Marblehead Posted September 14, 2011 Just talked a little to this in the "Love" thread. Â The games people play. Â But in time the truth shows through. Â There are many people who really don't have a true self. They have always worn a mask of one type or another - always trying to be what they think others want them to be. Â When we look for the 'real' person we find nothing but emptiness.
Ambrose_Bierce Posted September 14, 2011 It is only out of fear that we try to "Peg" or "Define" others or when others try to do the same to us. Â At least our defects remind us we are human
doc benway Posted September 14, 2011 Â There are many people who really don't have a true self. They have always worn a mask of one type or another - always trying to be what they think others want them to be. Â When we look for the 'real' person we find nothing but emptiness. This is an excellent point, but "many people"? Who does have a true self and what is that exactly? Don't we all wear masks? If not, I suggest that it's just a lack of awareness. We are nursed and raised on the drugs of acceptance and approval, from childhood, through school, work, relationships... It never ends until we see through it. Even if we are not trying to be what someone else wants us to be, aren't we trying to be what we think we should be? And where does that come from?

You want me to quantify "many people"? I can't. But I will not say "all people". No, that wouldn't be true, I think. Â Remember, I am too old to give a shit anymore. Hehehe. Â Oh, sure, as I have mentioned before, I have my illusions and delusions, but I know what they are and I intentionally keep them in my life while I am on my own property. Â But your points are well taken. Questions worth all of us asking now and again.
tulku Posted September 14, 2011 It is only out of fear that we try to "Peg" or "Define" others or when others try to do the same to us.  At least our defects remind us we are human  Then why do most fall for imperfections thinking that they are perfect?  Are they lying to themselves that these imperfections are perfect?  Are they ignoring the signs of imperfection? And where does that come from?  acceptance and approval is a substitute for the love missing from your inner self  everyone thought they could regain the love missing from the creator with acceptance and approval from their parents, their mates/spouses, their children, their family, their peers and the rest of the masses  i know the truth now i know who you are and i don't love you anymore  it never was and never will be you don't know how you've betrayed me and somehow you've got everybody fooled  it never was and never will be you're not real and you can't save me somehow now you're everybody's fool Edited September 15, 2011 by tulku
