.

I never finished high school either, but I did go on to get a graduate degree. You can't blame the state of your communication skills on that experience. Your communication skills are the way they are because you haven't had to take them seriously yet. Metaphysics online; does a fuzzier forum even exist?

Vajra, your grammar is bad because you don't think it's worth your time to improve it. That's all. Don't blame schooling or your past for it. It's that way because of your attitude toward it. You just don't think it matters and therefore do not spend time on it. The resources to learn proper grammar are plentiful and openly available, so there is no excuse.

My own opinion is that sometimes the wording you use is not the best, but the problems you create with your wordings are subtle and would take time to explain. I have no problem with your grammar myself. I enjoy good grammar, but if the thoughts are interesting, I will gladly take them with any grammar I can get them with. :) I do think you have a lot of very interesting thoughts, so I am not personally complaining about your grammar. I am just saying, if you want to improve it, you can. It's obvious that you are smart so there is nothing to stop you other than your own intent.
