fiveelementtao Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Two Thumbs Up!!! I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. More than I expected I would. As I was sitting in the packed theatre with my wife who was gushing about the movie, waiting for the theatre to empty and having a personal kumbaya moment, a 16 or 17 year old guy behind me starts in and reminded me of the environment of where I live... Here is the conversation we overheard as we waited for the theatre to empty out... "Well, there were some aspects I could've done without." "Like what?" His friend asks.. "Well, for starters, I could have done without the romance... I would've liked it if the marines mowed down those aliens in their first battle. That was their biggest mistake... Y'know Vietnam wasn't our fault. It was the U.S. Army's fault... We did our job..." (I'm assuming his father was a marine in Vietnam or he himself planned to become a marine...) Anyway, it was a blunt reminder that at least 1/2 of the U.S. population still thinks that George Bush was a good president... Â Anyway, apart from that unfortunate conversation I was forced to listen to aftewards... I liked it so much that me and my wife plan on seeing it again in 3-D!! tomodachi101 Posted December 22, 2009 Great movie, enjoyed it a lot, 10.000 years too late though. Â This will give many people a wrong idea, blind nature worship without experience can be very dangerous. See many hypocrites being born by this and surely will be abused for propaganda by the imperialsts who spent millions and millions producing it, instead of doing something worth while a slow and steady education would be more suitable than a hollywood shocker. A spiritually corrupt society going "nature" reminds me of the terrors of woodstock and other falseness. Many of the corporate technoshamans used to be hippies. Quite perverted and twisted, since this is happening right now to the bushmen with their poison bows and arrows, only they stand no chance against the juggernaut of "civilization". Â Just some thoughts.

Just some thoughts.  I'm not sure what you're talking about really, but it's just a movie. People need to stop with the conspiracy theories. People go to movies for entertainment, not to form their spiritual and/or political beliefs. Not that I agree with your assessment in the first place. tomodachi101 Posted December 22, 2009 No need to agree, no expectations. People not going to movies to further their spiritual beliefs stopped for me when reading how kundalini energies were moved while watching. All media plays with emotions due to its audio/visual power. Whats wrong with a conspiratorial perspective, thought to put it out there due to the timing of the release. Predictive programming is an issue. Art has always been used as a subtle mouthpiece to get messages out, for the better or worse. Every commodity should be viewed at least with a grain of skepticism, its "just" entertainment seems to be a bit of a cop out.  The hypocrisy of woodstock (or the new age).... maybe a bit harsh since I wasn't there and have nothing concrete to back it up, except for what I read, lsd, cia, rape.... Imo just a too radical shift from "evil" to "good". No need to start a debate because of a mere movie, just my personal feelings.
agentofchaos Posted December 22, 2009 Tom, with all due respect, I think you're over analyzing it, and in turn finding a message that isn't there. I think any messages and/or themes in Avatar were broad and much more innocent then some of the insidious and contrived theories I've heard here. We watched the same movie, and you took from it a negative message, whereas I didn't. Your ideas here, in my opinion, are pretty out there. It's a slippery slope with conspiracy theories. Vajrasattva Posted December 22, 2009 Â People not going to movies to further their spiritual beliefs stopped for me when reading how kundalini energies were moved while watching. ShaktiMama Posted December 22, 2009 Meditation, Dance, Music, Film, & Love can trigger Kundalini and kriyas. "Little Buddha" has strong similar effect as did "Last Samurai." Â Â Having been a member and owner of several kundalini lists since 1996 I can attest to the fact that what he says above is true. One of the favorite topics of discussion among kundalites is what activates and moves kundalini in their bodies. Movies and music are at the top of the lists. I would get chills watching "Powder". Â There is more not known about what happens with kundalites when they interact with the world than is known. This is one of those things that you will never read about in a book or research paper. Â We also talk about foods, essential oils or scents, colors, lovemaking, intense emotions, movements that excite Kundalini in the body. Really anything that causes joy, gratitude, pleasure or intense wonder will move Kundalini. Being in awe of the Universe in all its wondrous manifestations goes hand in hand with kundalini. Â Sad, I know, But I started getting krias whilst watching DS9 on the box. There was some religious ceremony taking place. Maybe it's the mind that differentiates between what is "real" and "unreal", but the heart or maybe kundalini experiences all experience as real.

Medical experiments have shown that the nervous system cannot tell the difference between an imagined and a real event. This is why it is important to spend time smiling and laughing throughout the day as opposed to dwelling on resentments, fears etc... If you imagine something, your body reacts as though it is really happening. If you imagine you are filled with the bliss of heaven, your body will react as though it is true. And at that point, who's to say it isn't?

And at that point, who's to say it isn't? Â Â EXACTLY. I tell my students ALL the time that the mind cannot tell the difference between a real and imagined thing. It is just a neutral tool. If this was not true we would have no entertainment industry. We would have nothing that causes the mind to create sensations. Porn would cease to exist among other things. Avatar would never be made. We would be Borg. Â Such a powerful healing and transformational application of the mind but we waste it because either we have not been taught or we just don't care or understand the implications. therion Posted December 24, 2009 Could it be that the buddhas are getting desperate trying to reach beings of samsara? Â I mean the average joe is so distracted from reality and his true nature that something like this had to be created to first join him in his illusion and then get the message across that way. Â Sakyamuni's teachings are not getting his attention. Then why not inspire some talented director to create a world mirroring our own and explain the situation. Pandora is that world. The interdependent co-arising is one of the main themes of the movie. One group gets it (the na'vi), the other doesn't (the humans) and one comes to discover it (jake sully) and is completely floored by it. Â There is also a hint that samsara and nirvana are to be found existing in the same realm. Enlightenment is not to be found in some other realm but right here where we are, in the physical universe. Pandora is part of this universe, nirvana is to be found right here in the mind just like samsara. A real buddhist could explain it much better and in greater detail (anyone?) but this is what I got from the movie. Â Also the grand daddy of all buddhas, the primordial buddha, is Vajradhara. Google his picture.
