Gettin' Ready for the Rapture

Recommended Posts

This billboard is just down the street from my house in Chatsworth, CA, the porn capital of the world. I just had to check it out.

It would seem that this handsome young fellow...

Harold-Camping.jpg

...thinks that the Mayans are fools, along with everyone else who believes the Mayans, because this man, Harold Camping, uses MATH! to calculate the accurate date for the Rapture.

Silly Mayans! Prophecy is for Christian fundamentalists who know their multiplication tables!

I am just speechless. Thank you for posting this, because I'd never have known and you are really lucky to live so close to the source. Those silly Mayans indeed! Unfortunately this is a calendar conflict for me. I have an appointment out at Area 51 on the 21st. Do you think They'll take a raincheck? Oh sorry...a Soncheck?

apologies... to any offended....well sort of.....

That Jesus sure knows how to make an entrance. You'd think with all the resources available to him (Catholic church coffers) he'd put an ad in the middle of the superbowl.

Hello Blasto,

I'm wondering what makes you different from this guy? He doesn't believe the Mayans, you don't believe him. I'm sure he speaks ill of others beliefs and you speak ill of his beliefs. Perhaps it's because you're right and he's wrong? Maybe you should be less concerned with what others believe and more concerned with what you believe?

Wow! Found your balls, eh? The obvious difference between me and Harold camping is that I am not making declarative statements about the return of supernatural beings and he is. That in iteself doesn't make him wrong or me right. What it does mean is that you're too fucking clueless to see the larger point of the danger and folly of religious extremism.

"One of the laws of the universal logos is that whatever the soul focuses on and pays greater attention to tends to increase and expand. So the focus on and familiarity with a particular logos (Shamanic, mystical Christian, Sufi, Taoist, Buddhist...etc.) will unfold the individual’s experience to reveal more of the qualities of the particular logos. This is natural and necessary, and there is no way to avoid it. That is how reality functions." (Inner Journey Home, pg 581)

A. H Almaas

Almaas recognizes that logoi of valid spirital paths may differ significantly. This is the subject of a brilliant piece, unfortunately relegated to the very last Appendix of his book, entitled “The Logoi of Teachings” (pp. 567- 582)

Strongly recommended, this appendix - "The Logoi of Teachings" (from "Inner Journey Home" by A. H. Almaas) is pure gold: good antidote for religious/spiiritual fanaticism/fundamentalism...

Interesting reaction, Twinner. Why the hostility?

Yep, I wouldn't object to someone calling me an ecumenicist, but if pushed I'd settle for being labeled a postmodern humanistic Buddhist agnostic. But I may revisit Christianity one more time before I check out just to reinvestigate, as you say, the subject of divine love.

I read somewhere about the encounter of the Christian mystic Thomas Merton and Buddhist mystic Daisetz Suzuki. Suzuki shared with Merton than when he read Meister Eckhart - apart from the cultural religious terms - he felt like if he was reading any of the great Zen/Chan mystics...

I mean, basically, I don't feel difference between:

"Everything you do to help enhance your energy flow and balance your energy are good for you. The more you can do it the better you will be at it and the more benefit you will receive. The very best, in my opinion, is connecting with the limitless, unconditional love of the universe and the infinite source. Opening your heart, connec...ting with this unconditional love is always the best. There simple is no more powerful healing energy than unconditional love. When you open your heart like this you can get into the emptiness/the oneness faster, then the Qi will do what is best for you naturally and spontaneously."

Chunyi Lin

and

"no light or guide/but that one in the heart/ burning bright"

Saint John of the Cross/John of Yepes

and

etc.etc.

As the mystic poet Ibn Arabi wrote:

My heart has become capable of every form:

It is a pasture for gazelles,

And a monastery for Christian monks,

And a temple for idols,

And the Ka’aba of the pilgrims,

And the tablets of the Torah,

And the book of the Qur’an.

I follow the religion of Love:

Whatever path Love’s camel takes,

That is my religion and my faith.

-Ibn Arabi

Not a coincidence that the most brilliant teachers - like Ken Cohen - stress this point...

You're all such a bunch of fools

I know of a grandmaster, he said he believes in Jesus, the reason he practices is lest Jesus would forget to save him too!!!

He said, when Jesus left, there were only a handful of disciples, when He will return, there will be billions!! Who knows if Jesus has room for that many...!

:ninja:

He does if he gets a Twitter account! He could republish all those 2 sentence phrases from the Bible no problem, they'd even fit!

Last Twitter from Jesus 12 minutes ago:

"Love thy neighbour. Why the fuck am I speaking in old English!"

Jesus 5 hours ago:

"Went to pick up some potatoes at the supermarket. Sick of waiting in a queue, it's like waiting for the second coming."

Jesus yesterday:

"I don't think I'll ever understand women."

To me, this show was probably the finest tv writing since tv's golden age of the 70s, but I wouldn't want to deliberately offend certain members of my family by suggesting they tune in. Still, one of ther funniest scenes in recent memory!

Hello NMTNMT,

Weren't you the one that got upset when people were insinuating that the Japanese were sexual deviants? Why is it okay for you to ridicule Christianity, but it's not okay for others to make negative comments about something you revere? There seems to be a lot of short term memory loss in this forum. In the future, I would recommend, rather than acting like hypocrites, that you guys treat others with the same degree of respect you want people to treat you and your ideas. (I'm sure the others know who they are.)
