Immortal4life Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) Kundalini Yoga is said to be a very powerful and spiritual form of Yoga. Many people also believe it is the oldest system of Yoga which all other systems evolved from or come from.  Introduction video to Kundalini-  Kundalini Yoga, longer version-  The Breath of Fire-  "Kriya of Liberation" Yoga-  Hour long workout- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnbzxMsjbIk  Information about Kundalini Yoga- http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/kyintro.html  Kundalini Yoga comes to the west- http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/shakti.html Yogi Bhajan mastered Kundalini Yoga in India when he was 16 1/2 years old. In addition to his yogic practices (he's also a master of Hatha Yoga), he finished college, served in the Indian military, married, fathered three children, and was working as a Customs officer at Palim International Airport when he received an invitation to go to Canada and teach Yoga at the University of Toronto. One of the reasons he accepted the offer was that he had seen too many Americans and Europeans seekers arriving in India, being exploited - spending a lot of money, and leaving without having learned very much, if anything. He vowed to teach honestly, and share the wisdom and the technology that he had gained. He was determined to empower people through Kundalini Yoga and show them they didn't have to become anybody's disciple to progress on the spiritual path.  He not only lost his luggage en route to Canada, but when he landed in Toronto, he discovered that the professor from the University who had hired him had just died. So he had no job, only $35, and the clothes on his back. This was September of 1968.  In December, he received another invitation, this time a personal one from a man he had known in India, to spend a weekend visiting in Los Angeles.  He never went back. Although "the Yogi," as we called him then, had only intended to stay in LA for one weekend, when he met the young people who belonged to the generation of the '60's, those souls whose destiny it was, at this time of the dawning of the Aquarian Age, to usher in the new era. he knew he must stay here and teach them.  Information about Yogi Bhajan- http://yogibhajan.com/  Yogi Bhajan videos- http://yogibhajan.com/YBVideos.htm Edited April 6, 2011 by Immortal4life

henro Posted December 9, 2010 I've been practicing Kundalini yoga as taught by YB for about 5 years now. It's great practice for a lot of reasons, especially for people who find hatha too strenuous, or simply don't "get" gigong. I often recommend it to people who are looking for a life practice, but have had a hard time sticking to anything. Â If you read enough on the web you will undoubtedly come across posts that say "Kundalini Yoga" does not exist in India, and that's true. The yoga taught by Yogi Bhajan is a mix of techniques and styles that he was taught by his teachers. Kundalini Yoga was simply the brand name he gave his practice so he could market it to Westerners. Â One of my qigong teachers also started out with a Kundalini Yoga practice in the 70's but he moved on after 5 or 6 years because he felt too much breath of fire was burning up his kidney essence, and the practice of sending energy up the spine and out the crown chakra was not as powerful as doing the microcosmic orbit. I"m investigating those ideas my self. Many of the senior practitioners are Sikh, and that lends itself to a more spiritual approach than other systems of yoga. Â I've had some very powerful experiences through this practice, and it has really strengthened my qigong and tai ji practice, as well as my meditations. ralis Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I practiced so called Kundalini yoga here in Santa Fe for many years. Many mornings at 5:30a.m. With the right teacher, it can be grueling if not over the top! My first class, we worked on the thighs and lower abdomen. The next day, I was so sore, that it was difficult to stand up straight. I likened it to football conditioning when I was in high school. Â Yogi Bhajan passed on a few years ago. Edited December 9, 2010 by ralis
Alfred E Posted December 9, 2010 but Im not sure true kundalini yoga can be found in a book or website. Â For that you'd probably need to go to the himalayas and find a true satguru. I currently see Kundalini Yoga as one of the path's to enlightenment. Not enlightenment itself but as a path leading to the meditation discipline needed to get there. Â Also the experiences of going through the Chakras is totaly unique. I used The Five Tibetans book by Christopher S. Kilham - no teacher needed - just the book. Alfred E Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) What are your results from the Five Tibetans? Opening of the Chakras and a more focused meditative mind. I began it about 5 years ago and am currently returning with an emphasis on the 3rd eye. Each time I was able to open a chakra it was like a sexual orgasm. Â That is a really good insight and perspective. That is also something like my impression of Kundalini. It seems very powerful, but perhaps it can be too powerful. Something that should be practiced in moderation and balanced with softer practices and meditation. Â The Kidneys are your base, they are your life. They are probabaly the most important thing in the world. Kidneys are everything. This is why Chi Kung is so good. Â Â yea I guess kundalini yoga would just be yoga that opens up the kundalini and isn't a specific brand name 'kundalini yoga'. My friend just tells me commercialized kundalini yoga is not 'real', i mean it's more like their own version. like sivananda's kundalini yoga, yogi bajahn's kundalini yoga. I'm sure it's still good though. Â AS for the five tibetan rites of rejuvenation. I love it. It's like spiritual crack.jk. well I feel very awake after I do it, specifically with the modifications given by Master Stephen Co in the book Your Hands Can Heal You. Â I noticed that if you do the five tibetan rites for long enough my energy becomes more powerful.

"Kundalini Yoga" can simply be a brand name such as that taught by Yogi Bhajan. Or it could be any number of systems or even kriyas designed to safely open up the kundalini energy that is stored at the base of the spine. Â It's comparable to different family styles of tai ji, kung-fu, etc. Of course you'll have exponents of each deriding each other and talking about what the real and original system is or was. JazZen Posted December 10, 2010 I dont practice Kundalini Yoga even though I belong to Sikh faith and have friends that do. It definitely is a system that works. Â I also recommend Music by some singers that come from YB tradition. 2 of them have wonderful music that touches my heart and takes me into higher places, goes well with Kunlun as well.
