Is the West more accepting of Death than the East?

Recommended Posts

If a Buddha of Death comes forth around the end of this year 2012 and spread his Teachings based on the Death of Maya and the Death of the Cursed Cycle of Rebirth and Death, the West seems to possess more courage in their hearts to accept the teachings of Death than the East.

Cos the Eastern Cultures, as spiritual as they are, have more fearful about Death than the West.

This is one of the funniest post you made so far. "Westerners" (bad bad generalisation) are for the most part already scared shitless about becoming old, not to mention about dying.

You mix up stuff as usual

just go and live among the asians in an asian country and see how attached those families are to their parents, spouses and children..

why do you think the asians have a higher level of spirituality than the west? not because they want to be enlightened but because asians are more afraid of Death than the west..

all their multiple temples are meant to give the worshipers venues to ask gods for more money, prettier/richer spouses, better heath etc etc.. but not a single temple teaches its worshipers to deal with Death in a very positive, loving manner..

Hello tulku the contraversial ! :) Long time no see.

Actually having lived in Asia myself for some years I have noticed that these people do have a healthier attitude to death.

For example one time coming out of the teahouse in Easter India I literally almost stumbeled/bumped over the corpse that was carried to the burning ghat uncovered on some sort of wood and sheet hand crafted carrier by two people in the middle of the city. At first I thought that the lady was ill but realised that she is actually dead.

Noone seemed shocked by the sight of the corpse.

On the beach where they burn people one can see parts of the body like hands and legs etc. that haven managed to burn yet. It is a good reminder of ones own mortality . If the people sight this in Europe it would cause a lot of issues and upheavel.

Have you read Katha Upanishad where little boy Nachiketa was instructed by Death ? It is a good read.

Go work in just about any hospital in America and you will see large numbers of families who purportedly believe in Jesus and the afterlife yet INSIST that 'everything be done' to keep a relative alive via national deficit raising, expensive, torturous, futile surgeries and procedures that may only give them several extra months of life spent in misery.
