Gerard Posted March 18, 2011 After reading this comment on YT while reviewing the music I enjoyed listening so much in me teenage years (and still today): Seems so many people feel the same regarding the music that came out of the eighties. I think the time has come to band together as one voice and let it be known that we are fed up with the fake music being thrown at us! All of the voices at one time in front of Sony Music telling of our desire to go back to when it was real! Pass it along and letsplan on it!!!! travsam767 1 month ago 12 Something in the moonlight catches my eye The shadow of a lover goes dancing by Looking for a little bit of love to grow, so Give me love, give me heart and soul You never let me cross to the other side now I'm tied to the hope that you will somehow Hard on the heels of something more But I lost your love, heart and soul The tear in my heart as you walk on by (more than an ocean) I feel so low and your head is high Everything you do convinces me more, please (keeps us apart) Give me love, give me heart and soul Looking to the day when I saw your face (I feel a tearing in half of my heart) I wasn't in the running, I wasn't in the race You move in a way that I've known before Now I want your love, heart and soul leaving you ain't easy now (Tired eyes, tears that dried) loving you's the harder part (On the bed, on the pillow, where the love has died) you never want me for myself (A turn of the key, through the door you go) now I've needed you right from the very start (Don't look back, to hurt me more ) (Everything you said was to the point) oh won't you even try to (Can't you try to) Give a little bit of heart and soul (give a little bit of heart and soul) Give a little bit of love to grow Give a little bit of heart and soul (give a little bit of heart and soul) And don't you make me beg for more (must I beg you) Give a sign, I need to know A little bit of heart and soul Walking on the water, walking on the air (a walk on the water) That was the heart of the love we shared Do you keep secret left untold (is all that I need) Can't give love, heart or soul I used to have a lover with a Midas touch (but miracles are not happening) I turned to gold but he turned to dust Left me for another, I turned to stone Now give me love, heart and soul Living in a fantasy (Tired eyes, tears that dried) there's never any room to breathe (On the bed, on the pillow, where you told your lies) hoping every waking hour (A turn of the key, my blood runs cold) you'll turn around and say that we can start (Don't look back to hurt me more) (Everything you did just said it all) oh won't you even try to (Can't you try to) Give a little bit of heart and soul (give a little bit of heart and soul) Give a little bit of love to grow Give a little bit of heart and soul (give a little bit of heart and soul) And don't you make me beg for more (must I beg you) Give a sign, I need to know A little bit of heart and soul Somehow, I lost my way Looking to see something in your eyes But love will never compromise Now this is the politics of life, yeah! Give a little bit of heart and soul Give a little bit of heart and soul I agree 100% with this viewer and even T'Pau's song HEART AND SOUL says it very clearly. Modern society has come to a point where humans are just mere slaves of TECHNOLOGY, SCIENCE-MIND AND PROFIT. What happened to the spirit? Well I have to tell them that the human spirit is eternal and incombustible. No matter how hard you try to oppress it, it will grow stronger...so start allowing "real musicians" to make the music they like, FROM THE SPIRIT. Namaste. Nanashi Posted March 18, 2011 I too think modern music is an empty, commercial product rather than a form of art. Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974, everything since has been synthesizers and auto-tuners. Though, that old style jazz is such the perfect sound-- Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Parker, Coltrane-- man, I don't think music will ever reach the heights from that era. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3Fkuq5Lf0Q

"T'pau" was always the tune I skipped (fast-forwarded) through on the hits tapes (yes, tapes) I bought. What's very unfortunate is despite this, I remember the whole tune. Dammit. However, tastes aside, I have to agree with Gerard. But we're talking mainstream airplay and not anything else? Give some credit. I reckon many people are no longer "mainstream" only, although the record and media co's are perhaps reluctant to admit it :-)
Aaron Posted March 19, 2011 (edited) I am definitely an eighties child... I wore parachute pants and had a spike. Billy Idol was my favorite singer by the way. I disagree that todays music doesn't have heart and soul, it just takes some time to find those artists that possess these qualities. Some modern bands that I like are The Killers, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, and of course Enya and Loreena McKennitt... I actually have varied taste in music, I like to listen to classical. salsa and jazz, but I prefer to listen to live music. If I was going to suggest listening to one song it would be the following... Aaron Edited March 19, 2011 by Twinner
Gerard Posted March 19, 2011 I think pretty well everyone feels somewhat that way about the particular music they grew up with. It seems that when we are younger music may have a stronger impact and influence on us than when we grow older. That impact can stay with us througout our life... Well, what if you grew up with everything that was created with HEART AND SOUL in mind? You needn't to be a teenager in the 80s to appreciate the 80s. You know what I mean, for instance: 1958 Just an example of the great music Elvis composed. This one back in 1960. Lots of SOUL in a man that until he left this world always sung with his HEART. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhdny7nMjMM&feature=related & 1965 & 1967. How many artists sing with this "feeling" today? 1968. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDalZ4-53g This song doesn't need a presentation (1969) Composed in 1971. One of the most enigmatic and spiritual songs of all time. Ulises Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) I'm still waiting for another Van Morrison to appear... ...but it's true, Sigur Ros music has heart...like other contemporary music: Dhafer Youseff Ross Daly is more than a virtuoso... and William PArker has something to say through his music... and the latest by John Hopkins is beautiful ...and this a fascinating recent finding: James Carson http://jamescarson.com/# Edited March 21, 2011 by Ulises

Everything Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) All this music would not be here without Bach, it seems. Erbarme Dich by bach, means Have Mercy in german. This is real music This is music that is worthy to be called a "creation." It is not a recreated piece. Such a random thing: "asking for mercy." Still this music is the deepest way you can ask for mercy. It is kinda too sad even for my taste, but this truely is incredible. It gives you a feeling that we're all here to die, and our only purpose is asking mercy of god for when that time comes. This might not be something to relate to easily as Taoists, since we don't wonder in death but in life instead. But for a christian this would be like the revelation of gods language. Gotta keep it short, add two more pieces. Perhaps a music by a man who knew the worth of Bach and valued him accordingly, Debussy with Arabesque. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWpV7L4YHuU This one is more joyful, filled with beauty and youth. A creation by debussy with credits to Bach. You know the worth of a piece when all it requires of you is an ear, a soul, without a memory. Most music requires of you an memory with the music to enjoy. Little Fugue in G minor by bach. The work of a mad genius. Complex, as never seen before, yet moving and so emotionally touching. Not to sound like a snob or anything, but really Bach is the one to learn from if you want to create music. I don't expect someone to outdo the work he did anytime soon. I can't help admiring and value this kind of genius. It is mysteriously evil madly genius. So wrong... So delusioned... I do agree with the fact that popular music in 80's were alot better then now.
