The famous "Face on Mars" - it's come a long way from a shadowy charicature from the 1970s!

Expansion, Half Lifeย ย
Bronze with Electricity | 28 x 35 x 17 in | 71 x 89 x 43 cm

From the moment we are born, the world tends to have a container already built for us to fit inside: A social security number, a gender, a race, a profession or an I.Q. I ponder if we are more defined by the container we are in, rather than what we are inside. Would we recognize ourselves if we could expand beyond our bodies? Would we still be able to exist if we were authentically 'un-contained'?

โ€œThe statue is dated to the roman imperial era, around 100 CE or so. At the same site, inscriptions in both Greek and Sanskrit were found.

ย

Recently, a statue of the Buddha was unearthed in Egypt. It's not uncommon to find buddhist artifacts in europe and the med, but what's remarkable here is that this statue was crafted by local Egyptian craftsmen using local Mediterranean stone.โ€

7 hours ago, silent thunder said:

โ€œTo see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.โ€

Nice,

't reminded me of:

Quote

"Nor is it to be thought...that man is either the oldest or the last of earth's masters, or that the common bulk of life and substance walks alone. The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, they walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They had trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread. By Their smell can men sometimes know Them near, but of Their semblance can no man know, saving only in the features of those They have begotten on mankind; and of those are there many sorts, differing in likeness from man's truest eidolon to that shape without sight or substance which is Them. They walk unseen and foul in lonely places where the Words have been spoken and the Rites howled through at their Seasons. The wind gibbers with Their voices, and the earth mutters with Their consciousness. They bend the forest and crush the city, yet may not forest or city behold the hand that smites. Kadath in the cold waste hath known Them, and what man knows Kadath? The ice desert of the South and the sunken isles of Ocean hold stones whereon Their seal is engraven, but who hath seen the deep frozen city or the sealed tower long garlanded with seaweed and barnacles? Great Cthulhu is Their cousin, yet can he spy Them only dimly. Iรค! Shub-Niggurath! As a foulness shall ye know Them. Their hand is at your throats, yet ye see Them not; and Their habitation is even one with your guarded threshold. Yog-Sothoth is the key to the gate, whereby the spheres meet. Man rules now where They ruled once; They shall soon rule where man rules now. After summer is winter, after winter summer. They wait patient and potent, for here shall They reign again."

Finally made it to theย Hilma Af Klimt & Piet Mondrian show at Tate Modern. Very cool. Nicely curated showing parallels and divergence of development for both artists. All happening with Theosophy in the background - both artists were members of Theosophical Lodges and had contact with Rudolph Steiner and others.

Mondrian. Note theosophically-significant belly buttons.

A 13th Century CE; buddhist statue, from China; contains perfectly preserved remains of a mummified buddhist monk, called Liuquan, who lives around 1100s CE. It was found sitting on bundle of cloth covered in chinese inscriptions, may have practiced 'Self-Mummification' to prepare for life after death. Process to prepare his body entailed a strict diet of teas and poisonous foods, that made the body resistant to maggots upon death. The sculpture preserved in the Drents Museum - The Netherlands
