In Search of Rennes Le Chateau-


Inside the Gates of Atlantis near Rennes le Chateau France

Inside the areas called the 'Gates of Atlantis' by the French locals. This area is the backdrop for the famous Poussin painting 'The Shepherds of Arcadia'. The mountains are extremely mysterious and some have suggested they are artificial in origin. The ancient Phoenicians referred to giants as the creators of the Pyrenees mountains. The answer is within the stones.

Unknown Megaliths from Rennes le Chateau France

Not many people are aware of the unusual, large, megalithic ruins near Rennes le Chateau, France. The ruins are incredibly large and most are almost completely buried. Where these stones part of the treasure of Abbe Sauniere referred to in Dan Brown's book 'The Da Vinci Code'? I refer to the stones as the Blue Apples.

It is certainly a very interesting, beautiful and atmospheric part of the world which readily lends itself to tales of mystery and imagination.

 

My own view is that the rock formations are natural and the tales associated with the area should be taken with a generous pinch of salt.

 

I should add that I thought the Da Vinci Code was one of the worse films I have ever sat through.
