Now, a team of researchers Yoichi Ochiai, Alexis Oyama and Keisuke Toyoshima from the University of Tokyo have developed the thinnest known transparent display. This innovative technology enables projection of images on soap bubble, but projecting an image onto soap isn't as easy as it may sound. "It is common knowledge that the surface of soap bubble is a micro membrane," lead researcher Yoichi Ochiai said. So the researchers subjected the bubble's membrane to ultrasonic sound waves, played through speakers. Sonic waves break up the surface tension, creating a texture to the bubble that becomes opaque, while reflecting enough light to project a vivid image for viewers.
