Today marks 3 months membership for me here on The Tao Bums. I do enjoy the Active Content

and the Flow of Conversations as thet take place here. As we know some get rather LIVELY!!

I also Highly Value researching Older threads that have become inactive. I also greatly enjoy reading

some of the wonderful posts made by members that are no longer active here. This site is of great entertainment,

educational, and inspirational value to me.

A feature that I use to find interesting older threads is the "last click" located

at the bottom of the page with the Listed Online Active Memebers. I have found some fantastic older threads using this feature "last click".

Last week I stumbled upon a thread called "The Top Ten Tao Bums of All-Time". It is an older thread and I do not really care who were/are considered the Top All-Time Bums. BUT it was a great resource for me to look up the topics that these Bums had started. I did PM a couple of our MODS asking for a Tip to refind this thread. I realize that I should have clicked the "Watch This Topic" feature. But I did not.

I have not been on here long enough to have my own personal Top Ten Favorites and while I do enjoy Dave Letterman's nightly Top Ten lists, but I have about ONE HUNDRED favorite bums here already. You Guys and GALS ROCK. This site is just tremendous.

I Thank all of you Participating Members , Current and Past.

If anyone can tell me how to find that OLD THREAD , I would be GRATEFUL. As I said I use those types of threads to find Topics/Threads that are no longer active. There is a Wealth of Insights, Knowledges, Ideas, and Entertainments for me to discover there.

 

I would never List my personal Favorite Bums and I have disabled the friends feature on my Profile page here. I did look up under "Overall Top Posters" and found these 15 Bums who are the most Viewed. I am looking through these Posters Topic Histories and enjoying the Finds! I feel like a Treasure Hunter who daily finds Rare Gems. I am a Miner Who Seeks the Treasures Buried in the Archives Here at THE TAO BUMS

One thing you will notice about the top ten of all time, is that first, many of them are moderators, so it makes sense that people would message them more and view their profile more, and second, they are mostly longer term members so of course the longer you have been a member the more chances you have had to get hits. They may also have large friend networks, so their friends could just be clicking their profiles in order to message them and stuff like that.

 

Other factors I would look at in addition are...

 

How many hits your profile gets per day, not just in total, but per day, per week, etc.

 

Frequency of posting, how consistent is someone in their posting, per day, per week, etc.

 

Frequency and amount of successful threads created. Forums need threads to be created, not just replied to.

 

How many hits did each created thread get? How consistent is it? Lots of people can get lucky and create a popular topic that lasts weeks and weeks, and gets several thousand hits in the end. But how many hits does it get per day, per week, etc. Can someone consistently draw 100 hits a day? a 1000 hits a week? Can they be consistent over months? years? what? whatever they draw on the actual discussion forum, that could be looked at too.

If you look in the personal practice section, Yoda had a thread with over 36,000 views. It was called the Muppet Works, but he erased it all after becoming a disciple of Mak Tin Si. This was unfortunate because it provided a really interesting historical record of exploration of a wide variety of practices. Oh well...

I think people look at profiles after interesting or provocative posts, both of which I do, even if they are not often 'popular'. I am surprised Vajrahridaya didn't make the list.

I still loosely hide behind the anonymity of the internet, not revealing my identity in my profile, mostly because I wish to be unfettered in my expression. So perhaps that's why my 'notoriety' score is rather high.(Although some bums know who I am through private conversations, hehe).
