VAJ posture: Tibetian Yoga Masters

Recommended Posts

who the hell is master sheng yen lu? you're reading chinese sources for tibetan buddhism? that's like asking an american to teach to you native american shamanism  anyway this guy isn't authorized and apparently is just a cult leader. maybe he hangs out with Dorje Chang Buddha Super King Bling VIII ?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lu_Sheng-yen

anyway nobody is denying that the Vajra posture is important Drew, really. it's just you're giving it too much credit. it's just a means.. not an end. and there are other means as well. you're stuck. move beyond your attachment. stop sucking the thumb. :)

Thank you. With so much terminology mixed up from different traditions, along with no sort of monk or nun title, the "translation" felt really suspect.

Lol, close to half of rape reports are falsified...and I find this accusation rather skeptical too.
SHC, also married with children, became a Lu follower in 1991 and first received Lu's "blessings" at the Redmond temple in 1996. She lived in the women's dorm during eight trips she made to the temple between 1997 and 1999. Next door was Lu's office and living quarters with a bedroom.

When Lu hugged her during one meeting, SHC says, she could feel he had an erection. It was then he allegedly mentioned the body blessing as a potential cure.

Lu had SHC perform oral sex on him and a week later had sexual intercourse with her, insisting he was saving her life, SHC claims. She had sex with him at least six more times in 1997, she says, and numerous times in 1999.

Call me experienced, but I have a hard time believing a grown woman would have sex with some dude for 2 years, under the belief that it was all for "spiritual healing." Really??? Or did she know it was "just sex" the whole time - and only got pissed off once he dumped her or her hubby found out?

Just sayin'...I'm sure he has his side of the story on this charge too. Unfortunately, that side typically never gets aired in defense.

well to be fair Dalai Lama told Tao & I that china & japan had tantric masters before tantra was brought in to tibet.

yes, true indeed. China got some Tantric texts from India (7th century) before Tibet (8th century), and then later from China to Japan (early 9th century). but Vajrayana didn't really take off in China and died out fairly quickly. In Japan its still around, as i'm sure you know. Glenn did mention interest in Mikkyo in his books...

I'd trust a Japanese master of Vajrayana, but Chinese? I don't know. There was never a lineage of Tantra in China... and especially the guy that Drew quoted. if you see his wikipedia page, its obvious he's a fraud. I'm not saying the info he posted is wrong though, i'm sure he just read it somewhere. I'm just saying watch your sources. :)

Highest Yoga Tantra and Mahamudra

Is about comprehension, deep wisdom...

Yes, Lotus posture is the..."physical best" posture to get into, though not completely necessary for enlightenment or Buddhahood.

Also, mastering the Lotus, does not guarantee Buddhahood. It doesn't even guarantee a great future rebirth if infected with lots of pride, because Buddhism is really about the humbling view of D.O./Emptiness. This is the 1st, not the 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Not even the 8th, though they are all connected from the base up or top down at this point... ok getting beyond the point here...

"Right view", is highly necessary and really the true ultimate necessity for liberation, not blissful experiences, body rushes, energy transferences, making hunnies in the BK lounge wet and drooling. Yes, that has it's own merit, but it's not the merit of complete and total liberation according to the Buddha way, this only leads to high level pleasure realms which don't guarantee freedom from lower rebirth, even after eons of enjoyment.

Though, indeed... if you are capable, Full Lotus is worth mastering, but not nearly as much as right view,

....which is deeply subtler than energy.

"Right View" includes... but fully transcends all the powers of the Gods.

Drew, what is your opinion on which foot should be on top?

You see the Tibetans putting the right foot on top whereas for example the Indians do it the other way.

What are the implications of that?

Switch it up, otherwise you'll stretch your legs unevenly.

My take - from years of sports, working out, etc - proper form and posture is absolutely important, but that alone doesnt make everything fun and worthwhile, the deeper comprehension is more fundamental. But - taoist approach I've used for years and years before I ever knew what taoism was, if the shit works, use it - keep an open objective mind but dont lose sight of the things that are going to get you from point a to point b. Gongfu :)

yeah Joeblast is correct -- this is Isothermic Ionization -- read my Hempel Effect post for the underlying PRINCIPLES -- and ideally true meditation means you don't even feel the body because it's so full with electromagnetic fields -- nirvikalpa samadhi or in Taoism it's just called the "Emptiness." It's the most "advanced" state of meditation yet it's only the BEGINNING for true meditation (be it astral travel or deeper healing, etc.).

So all this stuff on taobums is just beginner joke fun -- about body positions and about conceptual philosophy, etc. Real masters don't have the TIME for all this writing because the spiritual and the mundane do not mix. The modern practitioners fall back into the mundane reality because we live in such evil times -- any real energy developed gets sucked back into other peoples' lower chakras for their evil use. haha.

http://springforestqigong.com -- Chunyi Lin went 49 days in full-lotus non-stop!! NO SLEEP, NO WATER, NO FOOD.

So that's the real deal -- he did this on the mountain that is the foundation for Taoism in China -- with Master Zhang and it's considered part of Tibet.

I just want to put in here that with all the sht that is thrown Drew's way over a long time here, he has never lashed back and has held his cool. That alone earns him credit and shows he has gone a ways down his path with positive fruits.

Especially when I sit in full-lotus! haha. I mean it's a total hallucination that full-lotus posture is.

hey can you post your awesome full-lotus photo again which I commented on BEFORE I knew you did shakti transmission? haha.

Still I did enjoy your spontaneous kundalini standing awakening vid posted recently -- with your arms up and your neck going back and forth.

The music -- well it does hurt the ears -- whites have less neuromelanin in their inner ears and therefore have less tolerance for sound amplitude.

But nonwestern music has secret qualities detailed in THE HEMPEL EFFECT

Hey Drew,

Dont mean to spoil the fun, but I think the Zen Buddhists got something going when they said that every thought that arises in the mind has its seed in conceptuality - every single thought. Even those that make us think what the REAL DEAL is.. People are so easily distracted with forms nowadays. No matter how great the achievements or levels of attainment, there is still decay and death. Even the Supreme Ones have to pass away.

You think 49 days in full meditative absorption with all the works is the real deal? Man, there are some yogis up in the Himalayas who can do these for years, with only a loin cloth for company!! (Read 'Autobiography of A Yogi'). You can point a camera at their physical appearance and *shoot* but when the picture comes out, their form does not show. Even then, these light beings still have subtle defilements. So dont be so gullible.

Train the mind. Train the mind. This the foundation for THE real deal, which is deal-less, meaning it transcends all forms. When the mind is trained, the body follows. Hence conceptual philosophy has its place. There is some truth in the saying, "Its all in the mind"!

Be good!

the spiritual and the mundane do not mix.

Of course they do Drew.

Your view is highly dualistic.

Your experience of falling back is not what happens to everyone. As well, what you may think is falling back is merely someone just starting to integrate. Your renunciation is basically just a process you are going through, but the true realization is neither renunciation of, or identification with the world.

I just want to put in here that with all the sht that is thrown Drew's way over a long time here, he has never lashed back and has held his cool. That alone earns him credit and shows he has gone a ways down his path with positive fruits.

No, he reacted to me and Vajrasattva quite negatively for a while there, full on attacked me even.

You must have missed that.

Yes, that's impressive and all that. But, that won't lead to liberation.

Your view is askew drew.

:P

I used to think much like you many years ago. I used to fight to get into full lotus and got so proud when I did and puffed up when I could maintain it for an extended period.

Yes, lots of bliss, yes... lots of transcendent experiences and visions, blah, blah, blah... all very good!

But, without the "right view"... all just fodder for rebirth in a Prideful God realm.

If you're looking for dirt on mainstream spiritual teachers, few sources are better than: http://www.strippingthegurus.com/

Warning: Don't believe everything you read, especially when the author begins speculating. Eg. students being unable to say no if gurus ask for sex, chewing pan making Indians meditative, etc. (that second one cracks me up  )

That's what Dr. Zomb says too! And today from a regular contributor to my blog:

Abe said...

I was just thinking:

sitting in full lotus makes one eat less and less. At the same time, not only is one physically not hungry but also emotionally satisfied. Hence, there is literally nothing better to do than more full lotus. As a bonus, paranormal healing energy is effected by the practice and freely distributed to the one in need. In a way, full lotus is the holy grail, because almost all of social and ecological issues are a derivative of frantic activity and overeating. The solution to all our problems is insanely simply! Haha...

There is nothing better to do than more full lotus? That sounds exactly like everything else you've ever posted on the subject: There is nothing better than full lotus.

That sounds like an obsession, and an 'answer' to a question when all we really have is guesswork.

While I think that everyone agrees that the Full Lotus is powerful and brings forth a lot of potential, I think others are simply pointing out that everything you post seems to point out the SUPREME ULTIMATE!!! power of your VAJ position.

Capital -- first of all there's a

Misplaced Pronoun Modifier in your post. Can you find it? Can any one else?

Secondly I defer to Chunyi Lin on the full-lotus http://springforestqigong.com He says that 20 minutes of full-lotus is worth 4 hours of any other meditation practice. Chunyi Lin also says if you want to see if someone is a real master just see how long they can sit in full-lotus.

Now most people on this forum have no direct experience with Chunyi Lin but he does heal patients referred to him by doctors from the top hospital in the U.S. -- the Mayo Clinic. Chunyi Lin has also taught qigong to the doctors at the Mayo Clinic and he's co-authored a qigong chapter with Mayo clinic dr. Nina Mishek for a Mayo Clinic medical textbook.

Does that mean he's not really enlightened? SURE! haha. Whatever -- I mean really it's not for me to say! I'm not even qualified to be a real student of Chunyi Lin! haha. He has trained one other person to be a qigong master -- Jim Nance. Chunyi Lin told Jim Nance that he had to sit in full-lotus TWO HOURS NON-STOP EVERY NIGHT IN ORDER TO BE A QIGONG MASTER.

So I hope that gives you a better answer than guesswork.

Since guesswork is all WE really have! haha. hint hint.

Is guesswork really one word like Kraftwerk?

Please don't get OB-SESSED! or you might have an OBE from full-lotus fun.

etymology

The study of the origins of words. Theologians and preachers are sometimes obsessed with etymology, seeming to believe that where a word comes from tells us its real meaning. Linguists would say that how a word is used tells us its meaning! Where it is possible, in this case synchronic is preferable to diachronic study.

Awesome! Mind if I spread it all over the internet? Thanks in advance.

While I think that everyone agrees

Rather, you are correct in this, I should have said 'While we all agree that'.

Thanks, I should stop writing like that.

I would like to say, though, that your following post was still simply another regurgitation of the 'Some master says Full Lotus is supreme' statement I was discussing. That is what you need to fix, as you have repeated yourself quite often lately.
