DalTheJigsaw123 Posted September 23, 2009 Thoughts on Chanting? (During Meditation?)
Chen Posted September 23, 2009 Depending on the type of meditation. In my school it is silent ,only focusing in dan tien. In other types of meditation it is known,(I never practiced), that a certain sound or combination of it are used to vibrate certain chakras. If you can be more specific, someone else can answer to you.
Vajrahridaya Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) It's very helpful. In my practice we have visualization with mantra and mudra. These integrate action, with contemplation of the meaning of the words and visualization which includes colors and the idea of seeing them as natural manifestations of enlightened awareness. So when one sees colors in regular day to day life which everything is made of, we see everything as integrated with meditative awareness, sound vibrating the center openings, mudra opening up energy channels in contemplative movement and the experience that all manifestation is the reflection of our own meditative awareness. So for a Vajrayana and Dzogchen practitioner, it's very helpful! Not to mention it hones intention with the meaning of the chants. Guest C Yu C He Taiji Posted September 23, 2009 In my school we chant the first two lines of the Dao De Jing (dao ke dao fei chang dao, ming ke ming fei chang ming) in order to stay on the path and gradually understand the true virtues of the Dao as our astral body is filled with the chants/thoughts. Gerard Posted September 23, 2009 No need. Better be mindful of your breathing. Read this:  http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors.../breathmed.html  This is the bread and butter (and starting point) of Vipassana meditation as taught by Gautama Buddha. Nothing beats this system.
thelerner Posted September 23, 2009 Chanting good. A chant can be an audio chi gung, when the vowels & vibrations are right and the meanings are sacred its a transcendental style of practice. Â Michael
