Where are all the Taoist monasteries in America? There seems to be none.

 

I predict, that if it was done correctly, that would be an amazing venture. Envisioning it and finding investing wouldnt even be a problem but smooth sailing. What do you think?

There is at least one that I personally know of, although I'm not sure if it exists anymore without doing a net search - it's in South El Monte, CA (east LA). I know of this one because I lived down the street from it for a year.

 

Not what you might consider a temple in China, but a temple nonetheless. Lot of good ju-ju there.

I actually had thoughts at one time of creating something along the lines of a combination temple/school/retreat/clinic here in Pennsylvania, but something told me to wait...or move...

In the early nineties Grand Master Alaxander Anatole 'built' The Temple of Original Simplicity near Boston, Massachusetts. It's recognized as one of the few authentic Taoist temples outside China (both mainland and Taiwan).

Most of these places are probably just houses in the suburbs. I suspect that Taoist monasteries aren't that hard to start, rather the trouble is in becoming self-supporting.

Actually the one here in Houston is a rather large Temple (not as big as the Hindu temple here, or Lakewood Baptist for that matter, but large nonetheless). It is a Korean (if memory serves) Temple. There is a open air area with a number of gods and incense avaiable to offer to them. They also had a huge dead pig that looked as if it was going to be offered. There is also a closed temple area that looked like it was used for services of some kind. Though it looks like it has seen its years, it still looked very nice and well kept. Not a monestary though.

Here is Lao Zi Academy (SC) at laoziacademy.us. Lao Zi could be ancestor of Taoism culture according to Chinese traditional culture. Master Wang Liping, who is the 18th generation transmitter of dragongate lineage of Taoism, conceived this non-profit organization. Monthly online meet-up and annual retreat have been held.

I'm pretty sure I came across a Taoist temple or maybe a center in San Francisco. The problem is, it felt very weird and unwelcoming. I entered but there was no one there to greet me or to talk and the place seemed strange and empty, except one room where people were talking in Chinese in a very loud manner. I didn't feel like interrupting them and I just left.
