Enlightenment for all.

Your body is connected to the universe, to god, through your imagination.

What ever you focus on in your mind will be given to you by the universe.

Focus on that which you hate, and that is what the universe will give you.

Focus on that which you love, and would love to have, and that is what the universe will give you.

Negative thoughts should never settle in your mind because if they do, they will settle in your reality as well.

Find love in everything you do, find happiness in everything you do, find joy in everything you do and the universe will continue to show you what you want to see.

Don't question what you DON'T have, IMAGINE HAVING WHAT YOU WANT!

Allthough good advice in and of itself, it has limited use in people's everyday lives.

We all know there are no problems, only situations. And that the only thing that is real is love.

But when we realize we are getting angry, we're allready angry. Philosophy is of no use. You are not what you feel anyway. That's just what you are experiencing in that moment.

Letting go of thoughts and emotions is better.

And if we cannot let go, its also ok.

The best is to transform the feeling. But that is the hardest.

Actually, the only thing that is not ok is beat yourself up about what you're experiencing.

If you find yourself focusing with negative intent, its just the Universe focusing on something with negative intent. But that is not the same as the Cosmos becoming negative.

Depends on what you mean by "negative" IMO. Eg. If being oblivious to the suffering of others counts as positive, then I disagree. That can only lead to a Brave New World scenario. Or Thailand. :P

define suffering for me please.

Let me do it:

Physical and mental pain; birth, decay and death as well as attachment to material and immaterial phenomena due to annica's (impermanence) effect. Our nature and reality are not perfect, hence the reason for dukkha (suffering).

Greetings..

Physical and mental pain; birth, decay and death as well as attachment to material and immaterial phenomena due to annica's (impermanence) effect. Our nature and reality are not perfect, hence the reason for dukkha (suffering).

My experience differs, suffering is the attachment one has to those natural occurances.. nature and reality aren't perfect, 'suffering' is very much like whining about it..

Your body is connected to the universe, to god, through your imagination.

Not really, but it's fun.. the 'connection' is real, it's tangible, and immediately available for those who actually care..

Focus on that which you love, and would love to have, and that is what the universe will give you.

We are children of the Universe.. the Universe manifests our every desire exactly to the degree we actually believe it will.. this is a crucial understanding, because the only reason you don't get what you want, is you don't actually believe you will get it.. "talk is cheap".. "Faith without works is dead".. you 'say' you believe you will get a new car, but.. you just sit and wait.. IF you believed it, you would actually 'make it happen', even if it required work, remember the 'faith/works' thingy?..

Be well..

There's nothing more enjoyable than imagining oneself as the first human being ever to ponder original thoughts about the universe.

A toast to reinventing the spiritual wheel! All who've come before us, keep silent!!

Why try to change our thoughts?

Why struggle against what we are?

We ARE the universe, God, whatever word you like. We are exactly that each and every one.

The connection is much more pervasive than anything we could think up. It is me, it is you, it is us.

How could we possibly be anything else?

Our unique sensory apparatus evokes the whole ball of wax.

Without us, it does not exist. Without it, we do not exist.

Only we've been deeply conditioned to feel separate.

This is what Wu Wei is all about. There are negative feelings and there are positive feelings. They define each other. They come and go - always have and always will. Making an effort to change, suppress, or transform them is going against and is fruitless and will cause frustration. It simply means that what you are and what you feel is not enough. It means there is desire to be something else or feel something else. You will never be without negative feelings. To struggle against them only brings suffering. Suffering is not being in pain or being sad or any of that, suffering is the psychological pain we feel when we fight against those things. Suffering is not being what you are, it is wanting to be something other.

Accept the feelings, positive AND negative. Open up to them and welcome them. Feel them as deeply as you are able. Be aware - completely aware of how it feels physically, psychologically, just be with it. Don't worry, it will change soon enough, whether up or down. Growth comes from conflict and pain, not from pleasure and satisfaction.

The universe will always provide exactly what each of us needs, whether we recognize it or not. It will not always make us feel good or be what we think we want. The universe is absolutely perfect. It's just that up close, sometimes it seems chaotic and insofar as we are attached to things, the tendency toward change is painful. So I don't try to think in a certain way or imagine things as I want them. I try to be in the world as it is and do what needs to be done and what feels right. Acceptance brings a degree of peace, security, and freedom that otherwise is lacking for me.

Sorry to pontificate but this subject is really close to my heart.

YMMV of course....

This is BS! its not that "the universe gives you what you want"

Come on now, it more like "you come to terms with what you have". Which can be good, but lets face it, if people just become like this humanity will stop moving forward.

And go tell the starving people of the world "imagine your belly is full" , "imagine you have a fridge full of food!" and it will all be ok!

They ll tell you "gtfo!"

We cant fix problems like this by sitting around believing they ll just go away. Put your imagination to good use and imagine some way to fix the problem rather than imagine they dont exist, stop deluding yourself.

I m just gonna stop here, just reading/talking too much about this kinda half baked philosophy irritates me too much.

I'm with you here. This was once brought home to me by a professor lecturing on postmodernism who said "The only way to rightfully discuss the nature of God was in the presence of a dying child." Affluent western countries give their citizens a wide berth when it comes to masturbating about spiritual ideals.

Nevertheless, I am trying to keep my ego in check in this forum, and I frequently fail. Typing with compassion and "right speech" (part of the Buddhist 8-fold path) is something I frequently give myself permission to ignore, which means that I am not as good a communicator as I would like to be. I am frequently moved to hysterical anger and contempt with the stupidity, thoughtlessness, metaphysical indulgence and general lack of intellectual humility that is often expressed, and I should recognize this "trigger" for what it is and use it to diffuse my own anger. I've paid a high price for my own egotism, particularly when it comes to the world of ideas. Most of my life has been lived before the internet, so I have to evaluate how I am going to deal with the dark side of debate.

In the mean time, I wish everyone peace and harmony, and encourage people to pull their beloved heads out of their asses and get a library card. :o

If you don't like it when I ramble, then please do not read the following, it is not intended for you to read.

My definition of suffering would be; Existing in a state that you do not want/wish to.

So, for me to be "oblivious to the suffering of others" I would have to be concerned with my interpretation. The way I see suffering (I understand that nobody is entitled to agree with me) may differ from somebody else's suffering.

Ex.

(Person1)I don't like how money represents my value, understanding this reality would cause me to suffer because nearly everyone in my country embraces the idea of money=value.

(Person2)Those who live in happiness when it comes to money, are most likely very rich, and they love the idea of money=value.

Suffering is conditional, dependent on your interpretation of reality.

Now if I were Person2, and I loved the idea of money=value, I would assume that giving money to Person1 would relieve their suffering.

Now, Person2 has tried to help Person1 using materialist representation. Suffering is not Materialistic, suffering is the state of mind when you interpret material as negative.

If Person2 could make Person1 change the way he interprets money/value, then maybe his offer would help relieve the suffering, but that's simply not the way it works. Person1 must wish to exist in an interpretation of money equaling value. Person2 can not make Person1 do that.

The only way to help somebody that is suffering is the help them be happy, help them see something good in their reality, help Person1 see that if they loved the idea of money=value they would be able to accept Person2's gift.

It's a tough subject but I'm always willing to offer my insight.

WHERE IS ENLIGHTENMENT?

(a poem by Jed McKenna)

Why not?

Spiritual enlightenment sits next to an empty milk carton

on an orange tray

in a grade school cafeteria

Its lying among the grass in a ditch

besides a rusting hubcap

Its on a button holding closed the left cuff

of a somewhat important man's shirt

Enlightenment can be found next to the elevator

on the 4th level

of an airport parking garage

You can ask your dog for it

but he may not give it to you...

Look for it next to the pin

in the pocket of the check-out girl's red vest

.. but only on wednesdays....

Enlightenment is in the trunk, behind the jack

You can hear it in the squeak of a hinge

at the local library

Its in the breeze

blowing unheard

thru an unseen tree...

Its in the space after the exhale

and before the next inhale

You can find enlightenment in church

in that scratch on the back of the pew

in front of you

You can find it in the desert

just before the wind picks up again

Enlightenment is.. Nothing!

Delusion is the greatest wonder!

Enlightenment was in your coffee cup

before you poured in the coffee

Now? Its in your coffee cup!

2.2 billion years before your coffee cup was created

Enlightenment was in your coffee cup

An hour and fifteen minutes after time swallows the universe

Enlightenment will be..... in your coffee cup!

You have always known where it is

because its exactly where you left it

How can you not return to a place you never left?

You are dreaming that you are enlightened

You are dreaming that you are awake

The question is -- Why?

The answer is -- why not?

Here is a nice little observation by Jed McKenna:

"Spiritual awakening is about discovering what is true.

Anything that is not about getting to the truth must be

discarded. Truth isn't about knowing things - you

already know too much! Its about un-knowing. Its

not about becoming truer, its about un-becoming

false so that all thats left is truth.

If you want to become a priest, a lama, or a rabbi,

or a theologian, then there's lots to learn -- tons

and tons. But if you want to figure out what's true,

then its a whole different process, and the last

thing you need is more knowledge".

The only way to help somebody that is suffering is the help them be happy.

Can't be done... If you believe that, you are mistaken about how much power you have. This is ego delusion...

As the Dalai Lama once said... "You can't liberate me. Only I can liberate myself..."
