Lucky7Strikes Posted September 14, 2009 Any good books on Daoist/Buddhist altars? Such as rituals, the set up, tradition etc. Thank you! .
Trunk Posted September 14, 2009 I don't know any books, but have found that any choice of basics works well: - candle, incense or other burning stuff - bell - offerings: flowers, water, vegie foods - and of course whatever representation of your favorite enlightened help, whether deity, human, etc.
Zhuo Ming-Dao Posted September 14, 2009 Here you go: Taoist Ritual in Chinese Society and History by John Lagerwey is a heavy, academic, and thoroughly detailed text. Chapter three of this book has more info on the topic of Taoist alters then you will find anywhere else that I know of. And he explains all of how to arrange alters through feng shui, to seal them through ritual, and many other wonderful magical proscriptions and invocations. If you are interested in serious Taoist magic (and not New Age masquerading as Taoism), then you should defiantly pick up this book. http://www.amazon.com/Taoist-Ritual-Chines...7168&sr=8-
Yoda Posted September 14, 2009 I'd recommend contacting a Taoist teacher about setting one up. If you do it wrong, the incense and offerings can attract the wrong sort.
