Sugar is the main thing that prolongs and prevents the healing dampness (western term: candida or yeast overgrowth). If your body is damp there can be no fire. Dampness sucks. Sugar be gone!

btw Songs if you're on antibiotics make sure you're taking probiotics! taking antibiotics will kill off the good stuff in your body and lead to bad dampness (candida). this will make it tough for your body to get nutrients from food.

Right now I am on daily I.V. antibiotics for 6 weeks. I am taking pro-biotics, but have to deal with the unavoidable fact that I will be on suppressive antibiotics for the next two years (!). Unavoidable, unless I decide to bail 'against-medical-advice' at some point, but the consequences of doing that and being wrong are unthinkable. Interestingly, the infectious disease specialist that I am seeing discounted the idea of sugar intake having to do with anything in clearing an infection, indeed, even said that nothing nutritional would affect the outcome, it's only the antibiotic. And also pooh-poohed pro-biotics. The blinders some of these smart people have on! They have no concept of health, only the presence or absence of disease. A truly healthy person is able to eradicate the infections before they become a problem. (I'm pretty sure my knee infection came from a temporary crown that I had procrastinated on going to the periodontist for).

I have decided to avoid all sweets, but if there are small amounts of sugar in something, I'll consider it on an individual basis. Small amounts of fruit juices I think I will occasionally consume too.

I have some condition with my ears: they disagree with the food that contains iether sugar or fructose. I have huge statistic on that (365 days x more than 10 years).

Once I visited a doctor and asked what that could be. The doctor said that what I'm saying (a link between ear condition and sweets) is silly and cannot exist because it contradicts all medical schools.

THis is btw when I learned that there is no difference between white sugars and fructose on damaging a body, just observing my own body's reactions.

sugar exists in all things your body breaks down to digest. even in dried meats, there exist trace amounts of sugars.

Elimination of elements from your diet is irrational. find balance.

We're talking about eliminating unnatural sugars from diet..

You mean processed or refined sugars?

I would stay away from processed cane sugar.. but what about palm sugar or turbinado sugar?

Songs, what other options do you have? From reputable alternative healers, esp. acupuncturists? I feel for your body, that it will need additional healing once your antibiotic treatment ceases. I trust you are doing the best you can. Best to you in your healing. -_-

Well, I have three more weeks of the IV antibiotics, then two years of 'suppressive' antibiotic therapy. I may opt out of the antibiotics sometime during that two year period. The problem is, if I am not successful, the consequences are devastating and a good outcome is in doubt. They remove the artificial knee joint for several months while an antibiotic 'spacer' is put in place for 2 to 3 months and I am bombarded with antibiotics. Then, if it looks clear, they try replacing the joint again and I get immense amounts of antibiotics for months. Even if that is successful, the result is likely less than optimal, with often permanent pain and restriction of range of motion that also doesn't go away. If the replacement is not successful, then the whole spacer thing is started again, I stay off it for months, and start again. The nurse who comes once a week to check my IV site had a patient who went through this cycle 4 times over two and a half years, and ended up with an amputation. And another who was in a wheelchair for two years waiting for the infection to clear. Serious shit.

The orthopedic surgeons don't even want to discuss these scenarios, mine just says to me now,"we're not even going to think about that right now. Let's just focus on getting it out of you this first time". Good advice.

So, yeah, it's a very big deal, and I'm doing everything possible to become healthy. No sugar, acupuncture soon, glutathione injections, no sugar, alkalinize my body, lymphatic massage, exercise, qi gong, supplements, and so on... so it would be a huge gamble to quit the antibiotics prematurely, and it seems like I should just work around it.

Here is an alternative form of natural sugar that can be used if anyone is looking for alternatives to current sugar forms:

(its a sugar supposedly permitted in Ayurveda, in limited amounts)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaggery

jaggery might be harder to find in the states, though in hispanic markets they might sell panela http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panela.

Over here they sell it in most markets since this area has a lot of hispanics I guess.

Very interesting - so you believe you had a tooth infection under your temporary crown that then spread down to your artificial knee internally? Basically per the "focal infection" theory I had linked earlier? How long did you have the temp for before going to the dentist to get the permanent one? Was it hurting by that point?

Or how do you know it wasn't just from the knee surgery?

In any case, cool plasma may be an emergent technology that could revolutionize dental & wound sterilization.

The researchers found that cold plasma can kill bacteria (including B. anthracis which is a causing agent of anthrax, E.Coli, Streptococci and Staphylococci) on living tissue within seconds without causing side effects. Cold plasma can also stop bleeding, making it effective in some surgical procedures and in treating intestinal ulcers and persistent nosebleeds. For example, a severe wound that might bleed for 10-20 minutes was stopped after only 15 seconds of plasma exposure and with no tissue damage. Initial findings also show cold plasma can promote the growth of some human cells at doses slightly greater than those needed to kill bacteria.

Initial research on plasma medicine was sponsored three years ago by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which sought to replace drugs and chemicals the U.S. Army uses to kill pathogenic microorganisms. Supplying those materials to remote areas and disposing of them is a logistical challenge for the Army, Friedman says, hindering delivery of care to the battlefield as well as in peace-keeping and disaster-relief missions.

Non-thermal plasma, however, contains no drugs or chemicals and requires only modest electrical power, widely available in military vehicles and communication equipment. Drexel researchers developed several devices capable of delivering cold plasma discharge that can care for wounds and sterilize medical instruments. The devices are portable, fitting in a laptop computer briefcase. They have been tested on animals since fall 2006 and proven to be safe.

I don't know how commercially-available these devices are yet - but I think they hold great non-pharmaceutical promise for our near future! Edited by vortex
