Hi

Recommended Posts

Someone posted a link to this forum on my relatively new Taoism forum over a year ago and I just got around to checking it out. It looks like you ahave a nice succesful forum here, congratulations!

I have been practicning Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Nei Kung) for almost a couple of decades now and it is important in my life. I am lucky to have had some really good teachers here in Volcanoland, Seattle, Washington.

I consider myself to be a Tao Bum too because when I try to think nothing happens! ...and I don't try too often either =)

Thanks, I am pretty opinionated about the practices, so I will look into sharing. I looked into the practices section and it looks like different people have their own mini forums. I'm wondering if those need to be set up for you or does admin do that? I'll check to see what it says about it in instrctions.

I see you make swords, Leigh. I've made a few knives. My method is cutting them out of stainless and then doing a lot of grinding so that they have a symetrical airfoil shape, not like the standard flat sided knife with a bevel grind. With the airfoil shape and the polished stainless it gives them a sort of jewelry like look. In other words the blade itself is like jewelry, not just a flat peice with jewelry added on.

Edit: never mind, I found the rules stated right there on the forum description

Welcome Starjumper :)

We like oppinionated! especially oppinions born from a couple of decades of practice! Do share the details of your practices (if appropriate) - I'm sure many would be interested.

what's the address of your forum? (just so I can infiltrate it and convert all the members into Bums!:o:P:lol: )

Well we already are Tao Bums, just don't know about this place, but I'll post a link to it. There aren't too many of us over there except for us moderators but it's betting slightly busier lately. Our forum has as it's primary focus the Taoist arts and practices rather than the philosophy or religion (I know they overlap)

I have been practicing Yang and Chen Tai Chi, including sword forms, but my primary practice is an internal Chi Kung (Nei Kung) which is also a path of internal alchemy. It's all about cultivating Chi power and is sometimes called a sorcerer's practice.

Here's the forum link: Empirical Taoism

Here's my Chi Kung website: Tien Shan Chi Kung

Hi everyone, I was looking through the different threads and read one that discussed methods of repairing torn knee menscus without surgery which looked very good but now I can't find it. It was posted by the main forum moderator I think. If anyone could direct me to that thread or post the info/link here I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,

Star man

If this is what you're looking for, it's here

Been reading through your site and forum a bit - great stuff!!

Thank you very much for finding that info for me. I had a feeling there might be some way to heal a meniscus injury but I couldn't find it so I had the surgery on my left knee about two years ago. My #1 student had meniscus surgery on both knees a couple of months ago. It's a shame I didn't know about it earlier so I could have at least tried to help him. When they start taking parts of your body out and throwing them away that's a one way road to hell =)

I'm going to study the info and see if maybe it can help grow back some of the meniscus that was taken out. Luckily it was a small amount. If you don't mind I'll take that and put it on my forum. We have one forum dedicated to health and nutrition where it will go nicely.

I'm glad you are enjoying my forum and website.

Regarding knees many taiji players and martial artists have knee problems.

Stand facing a wall feet shoulder width apart one inch from the wall.

Nose touching the wall. One should be able to go down into a full squat

to the floor hinging at your joints.

If you can do this you will have proper knee alignment.

In this position your knees must be centered over your feet.

Stand up with a chair, seat facing you the edge lined up with your knees.

Move into a squat. If your knees pushed the chair forward you are moving

improperly. Now try again with the image in your mind that you are about to

sit in a chair. You will bend at the qua and your behind will move back directly

toward the make believe chair - your knees will not move forward.

Stand legs shoulder width apart with one leg about a foot in front of the other.

Bend your front knee sit deep in your qua. Your weight is 100% on your front leg.

Turn your waist in the direction of the front leg (if right leg front turn right) at the same time

feel your leg vertically into the ground and push the inner thigh toward the right.

There should be no movement (rotation) in the knee. Now turn your waist toward the left .

Keep pushing your inner thigh toward the right. Do not allow your knee to move to the left (rotate)

with your waist.

I've got some experience in this area also, one knee meniscus trimmed, other knee has a spot that is tender during deep bends.

Glucosamine does not help to grow new tissue. It does help lubricate the joint, and does seem to provide some extra cushion - maybe due to increasing the viscosity of sinovial fluid? - while you are taking it. When you stop taking it, the lubrication/cushion effect gradually wears off. Best brand (stateside) is GS500 by Enzymatic Therapy. It can take up to 6 weeks before you will notice a difference. I took it for a couple of years, and then got tired of taking 6 pills/day knowing that I would have to continue for the rest of my life.

Good cod liver oil also seems to help. It also has to be taken regularly, but provides plenty of other benefits. I don't know cod liver's mechanism of action.

Thank you for the info, I read this right after you posted it and had some questions but I got real busy with software mods and changes to my forum. Now that I return I think I understand the answers to the questions I had.

It sounds like the first two are like self tests to see if you have proper alignment, and the second one is an exercise which I image you mean to do as a series of repetitions for practice. I understand the idea of rotating the waist instead of the knee, I found that out the hard way after my knee surgery =)

Thanks Michael. I'm taking some glucosamin, MSM, and chondroitin but I suppose the amounts are too small and I'm taking them to sporadically. I also take salmon oil in a large capsule once a day. My knee didn't bother me much after my surgery except for when I had too much inactivity. I do quite a bit of backpacking and it doesn't seem to affect it but it's bothering me a little more now, and it could be due to inactivity because I've been spending so much time at my desk, I've also started a new martial art which could be contributing to it because we do some pushing in it.

I used to take cod liver oil but switched to Alaskan salmon to try to reduce metal poisoning. I'm assuming Salmon oil is as good as Cod oil. I should probalby just take more of it.

I love cod liver oil - what makes it better than the other fish oils is that it contains natural vitamin A and D... which both help in rebuilding bone and ligament tissues... especially D, which is hard to come by, unless you live in a sunny area and sunbathe regularly.

Hi Cat, actually there is no link and it was just a joke. I underlined the text to make it look like a link is all.

Nice Avatar Starjumper7. I have the EXACT same one on a few other boards!

Yes it's a nice one. I identify with the character Pei Mei in some ways, how about you? Did you know that there was a 'real' Pei Mei, an actual person?

Also, you're other avatar isn't exactly the same is it? because i thought I had made some changes to the borders on that one.

Pei Mei, also Bak Mei, was one of the five Shaolin masters of the Shaolin system when the temple was destroyed by the Qing dynasty emperor. Some say Pei Mei was the betrayer.

Pei Mei - Wikipedia

Pei Mei means White Eyebrow, and there is a Kung Fu style with the same name. My eyebrows are gray now, so I'm still Starjumper the gray, not yet Starjumper the White.

Hi Starjumper. I know it was a joke... I Just messin' wid you.

I came in here to say Hello, is all.

Hi Cat, where do you live?

When I go for hikes in the mountains i can feel my eenrgy reflecting off trees as I walk by, so I play a game to see how far away I can sense them. I can also feel the energy people leave in the ground where they slept in their tents.

I live in London, starjumper. Can you feel my tent?

I like the game you describe. I never thought of my energy reflecting off of trees.

I rather am aware of the tree energy, not my own as seperate, because I get this strong calm and happy feeling of heart love around trees, so I mentally say hello and embrace them as I walk by them. I usually say "I love you" to them, because this is what comes up for me. Though some woods are closed to sharing, and some trees are depressed.

I remember some trees particularly. There were some trees in Tunisia which were amazing, a grove of old cypress trees I think they were, being there was like falling in love, I didnt want to leave. I have a photo of me there and I look as if I'm in a soft porn film, practically.

I am intrigued by the notion of energy 'bouncing off of'. I never thought of boundaries between energy fields in that way.

Do you do energy exchange with natural phenomenon? You gather that I do.

Sorry, that's a bit far as the type of feeling I'm refering to is a tactile feeling of energy, primarily with the hands, not a psychic type of feeling.

It's true trees have their own energy field and it is difficult to discern what is my reflected energy and which is theirs. However, I can feel my energy reflecting off of walls or sidewalks or rocks on or under the ground and the sensation is the same with trees. I can also feel myselrf moving through the energy field of the Earth if I pay attention. Have you ever heard of the term 'radar hands'?

May the Force be with you,

Starjumper
