About 20 years ago I first saw this, allegedly an old photo from 1890 from the city I grew up in, Ventura CA. The source was allegedly from the AZ desert (I'm guessing that is maybe 200 miles away). I always found this fascinating. There are some stories about this kind of thing found in mining efforts in diff parts of the world. But, it could be a fake. Who knows.

Normally buns at the local bakery 80c .  Easter time they  half as big ,  got a cross on them and $1.50

True that.  But if I allowed a potential opponent to get that close to me I would have made a serious mistake.
