madMUHHH Posted March 8, 2012 I don't wanna take any position here whatsoever, as I haven't really made up my mind about this yet, but still I thought I might share this criticism of the campaign here. Can't help to view the situation fro several angles: Â http://justiceinconflict.org/2012/03/07/taking-kony-2012-down-a-notch/

Aetherous Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) I'm convinced it's a decent charity. Their cause is definitely worth participating in. Â The rhetoric of the detractors, skeptics, cynics etc...is absolutely useless. These types of people accomplish nothing, and cause a lot of damage, IMO. The public is beginning to wake up and care about things, and then they hear from supposedly informed people (questionable) that they're just being cheated out of their money? It's not only untrue, as we can clearly see in the IC's records from multiple sources, it's also disheartening and a huge backwards step in our evolution. The general public should be encouraged to care, and to get involved in efforts that make a real difference. Not needlessly discouraged. Â If the defeatists had another suggestion that would actually work, it'd be acceptable. Like if they said, "IC only donates about 80% towards their cause. This other organization donates 95% to this same effort, here is their website." That would be really great. But that's not what these types of people do. Â I think what primarily turns people off is how slick the organization is. Everything is all set up, like a microwave dinner. Turns on the alarms for the skeptics. But that's exactly what I love about it: simple solutions. Something we can do, instead of simply observing the news helplessly and complaining about it like usual. Â ... Â Here is the decisive factor: Â If someone claims that IC isn't a trustworthy charity, did they find an actual trustworthy one and donate to it instead? Â Did they do anything which made a difference? Edited March 8, 2012 by Scotty

Aetherous Posted March 8, 2012 Sweet link, Sinfest. Kony reminds me a lot of a Ugandan I served with at one point...personable, but you later realize how nearly everything he said to you is a lie.
Aetherous Posted March 16, 2012 The whole response to the Kony idea (people taking a highly critical and pseudo-intellectual stance) has been very interesting to me, and now this...  http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/03/16/kony-2012-director-jason-russell-detained-after-meltdown/?mod=e2fb  Psychic attack? Desert Eagle Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) Other charities that help in Africa:  Arguably one of the most successful land regeneration projects in the world, Farmer Managed Natural Regeneraton (FMNR), beginning in Niger during the 1980s, has revegetated three million hectares of arid land in that country alone – bringing back biodiversity in flora and fauna, increasing soil humus (and thus carbon) content, improving water retention and microclimates, and dramatically improving the health and viability of local communities. It is now practiced on over 30,000 km² of land in the Niger Republic as well as Chad, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Mali. It has been written about in many noteworthy publications (the NY Times, for example), and below we hear about its original development from the man who first discovered the ‘underground forest’. In short, trees have returned to Niger, and they’re bringing prosperity with them.  by Tony Rinaudo, Natural Resource Management Advisor, Integration Team,  http://www.interaction.org/document/farmer-managed-natural-regeneration-0  http://www.ifpri.org/book-5826/millionsfed/cases/innovation  http://permaculture.org.au/2010/09/21/farmer-managed-natural-regeneration-video/  https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=Farmer+Managed+Natural+Regeneraton+  http://www.natureandpoverty.net/fr/theme-local/actualites/article/farmer-managed-natural-regeneration-9169/  http://www.changealife.com.au/projects/Chad/Pages/default.aspx  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa105YnGaSk   Edited March 31, 2012 by Desert Eagle

i_am_sam Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) Excellent link Desert Eagle.  What primarily turns me off, Scotty, is that you're being co-opted into the western elites agenda of further militarisation of Africa.  Is that what the continent needs? More men with guns?  Yes they're very slick.  Its. all. about. the .oil  Dude.  Wake up.  Really. Edited March 28, 2012 by i_am_sam

Aetherous Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) You think that sending 100 SOF there in a temporary advisory role is really about the US getting African oil and "men with guns" destroying the continent? Â I don't live in the same world as you. Â Edit: Also, my personal opinion regarding objections to the-Invisible-Children-cause remains the same as it was in my previous posts. I try not to say anything directly because I consider myself to be a friend of Desert Eagle, and I respect his opinions and choices even if I disagree.
