Question: Old Indian wisdom - Plant wisdom

Recommended Posts

To the people that know about the Indian wisdom: (i don't know what the term is) :)

Is it true that some people were able to know which plants were good for what, let's just call it 'psychically' ?

And do you think this will be possible for people now also to do ?

At least there is Ayurvedic knowledge of whether a plant is:

-sattvic, meaning it helps meditation and "saint-like" thinking

-rajasic, meaning it is (hyper)active and stimulating, helping in daily chores and succeeding in material life, but leading to aggression in excess

-tamasic, which is grounding and, in excess, dulls the mind and makes one more attached to pleasures etc.

Ginger is considered very sattvic, cardamom is also, chillies are rajasic, onions and everything that's hard to digest, also stale foods and fast foods and such are tamasic.

Some herbs that help meditation are camphor, sandalwood and gokshura. All sattvic foods such as white rice and mangoes are good for promoting clear meditation. If you're interested, Vasant Lad has some good books on the subject, "The Yoga of Herbs" being my favorite herb book.

Actually, Native Americans, both North and South, were, and still are, very good at finding natural remedies found in Nature. Sad that much of the North NA's knowledge in this area is being lost but it is still going strong in South America.

Be well!

If you are a Yin person (born in water year, ruled by water, belonging to a negative stem or born in years ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9) and well-developed spiritually you'll be easily connected to the Yin side of reality. Plants are truly Yin beings and host a spirit as well. Communicate with them and they will tell you whether they hold a cure for a certain natural imbalance or not.

Other times by observing animals and their spiritual connection with plants, humans can have access to that knowledge:

Nice post. I do agree with the above even though I'm not really 'into' it.

Indian knowledge of plants goes so immensly deep, they make differentiations between plants and subgroups where we dont even know about they exist or even think there the same plant. The rainforrest is there pharmacy. They transmit the knowledge over generations. If we ever wonna reach that divine level of plantknowledge we have to go live with the plants again instead of from the plants.

What do we do ? We cut tree's in South America so we can have nice chairs and fancy tables to put in our garden. We also grow cows there so we can eat MCmenu's (trademark). Together with the tree's we kill whole ecosystems. This is not the right direction to achieve plant knowledge.

There are western herbalists that have fine tuned their sensitivities to the effects of plants, where they can sample small amounts and understand the energetics of the plants, how it is affecting their systems and what it would be good for. A blogger who shares plant wisdom very generously is Kiva Rose, who also teaches what you are describing.
