By his physical build, the way he takes the punishment and fights, especially, he knocks the opponent down with one punch at 0:58. I think he has the strength of a Shaolin monk. Yes, he is a real monk IMO.

To me this does not look like a Shaolin monk vs. an mma fighter; this looks like two san da fighters, one of whom is a shaolin monk.

That second clip (Brad Riddell v Yi Long) was crazy.

Can you imagine fighting an opponent and just having them lower their hands and let you punch them over and over?

I can, I used to literally have nightmares about it!

As far as i know he's not a real shaolin monk, he's a sanda practioner, well he certainly doesn't act like a monk at times.

Shaolin monks renounce worldly life anyway so what is he doing fighting.

But still where he just took those punches was quite impressive.

Competition fighting is very much a part of modern day Shaolin training. Why? Money and fame. The place has to pay its way. Modern day fame and fortune is gaining in the ring, not by fighting bandits or other feats of olden days past.

You will note that both 'warrior monks' have extensive competition experience.
