Can anyone recomend some books or such on african spirituality?

My passion for Afro-Cuban percussion has given me a never ending history lesson!

 

So much, so vast. The discovery is never ending.

 

I am not qualified to recommend and specific books as Africa is large!

 

The Yoruba and the Orishas may be a good launching point, or the Palo.

This may live more vibrantly in the Caribbean or Bahia through syncretism.

Then you have the more Islam based and Egyptian schools to the North.

I believe we are more than likely searching for something out of the Congo or Nigeria.

 

Then there is the Branford Keeney stuff.

funny, you should ask; yesterday I felt really compelled to check out African percussion.

 

I really like the primal sound, it makes you go into no-thought in no time

I remember watching a documentary on Vodun a while back and some cat was waxing poetic on how jazz came out of voodoo! Chew on that for a minute.

 

A cool idea would be to start in New Orleans and trace back through the caribbean back to the Ivory Coast or vice versa
